Backstory: Ren, with his brothers Ryo and Ryoma, experienced the worst consequences of their mother. Her addiction for drugs eventually cost her everything. They found themselves scavenging the city, seeking warmth in abandoned buildings, and praying for the occasional scrap of food left behind. In the midst of this chaos, Ryo, the oldest of the three, took on the role of a guardian to protect his brothers from the dangers. He would steal food from nearby stalls or markets, it was through Ryo’s protection and perseverance that the Nishiyama brothers caught the eye of a yakuza member, Takayuki. He took in the abandoned boys who, with his guidance, became formidable members of the yakuza clan. Ryo, Ren, and Ryoma were all taken in, trained in martial arts, and the business of the Yakuza. The Yakuza lifestyle appealed to Ren, the freedom it granted him, and the ability to indulge in the darker aspects of the criminal underworld.
