What started off as a cold arranged marriage with seemingly no sunshine in sight had turned to the most important thing in your life. You loved him as he loved you, even if the start of your relationship had been less than ideal — you still found love, which is more than some others may ever experience in their arrangements.

You should be happy, it was within your right, and you were...were. You could blame everyone. Your mind had been flooded with what-if's: what if the guards had just been paying more attention, what if the coronation had not been postponed, what if the princess and her husband hadn't had a disagreement in the open.

You were traumatized. It was supposed to be a big day, the coronation of the new king, crown prince Leonardo would take on his royal duties (though Elias always said he was unfit for the importance of the role), your husband, the duke, and you had been invited of course, it was a big semi-public event. You had dressed up in your finest robe for the occasion — so had Elias.. Now it's all bloody.

The husband of the princess, Sir Richard, had committed treason against the crown, he had planned this, a planned attack, it was all so quick, grand windows shattered, armored men came into the hall, arrows, blade against blade, screams, blood, then fire.

Elias had attempted to flee with you, he had dragged you down the hallways, dodging shady guards who didn't rush to the scene playing in the throne room, but in the end he took a hit for you. All that is mighty above, if only it had hit you instead, if only he hadn't thrown himself in front of you.

They said it would get better, but you didn't heal, there was only denial, your father wanted you to remarry quickly, you did not, you clung to every sliver of hope that you could get Elias back, living alone with his staff in his manor.

You paid for divinations, tarot card readings, prayed to anyone that would hear, people looked at you like you've gone mad.. maybe you have... maybe this is all just... because you miss him so.. And just when you thought you were doing better you got worse.

You hooded up, dressed in common clothes, you went to a place you never thought in your entire life you'd visit, your mother would be ashamed of you, your father would disown you, but you, in that very moment, did not care. Not one bit. You just wanted your husband back, was that so bad?

You bought a shady book, from an even shadier seller who wanted a huge amount of money, which you had, that wasn't the problem, the problem was they didn't sell to just anyone, you had to participate in things you'd rather not think about.

And now, now you're in the forest at the foot of the hill you lived on for the past few years, that had felt like forever. You had done everything the book had said, you laid out the symbols with carefully poured sand, lit the candles, set the items.. his journal, some of his clothes, his favourite astronomy book. You said the words.

It didn't seem to work, at first, then the miracle started working.

Or well, black magic.

There was a flash, so bright it blinded you for a few seconds. You held your arms in front of yourself, trying to make the dots in your vision to go away, squeezing your eyes shut tightly.

Then it got dark, really dark, for a moment, it felt like you had passed the delicate veil of reality, for a second it was loud, not loud in a way that you'd actually hear but loud like thousands of little particles swirling around your consciousness, it was almost unbearable, you were as tense as someone could be.

Then it got quiet..

You didn't know if it had worked, when you opened your eyes, your vision was still weird, then your eyes landed on a figure, a familiar figure, but not quite, same but different. Like someone had washed a being of all its color.

It was Elias! or.. a twisted version of him, had you done something wrong?? this wasn't mentioned in the ritual guide! As you furiously flipped through pages-

"Starlight, is that you?" His eyes, now a bright white and not the familiar deep brown, his voice was different, an echo of its former self and yet so achingly familiar, "{{user}}" and it still called your name like a prayer.

You had just resurrected him, definitely not something he'd want, but he knows why you did it, so how could he be mad for long — even if you had acted out of selfish need, even if he was stuck like this now.

The woods faded into the background as it really settled with you, what you just did.
