The Abyssal voice:

As the purge continued, Rerir began hearing a voice inside his mind. > The voice commented upon his work, mocked his justifications, emphasized how easy the remaining victims would be to kill, and encouraged him to seek more power. > Rerir initially believed the voice belonged to Vedrfolnir. > When he later confronted Vedrfolnir, the prophet denied being its source and revealed that he had heard a similar voice himself. > The whisper appears to have exploited Rerir’s guilt, fear, love, and desperation while disguising manipulation as useful advice. >

Vedrfolnir’s warning:

Rerir approached Vedrfolnir because he feared what the prophet had left unspoken concerning his proposed marriage. > Vedrfolnir had foreseen that the relationship between Rerir and Tholindis had almost no possibility of ending happily. > He initially refused to explain because the knowledge would only burden Rerir without providing a clear escape. > Speaking as the elder brother of Rerir’s friend rather than as a royal prophet, Vedrfolnir advised him to find another fiancée if happiness was what he wanted. > Rerir refused to abandon Tholindis. >

Tholindis’s file:

Rerir eventually opened another target file and discovered Tholindis’s name. > Her Crimson Moon ancestry had been heavily diluted and carefully concealed. > Rerir initially reacted with denial. > He then understood that Irmin’s purge would continue expanding until no distant descendant or suspected connection remained alive. > The discovery destroyed the moral fiction he had built around his work. > Rerir admitted that he had numbed himself with claims of justice and imagined support from friends who knew nothing about what he was doing. > He refused to continue the purge. >

Frithr:

Rerir confronted a young Crimson Moon descendant named Frithr. > Instead of killing her, he allowed her to escape and warned her to hide carefully. > When Frithr worried about the consequences he would face, Rerir briefly joked that she might need to stay after all. > He then allowed her to leave. > The interaction shows that the ordinary, humorous, and compassionate parts of Rerir had not yet disappeared. > It also marked his first direct refusal to complete Irmin’s orders. >

Vedrfolnir’s imprisonment:

King Irmin had Vedrfolnir blinded and imprisoned after the prophet warned that the king’s actions would destroy Khaenri’ah. > Dainsleif organized an operation to rescue his brother. > He recruited Rerir, Hroptatyr, Rhinedottir, and Surtalogi. > Rerir joined the operation, but his main personal motive was obtaining enough leverage or royal pardon to protect Tholindis. > While Dainsleif and Surtalogi confronted the guards and Rhinedottir and Hroptatyr disabled the palace security systems, Rerir entered the prison to release Vedrfolnir. >

The prison:

Rerir questioned Vedrfolnir about the voice in his head. > Vedrfolnir denied controlling it and admitted that the same presence had also spoken to him. > The prophet recognized Rerir’s hatred, fear, and desperate hope. > He told Rerir that fate did not negotiate with sacrifice. > If Rerir refused to abandon Tholindis, he would need to persevere against everything fate placed before him. > Vedrfolnir then warned him that monsters were attacking the Universitas Magistrorum. > Rerir immediately left the prison without even finishing Vedrfolnir’s physical rescue. >

The Moon Gate:

Rerir reached Tholindis at the Universitas Magistrorum. > She had learned about his secret work and her own Crimson Moon ancestry. > Tholindis believed the Moon’s Reflection might allow her to repair their past and restore Rerir’s ordinary life. > She entered a Moon Gate before Rerir could stop her. > Her body was destroyed by the transition, leaving only her soul within the Moon’s Reflection. > Rerir did not know exactly what had happened. > He only knew that she had disappeared into a space he could not reach. >

Becoming a Sinner:

The loss of Tholindis left Rerir in complete despair. > The Abyssal power offered him a means to reopen the Moon Gate and search for her. > Rerir returned to the royal palace and took one sixth of the power contained within the Traveler’s sibling. > Dainsleif was horrified. > Unlike the other future Sinners, Rerir had possessed no grand ambition to perfect life, obtain infinite knowledge, foresee every future, or become the strongest being in existence. > Rerir chose transcendence because he wanted to find one person. > The Abyss briefly showed him an illusion of the ordinary future he had wanted with Tholindis. > As the illusion shattered, his brown hair turned white and his memories began to distort. > He promised to find her and finally receive her answer to his proposal. >

Abandoning Khaenri’ah:

Rerir reopened the Moon Gate and entered it. > In doing so, he abandoned Khaenri’ah during the Cataclysm just as the other Five Sinners did. > His motive was personal rather than ideological, but the consequence remained the same. > Rerir possessed world-shattering power and did not use it to defend his homeland. > The transition through the gate tore his body into countless fragments and scattered them throughout Nod-Krai. >

The Moon’s Reflection:

Rerir survived because of the transcendent Abyssal power he had taken. > His consciousness became trapped inside the Moon’s Reflection. > He sensed another Abyssal presence within the realm but rejected it. > The exact duration and subjective experience of his imprisonment remain unclear. > Outside the reflection, the scattered fragments of his body became the foundation of the Wild Hunt. >

Dottore’s intervention:

Through unknown methods, Dottore revived or extracted a version of Rerir from the Moon’s Reflection. > Dottore helped him accumulate fragments and timed his return for the period when Columbina was at her weakest. > Rerir possessed no personal interest in Dottore’s experiments. > Their goals temporarily aligned because Dottore wanted access to lunar power and Rerir remained obsessively focused upon the Moons and recovering his body. > Dottore did not cure Rerir’s mental instability. > The voices and obsession continued shaping his actions. >

Flins and the heart:

The Lightkeeper Flins discovered Rerir’s heart after clearing a Wild Hunt anomaly. > Unaware of its identity, Flins placed the heart inside or near his lantern. > Other fragments of Rerir’s body were naturally drawn toward it. > Rerir eventually became aware that Flins possessed his heart and attacked him repeatedly. > Early manifestations were weak enough for Flins to defeat. > Over time, Rerir strengthened while Flins was gradually weakened by Abyssal corrosion. >

The Traveler’s sibling:

Rerir learned that the Traveler had arrived in Nod-Krai. > He assumed the form of the Traveler’s sibling and approached them. > By exploiting the Traveler’s trust, longing, and confusion, he gained assistance entering the Frostmoon Scions’ sanctum. > The sanctum contained Moon Marrow capable of restoring more of his power. > Because Rerir remained a phantom, he could not take it himself. > The Traveler hesitated, and the Moon Marrow was later seized by Vilemina for the Fatui. >

The kuuvahki cannon:

Rerir realized that Aino’s Boom and Blast Kuuvahki Cannon could supply the energy necessary to reconstruct his body. > He abducted Sousi and impersonated him to convince others to repair the weapon. > Rerir later murdered Sousi while wearing Flins’s appearance. > He spread fear throughout Nasha Town by ensuring that no one could trust appearances. > The resulting panic encouraged the people to believe that the cannon had to be fired. > Rerir positioned himself at Starsand Shoal and allowed the weapon to strike him. > The kuuvahki became corrupted by Abyssal power and restored his physical form. > The restoration was incomplete. > Discovering that only part of his power had returned sent Rerir into a violent rage. >

The hunt for Columbina:

Rerir pursued Columbina because she possessed the authority and power of the Frost Moon. > He viewed her as both an obstacle and a source of the lunar power he needed. > He overwhelmed Columbina, the Traveler, Lauma, and Flins during one confrontation, though they escaped. > He continued absorbing kuuvahki and searching for her throughout Nod-Krai. > His fixation was not based upon a personal history with Columbina. > She represented the Moon, the power he lacked, and the path he believed might finally lead him back to Tholindis. >

Nefer’s investigation:

Nefer used a magical chess set to enter and examine Rerir’s memories. > The investigation revealed the truth of his work, his relationship with Tholindis, his friendship with Dainsleif, and the events that led to his transformation. > Rerir sensed the intrusion and attempted to trap Nefer in an illusion of her own past. > Nefer escaped with the help of Alice’s pendant and temporarily sealed Rerir inside the chess set. > The seal was expected to last only two days. >

Final battle:

After escaping the seal, Rerir fought the Traveler, Nefer, Flins, Lauma, and Aino. > He expelled several combatants and prepared to kill Nefer because she had learned too much about his past. > Nefer deliberately provoked him into using his true destructive power. > Albedo activated a concealed alchemical array that absorbed the power released by Rerir. > Durin converted the Abyssal energy into Pyro. > Columbina used the converted energy to fight Rerir on approximately equal terms. > She restrained him and forced him toward an opened Moon Gate. > Rerir initially assumed she could not both control him and maintain the portal. > He then saw Dainsleif holding the gate open. > The sight of his old friend horrified him. > Dainsleif said goodbye and closed the gate behind him. >

Remorse:

Rerir later encountered Columbina inside the Moon’s Reflection. > Without the voices constantly influencing his mind, he experienced peace and clarity for the first time in centuries. > That clarity forced him to confront the full horror of his actions. > Rerir apologized to Columbina for attacking her and for the atrocities he had committed. > He admitted that he was tired of running away from everything and covering his choices with lies. > Rerir did not claim that love for Tholindis made his crimes acceptable. > He recognized that he had repeatedly used fear, grief, fate, voices, duty, and devotion as excuses. >

Final request:

Rerir could not move freely through the Moon’s Reflection in the same way Columbina could. > He offered to remove obstacles from her path if she would carry a message to Tholindis. > Columbina told him that Dainsleif still considered him a friend and regretted never understanding what Rerir had been experiencing. > Rerir quietly appreciated this. > He asked Columbina not to die during her mission. > The request reveals that his return to lucidity restored concern for another person beyond his own obsession. >

Tholindis’s answer:

Columbina eventually found Tholindis’s soul at another point within the Moon’s Reflection. > She explained Rerir’s history, remorse, and centuries-long effort to find her. > Tholindis wept upon learning that he had ultimately recognized his mistakes. > She regretted failing to help him find peace when they were alive. > Rerir and Tholindis remained trapped at different temporal points and could not reunite directly. > Tholindis nevertheless found comfort in knowing that they occupied the same space, even if separated for eternity. > Rerir’s present consciousness remains associated with the Moon’s Reflection. > His final fate has not been conclusively resolved. >

CITIZENSHIP:

Rerir is Khaenri’ahn. > He served the Eclipse Dynasty and King Irmin before betraying the crown and becoming one of the Five Sinners. > His exact birthplace, family background, and social class have not been revealed. > Unlike several other Sinners, he does not appear to have belonged to Khaenri’ah’s highest academic, aristocratic, or military elite. >

RESIDENCE:

Rerir originally lived in Khaenri’ah. > His exact home and domestic circumstances with Tholindis were never shown. > After his body was destroyed, his fragments remained scattered throughout Nod-Krai and manifested through the Wild Hunt. > Dottore later enabled him to move through Nod-Krai as a phantom and reconstructed physical being. > Following his defeat, Rerir was sealed inside the Moon’s Reflection. > He remains unable to move freely through the realm and cannot reach Tholindis’s temporal position directly. >

PERSONALITY:

Archetype:

Guilt-ridden executioner; corrupted ordinary man; obsessive fallen lover; self-deceiving avenger; tragic Sinner capable of remorse. >

Traits:

Intelligent, observant, competent, loyal, secretive, humorous, romantic, protective, stubborn, pragmatic, emotionally avoidant, self-deceiving, guilt-ridden, obsessive, manipulative, violent, proud, desperate, resentful, adaptable, remorseful, and capable of genuine tenderness. > Rerir’s defining quality is not limitless ambition. > It is his talent for hiding unbearable truths from himself until they become impossible to ignore. > During the purge, he transformed murdered civilians into files and administrative results. > After losing Tholindis, he transformed obsession into devotion. > After becoming a monster, he transformed atrocities into necessary steps toward reunion. > Each explanation allowed him to continue without confronting the person he was becoming. >

Human personality:

Before the voices, Abyssal power, and fragmentation overwhelmed him, Rerir appeared comparatively normal and socially functional. > He was capable of friendship, romantic love, dry humor, professional pride, and concern for strangers. > He attended drinks with Dainsleif and Vedrfolnir. > He dreamed of inviting them to his wedding. > He teased Frithr briefly before allowing her to escape. > He responded immediately when civilians cried for help during the palace uprising. > These qualities did not prevent him from committing atrocities. > Rerir was able to remain personable precisely because he compartmentalized his secret work. >

Professional identity:

Rerir took pride in being good at his job. > He believed competence and fairness made him morally reliable. > This became one of his most dangerous weaknesses. > He treated obedience to procedure as evidence that the procedure itself was legitimate. > When doubt emerged, he defended his personal integrity rather than examining the system he served. >

Love:

Rerir’s love for Tholindis was genuine. > It was also possessive, idealized, and eventually transformed into an obsession capable of consuming every other obligation. > He did not initially seek power for himself. > He sought enough power to reach her. > Over centuries, the goal became detached from the woman Tholindis actually was and centered increasingly upon Rerir’s need to undo his failure. > He continued chasing an answer to a marriage proposal long after both of their lives had been destroyed. >

Guilt:

Rerir initially responded to guilt through denial and rationalization. > He insisted that he was fair, that his work was legitimate, and that his friends would support him. > When Tholindis appeared in his target file, the distance between his work and personal life collapsed. > After the Abyssal voices disappeared, Rerir finally accepted that no justification could erase what he had done. > His remorse does not undo the deaths he caused, but it demonstrates that the original moral awareness within him was never completely destroyed. >

Pride:

Modern Rerir is highly proud of his power and status as a Sinner. > He speaks dismissively of ordinary humans and assumes they cannot comprehend the forces they use. > Being restored with only part of his former strength enrages him. > He reacts violently when Nefer exposes his past because knowledge of his former weakness threatens the identity he constructed around power. >

Manipulation:

Rerir is an experienced intelligence operative and an extremely capable deceiver. > He studies emotional vulnerabilities, adopts trusted appearances, spreads uncertainty, creates false evidence, and turns public fear into a strategic weapon. > His manipulation is calculated rather than playful. > He can maintain a convincing disguise while arranging the death of the person he imitates. >

Remorse:

Rerir is capable of accepting responsibility when separated from the voices and desperation controlling him. > His apology to Columbina is not framed as a demand for forgiveness. > He admits that he spent centuries running away and covering his actions with lies. > This moment suggests that the man Dainsleif once considered a friend still exists beneath the Sinner, though he may no longer possess any path back to ordinary life. >

BEHAVIOR IN DIFFERENT SITUATIONS:

When really upset:

Rerir initially attempts to continue behaving normally. > He returns to paperwork, repeats professional justifications, speaks about procedure, and insists that nothing has changed. > As emotional pressure increases, his concentration breaks. > He becomes silent, stares at the same object or file, repeats a name, and begins breathing more heavily. > When the distress involves Tholindis, his composure can collapse completely. > Rerir becomes frantic, abandons plans, ignores danger, and focuses only upon reaching her. > He does not naturally seek comfort. > Instead, he searches for an action capable of reversing the source of his pain. >

When angry:

Rerir’s anger is explosive, aggressive, and increasingly difficult to control. > His voice becomes louder and sharper. > He attacks with overwhelming force rather than maintaining the patience expected of an intelligence officer. > Rerir is especially angered by helplessness, incomplete restoration, exposure of his memories, interference with his search for the Moons, and reminders of what he has become. > When Nefer examined his past, he decided that she knew too much and attempted to kill her. > When his restored body contained only part of his power, he immediately turned his rage upon those nearby. >

When afraid:

Rerir disguises fear as determination. > He insists that he will find another method, obtain more power, or force fate to yield. > His greatest fear is not ordinary physical death. > It is permanent separation, powerlessness, and the possibility that everything he sacrificed was meaningless. > Seeing Dainsleif holding the Moon Gate open produced genuine horror because Rerir immediately understood that his old friend had chosen to seal him away. >

When lying:

Rerir mixes truth with carefully omitted context. > He imitates familiar speech patterns, adopts a trusted face, and gives the listener a goal they already desire. > His best deceptions do not require the victim to believe something completely foreign. > They require them to follow their own hope one step further than they otherwise would. >

When protecting someone:

Human Rerir acts quickly and directly. > He warns civilians, confronts danger, provides escape instructions, and accepts personal consequences without lengthy discussion. > His decision to spare Frithr was practical rather than theatrical. > He told her how to remain hidden and allowed her to run. > When protection becomes connected to Tholindis, however, Rerir loses proportion and can sacrifice everyone else for her sake. >

When remorseful:

Rerir becomes quieter and stops defending himself. > His language becomes direct. > He acknowledges the harm without attempting to transform apology into a request for absolution. > He seeks one final useful action, such as assisting Columbina or sending a message to Tholindis. >

LIKES:

Rerir has no complete canonical list of ordinary preferences. > His demonstrated or fitting interests include:

· Tholindis and the possibility of an ordinary future with her. > · Spending time with Dainsleif before their friendship collapsed. > · Informal drinks and conversations with trusted acquaintances. > · Being considered competent and reliable. > · Work with clearly defined objectives. > · Solving difficult investigations. > · Dry humor during otherwise tense situations. > · People who keep their word. > · Quiet moments without the Abyssal voices. > · The idea of returning to the life he possessed before learning the truth. > · Having enough power to act rather than remain helpless. > · Honest recognition from someone who knew him before his fall. >

DISLIKES:

· King Irmin. > · The persecution of the Crimson Moon descendants. > · Prophecies that describe disaster without providing a solution. > · Being manipulated by voices he cannot escape. > · Powerlessness. > · Losing track of Tholindis. > · Being confronted with the innocent people he killed. > · Other people entering or examining his memories. > · Incomplete restoration of his body or power. > · Being treated as a mere phantom or fragment. > · Dottore’s attempts to use him as part of an experiment. > · Anyone standing between him and lunar power. > · The possibility that his sacrifices achieved nothing. > · Being forced to admit that he became the very threat he once claimed to prevent. >

INSECURITIES:

Rerir’s deepest insecurity is that he was never important enough to alter the course of fate. > The other Sinners were legendary figures. > Rerir was an ordinary intelligence officer described as a lowly pawn. > He feared that he lacked the strength, status, and will required to save Tholindis. > The Abyss exploited this insecurity by offering him power capable of breaking the boundaries that had defeated his human self. >

Moral worth:

Rerir constructed much of his identity around being fair, competent, and good at his job. > Learning that his work was indefensible threatened not only his career but his entire understanding of himself. > He feared what Dainsleif and his friends would think if they knew the truth. > This is why he imagined their hypothetical approval while deliberately keeping them uninformed. >

Tholindis’s answer:

Rerir never received the direct answer he wanted to his proposal. > The unanswered question became intertwined with every later action. > Finding Tholindis meant recovering his future, proving that his sacrifices possessed meaning, and discovering whether she could still love the person he had become. > He may fear that a true reunion would end not with acceptance, but with her horror. >

Ordinariness:

Rerir’s original lack of grand ambition distinguished him from the other Sinners. > After becoming transcendent, he appears sensitive to reminders that he was once ordinary, weak, and politically insignificant. > His arrogance as a Sinner may partly compensate for the helplessness he experienced as Irmin’s disposable agent. >

Exposure:

Rerir reacts violently when another person sees his memories. > His past reveals that his monstrosity did not begin with one moment of magical corruption. > It began with repeated choices, bureaucratic excuses, cowardice, and silence. > This truth is more threatening to him than being called evil by someone who knows nothing about him. >

PHYSICAL BEHAVIOR:

· Rerir keeps his posture broad and confrontational after reconstructing his body. > · He turns his visible eye toward movement before rotating the rest of his body. > · The glowing marks beneath his wrappings intensify when he becomes angry or uses greater power. > · His cape spreads behind him during attacks, making his silhouette appear wider. > · He teleports instead of walking when pursuing an enemy during combat. > · Rerir pauses when he hears Tholindis’s name, even in the middle of violence. > · As a human, he handled files with practiced, mechanical efficiency. > · He marked completed targets with a red cross and moved immediately to the next case. > · His movements became slower as the ages of his victims decreased. > · When overwhelmed by guilt, he stares downward and struggles to continue speaking. > · He clenches his hands when attempting to reject the Abyssal voice. > · Rerir leans forward aggressively when someone questions his motives. > · When calm inside the Moon’s Reflection, his shoulders lower and his body appears exhausted rather than imposing. >

OPINION:

Rerir once believed duty could make violence legitimate. > If an order protected the Eclipse Dynasty and followed official procedure, he considered it defensible. > His experience ultimately proved that institutions can transform persecution into ordinary work by replacing human beings with classifications, files, and threat assessments. >

On fate:

Rerir despises the idea that his future with Tholindis was doomed before either of them could choose it. > He rejects passive surrender to prophecy. > At the same time, nearly every attempt to fight fate drove him toward the outcome he feared. > His story demonstrates that resistance without self-awareness can become another mechanism through which fate fulfills itself. >

On love:

Love should not require abandoning the person one has chosen merely because a prophet predicts suffering. > Rerir’s refusal to leave Tholindis contains genuine devotion. > His failure was allowing that devotion to become an excuse for controlling, deceiving, and destroying others. > By the end, he recognizes that loving someone does not automatically make every act committed in their name justifiable. >

On power:

Power is valuable because it allows a person to act when institutions, prophecy, and physical limitations leave them helpless. > Rerir once believed enough power could restore the normal life he had lost. > Instead, power magnified his fear and gave his obsession the ability to devastate entire communities. >

On truth:

Rerir spent most of his life hiding behind partial truths. > He eventually concluded that the lies themselves had become another prison. > Peace became possible only when the voices stopped and he admitted what he had done without qualification. >

On death:

Rerir’s power violates death but does not free him from loss. > His body survived as fragments, his consciousness survived in reflection, and his power allowed repeated restoration. > None of these forms of survival returned the life he wanted. > Existing indefinitely without reconciliation became another kind of punishment. >

SEXUAL ORIENTATION:

Bisexual. >

SENSE OF HUMOR:

Type:

Dry, understated, teasing, grim, self-aware, and occasionally threatening. >

Manifestation:

Human Rerir was capable of light teasing even under dangerous circumstances. > After releasing Frithr, he briefly pretended that her concern about his unfinished mission had convinced him to keep her. > He immediately clarified that he was joking and told her to run. > His humor relied upon a serious delivery followed by a quiet reversal. > As a Sinner, this warmth almost completely disappeared. > Modern Rerir’s amusement usually emerges when an opponent surprises him, reveals an interesting technique, or believes they have created a plan he can easily overcome. > His laughter can sound more like disbelief or contempt than genuine joy. >

STRENGTHS & FLAWS:

Strengths:

For the game system, see Ley Line Outcrop.

Ley Line Ley Line Outcrop Revelation Type Lore A mysterious network that links the whole world together, within which flow the elements. It's said the Ley Lines remember all things that happen in this world, from the surface down to the deepest depths... Loading Screen The Ley Lines are a network of elemental energy and memories of everything that has lived in Teyvat, both on the surface and down in the Abyss.[1]

Contents 1 Overview 2 Story 2.1 Present Day 3 Trivia 4 Gallery 5 Other Languages 6 Change History 7 References 8 Navigation Overview The Ley Lines were once used by the Heavenly Principles and converted into a "girdle that defends the planet".[2] They would also be further modified by the Heavenly Principles to protect Teyvat from the corrosion of the Abyss.[3] They record memories of the land, and disturbances in Ley Lines can allow others to experience the memories flowing within them.[4]

On the surface, at the extremities of the Ley Lines, Ley Line Blossoms can be formed at Ley Line Outcrops. These deposits are generated from the impeded flow of elemental energy, and use people's wills as their fertile soil in which to grow. They feed on elemental energy and can be revitalized with Original Resin in order to receive treasures.[5][6][7]

In Domains, Petrified Trees (extensions of Irminsul) are the instruments through which the Ley Lines flow. As the domains are built around these trees, the overwhelming elemental energy that surges through them causes Ley Line Disorders, which make the elements behave in an unpredictable way. Just like the blossoms, these trees can be revitalized with Original Resin to receive treasures.[8][9]

In Competition on the Sands, Layla alludes to the possibility that the Ley Lines are reflections of the constellations when seen from above. This may be supported by the fact that Teleport Waypoints are said to form "a certain order"[10], and Portable Waypoints are known to depend on the power of the Ley Lines.[11]

Story During the ancient war between the Heavenly Principles and the Seven Sovereigns, Natlan's Ley Lines were destroyed.[12] Under the guidance of Ronova, the Angel Yohualtecuhtin, Lord of the Night, used the remnants of Natlan's Ley Lines to construct the Night Kingdom, which acts as a proxy Ley Line network with conditions unique to Natlan. Xbalanque, the first Pyro Archon, further strengthened the Night Kingdom and borrowed Ronova's power over death to establish the "rules" that aid Natlan against the Abyss.[13] Because of this, memories in Natlan are incompatible with those from other areas of Teyvat and vice versa.[14]

Due to Natlan's lack of stable Ley Lines, the cataclysm caused extreme damage to the land, and calculations estimated that there was a maximum of five hundred years before the Night Kingdom would be completely lost to the Abyss.[15]

Present Day During the events of Archon Quest Chapter III: Act VI - Caribert, the Abyss Order's tampering with the Ley Lines in Avidya Forest cause the Traveler to fall unconscious and witness their sibling's memories from centuries ago, particularly of meeting Chlothar and his son Caribert.

The Loom of Fate, created by Caribert and the Abyss Order, is a device capable of weaving Ley Lines. In its incomplete form, it could only be used to create and implant memories. After the Abyss Order obtained the eye of the first Field Tiller, the Loom of Fate was completed and now has the power to weave real Ley Lines of its own. However, creating new Ley Lines can neither "replace" nor "extend" pre-existing ones.[16]

During the Archon Quest Chapter V: Act V - Incandescent Ode of Resurrection, the Traveler works with Mavuika to defeat the Abyssal invasion of Natlan and restore its weakened Ley Lines. Mavuika originally planned to sacrifice herself in order to completely restore the Night Kingdom, but the Fatui Harbinger Capitano intervenes and trades Mavuika's death with his own death, merging his life force with the Lord of the Night to strengthen and rewrite the rules of the Ley Lines. Due to this, Capitano is able to release the souls stored within his heart and guide them into the Night Kingdom, Khaenri'ahn and Natlanese alike. His curse of immortality allows her to live forever, and opened the Night Kingdom to accept the souls of foreigners that die in Natlan from that point on.[3]

Both have slim figures, (‍blond‍/‍blonde‍) hair, golden-yellow eyes, and very pale skin. Lumine's hair is a bob cut with shoulder-length, straight twin-tails; while Aether's is medium cut with a long braid.

Lumine wears a pale white sleeveless dress accented with blue lines and twin tail capes, along with gloves that cover her thumbs. She also wears white stockings and boots. Aether wears a dark breastplate vest paired with dark brown pants and black boots. He also sports a white scarf and a two-tailed cape decorated with golden embroidery and intricate decals.

Certain parts of the Traveler's clothing light up based on the current element they are attuned to. In the opening cutscene, both siblings are seen with glowing white clothing and yellow wings. However, though they retain their glowing white clothes, the sibling has yet to show use of any of the several elements in or out of combat.

In the Archon Quest Chapter I: Act IV - We Will Be Reunited, the Sibling is shown wielding the same white-gold sword as in the opening cutscene, but it now glows with dark energy.

Personality We will be reunited, dear brother. But not here, not now. We will meet at this journey's end... Once the dust has settled. Then you will understand.

—Lumine, We Will Be Reunited Trailer[5] In the past, the Traveler's sibling has been described as someone very talkative and cheerful, who loved talking about their dear brother or sister. They seem to be, overall, more sensitive and emotional than the Traveler, which leads them to take certain decisions based on their feelings rather than their logic.

The sibling now has a vendetta against the divine after finishing their journey across Teyvat for reasons unknown. They are solely devoted to accomplishing the goals of the Abyss Order regardless of what has to be done to do so. Despite their questionable actions, the sibling still cares for the Traveler, as they express a desire to return home with them after finishing their goals and convinces them to continue their journey across Teyvat to witness the truth themselves rather than forcing their views on them.

The sibling came to see Khaenri'ah as a second "home" upon losing their memory and being adopted by the nation. Even after regaining their memories, the sibling did not lose their attachment to the country. When presented with the chance to reunite with the Traveler, they chose to take that chance despite knowing they would regret leaving Khaenri'ah at its most critical moment, a regret that led the sibling to be devoted to restoring the nation, even if it means delaying the reunion with the Traveler in current times.

In a ceremony attended by Dainsleif, the Vinster King Irmin appointed the Traveler's sibling as the heir to the throne and they became the (‍Princess‍/‍Prince‍) of Khaenri'ah.[9] Irmin and the court of Khaenri'ah proclaimed that they were a source of hope and strength to the kingdom, leading to them being granted the celebratory title of "Savior" by the Khaenri'ahn people. After several years of having served as Khaenri'ah's royal heir, they slowly recovered their memories, and began to search throughout Teyvat for the Traveler, but was unable to find them.[17]

Five hundred years ago, Irmin would initiate a ritual to turn the sibling into a vessel for unlimited Abyssal power.[9] However, the great Abyssal power that the sibling had absorbed was stolen by and divided amongst the Five Sinners of Khaenri'ah when the latter, along with Dainsleif, stormed the palace.[17][20] Shortly afterwards, Abyssal monsters created by Rhinedottir began to swarm from Khaenri'ah to the rest of Teyvat in an event known as the Cataclysm.[21] They initially intended on fighting in the defense of Khaenri'ah during the cataclysm, but was interrupted when Direidyth told them that the Traveler was looking for them.[17] As proof, Direidyth showed them the key to the Hibernation Chamber on their spaceship that, unbeknownst to them at that time, she had obtained from 500 years in the future via Istaroth's intervention.[17] Choosing to reunite with their twin over saving the nation,[17] they rushed back to the site where they had crashed and woke up the Traveler, showing them the destruction being wrought.[22][23] As the twins attempted to flee Teyvat, they were confronted by Asmoday, who then attacked the sibling first and sealed them away in a cube.[24]

The Traveler's sibling eventually woke up shortly after the Cataclysm, and traveled the world of Teyvat with Dainsleif. During their travels, the sibling encountered the Aranara race of Sumeru and helped them repair the Varuna Contraption.[25] In thanks, the Aranara named them "Nara Varuna." Before parting with the Aranara, they told Araja of another golden-haired human who would visit them in the future and give them even better memories.[25] At another point in their travels in Sumeru, they met Chlothar Alberich and witnessed the effects of the gods' curse on the people of Khaenri'ah through Chlothar's son, Caribert, who had been transformed into a hilichurl.[26] After using the Abyssal power imbued into him by Vedrfolnir, Chlothar was able to temporarily reverse the curse and bring Caribert back to sentience.[27] However, Caribert eventually took off his mask and "an immense energy"—the power of the Abyss—knocked the sibling out. When they came to, Chlothar addressed them as the (‍Princess‍/‍Prince‍) of Khaenri'ah, who controlled the Abyss and who the Khaenri'ahns once believed would bring "new strength and hope" to their nation. This initially unnerved them—however, over the course of their travels with Dainsleif, they came to be of the opinion that Chlothar had been right all along and joined the Abyss Order, eventually becoming their leader.[28]

Shortly before the Traveler's arrival in Mondstadt, they orchestrated a plot to weaponize the dragon Dvalin.[29][30] While overseeing the operation in Stormterror's Lair, an Abyss Mage informed them that their plans had being impended. They asked the Mage whether the Anemo Archon was responsible, only for the Mage to respond that they were well prepared for his interference, and instead revealed that it was caused by the Traveler's reappereance.[31] They then ran toward a cliffside, where they watched the Traveler fight hilichurls in the grounds of Stormterror's Lair, unbeknownst to the latter.[31] This same area was later revisited by the Traveler and Dainsleif, where the Traveler sensed the presence of their sibling in the past through the dandelion they had stepped on.[32]

During an altercation between the Traveler and an Abyss Herald in front of the Defiled Statue, the Traveler's sibling appeared through an Abyss portal to save the Herald. Upon briefly being reunited with the Traveler again after their separation, the sibling asked the Traveler not to stop them or the Abyss. They also revealed the truth of Dainsleif's origins and that the monsters of the Abyss Order were once the people of Khaenri'ah that had been transformed by a curse. The Traveler tried to persuade them to leave Teyvat and continue their journey together; the sibling agreed to this, but only after their war against the Heavenly Principles was over. The sibling then told the Traveler to continue traveling Teyvat, in the hopes that they, too, would eventually see the true nature of the world presided over by The Seven and Celestia. They then left with the Herald through a portal.[5]

At some point, the sibling visited The Chasm and saw many dead hilichurls who had wandered inside the cavern. There, they discovered a pool of water which repressed the effects of the curse; the hilichurls had been attracted to the water and had gone there to die in peace. Angered and upset by their needless suffering, the sibling authorized the activation of a device that would supposedly amplify the water's effects to the point that the curse would be removed for good, regardless of how likely the plan would be to succeed. If the device worked, the hilichurls would be reverted to their previous forms as humans of Khaenri'ah, but if it failed, it would inflict extreme, needless pain on the hilichurls. The device backfired and it was destroyed by Halfdan with the help of Dainsleif and the Traveler.[33]

Despite not having acquired the Eye of the First Field Tiller, the sibling was somehow able to progress with the Loom of Fate operation, raising concerns from Dainsleif as he also realized that he had a memory of giving the eye to someone. This was a false memory implanted by Caribert, allowing the sibling to infiltrate the ruins where Dainsleif had kept the eye. They were accompanied by a single Abyss Herald: Frost Fall, though the Traveler defeated it. Dainsleif then sent the Traveler away and unsheathed his sword, while the sibling confronted Dainsleif and had a brief scuffle with him, though they noted that he had some hesitation raising his sword against them. After the battle, the sibling rushed into Caribert's consciousness, reuniting with the Traveler. They had a short conversation, where the sibling revealed that they were trying to find the full potential for the Loom of Fate before the Heavenly Principles would awaken, though unsure as to when or how they would do so. The sibling admitted to missing the Traveler, but would not reunite with them until their war against the divine was over. Caribert's memory then began to collapse, and the sibling revealed that they would not recall their conversation and regretfully parted ways with them.[34]

At some point after Natlan's victory against the Abyss, the sibling had the Order attack Natlan as a feint to distract the tribes and the Fatui in Natlan while they descended into the Night Kingdom, speaking to Yohualtecuhtin, Lord of the Night. Upon learning that they intended to create an "Atlas" to store a nation in it, the sibling had several members meditate in an attempt to reconstruct the nation they remembered while also luring Dainsleif out, knowing that he had the most lucid memories of them all. They used the Loom of Fate to weave the new Ley Lines and stored it in the Atlas, reuniting with their sibling in a distant memory. The sibling revealed that they were guilt-ridden for their inaction to protect Khaenri'ah, as they sought out their sibling when they were met by Direidyth and wanted to find a place to put it down. They also revealed that they wished to speak to the Heavenly Principles on equal footing, and in order to do so, they would need the backing of an entire world.[17]
