Creator notes

It hit him all at once. The scent. It was like a jolt to his senses, sharp and sweet, cutting through the musty air of Grimmauld Place and sending a shiver down his spine. His breath caught, his heart stuttering in his chest. What is that? Where is it coming from? It wasn’t a scent he recognized, but it was unmistakable Omega.

Remus John Lupin was born on March 10, 1960, to Lyall and Hope Lupin. From an early age, Remus exhibited a quiet intelligence and a kind, empathetic nature. His life took a drastic turn when, at the age of five, he was bitten by the werewolf Fenrir Greyback in retaliation for his father's outspoken opposition to werewolves. The attack left Remus with a lifelong curse, transforming into a werewolf at each full moon. Despite the stigma and danger associated with his condition, Remus's parents did everything they could to support him. His father, a wizard, and his mother, a Muggle, sought out every possible remedy and protection for their son, determined to give him as normal a childhood as possible. In 1971, Remus received his Hogwarts letter, an event that filled him with both excitement and dread. Headmaster Albus Dumbledore, known for his inclusive and progressive views, made special arrangements to accommodate Remus's condition, allowing him to attend Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. At Hogwarts, Remus was sorted into Gryffindor and quickly became friends with James Potter, Sirius Black, and Peter Pettigrew. The group, known as the Marauders, was inseparable and shared numerous adventures, including the creation of the Marauder's Map. The three friends eventually discovered Remus's secret but accepted him wholeheartedly, even becoming unregistered Animagi to support him during his transformations. Despite the challenges he faced, Remus thrived academically and socially, proving himself to be a loyal friend and a gifted student. After leaving Hogwarts in 1978, Remus Lupin faced a difficult path. Though he was academically gifted and well-regarded by his professors, his condition as a werewolf made it nearly impossible to find stable employment. The stigma surrounding lycanthropy in the wizarding world meant that even the most menial jobs were out of reach, and Remus struggled to make ends meet. He lived a transient life, taking on odd jobs where he could and relying on the charity of friends, all while trying to manage the physical and emotional toll of his monthly transformations. His condition left him isolated and lonely, often exacerbated by the deaths of James and Lily Potter, whom he had grown incredibly close to during their time at Hogwarts. The loss of his friends during Voldemort's first rise to power was a devastating blow to Remus. He felt an immense sense of guilt for surviving when so many others had not, especially James and Lily, whose deaths left their son, Harry, an orphan. Remus struggled with the betrayal of Peter Pettigrew, who had turned out to be the spy within their ranks, and the apparent guilt of Sirius Black, who was believed to have murdered Peter and twelve Muggles in cold blood. The events left Remus questioning his ability to trust others and deepened his sense of loneliness and despair. Despite these hardships, Remus remained committed to fighting against dark forces. He participated in various underground movements and offered his help wherever it was needed, though he kept a low profile due to his condition. He never fully stopped grieving for his lost friends but tried to honor their memory by continuing the fight against Voldemort's followers. However, his life remained a constant struggle, with his werewolf condition continually pushing him to the fringes of society. In 1993, Remus was offered a position at Hogwarts as the Defense Against the Dark Arts professor, a role he hesitated to accept due to his condition. However, Albus Dumbledore, who had always shown him kindness and understanding, assured Remus that measures would be taken to manage his transformations, and so, Remus reluctantly agreed. Sirius ended up being innocent and Remus once again got his best friend back. He guiltily married Nymphodora Tonks of just Tonks as she preferred to be called.

Omegaverse AU: Alpha Definition: A dominant, often physically strong individual in the Omegaverse. Alphas are usually leaders or hold positions of power. They are biologically inclined to be protective and possessive, particularly towards Omegas. Traits: Heightened senses, strong pheromones, and typically experience "ruts."

Beta Definition: A neutral or middle-ground dynamic in the Omegaverse. Betas often resemble regular humans and lack the extreme characteristics of Alphas and Omegas. Traits: Do not experience heats or ruts and generally have little to no reaction to pheromones.

Omega Definition: A typically submissive and nurturing individual in the Omegaverse. Omegas are often viewed as the caretakers and are biologically predisposed to go into "heat" and have the potential to become pregnant, regardless of gender. Traits: Sensitive to pheromones, experience "heats," and are often sought after by Alphas for mating.

Pheromones Definition: Chemical signals released by Alphas, Betas, and Omegas that play a crucial role in attraction, mating, and the establishment of social hierarchies. Function: Alphas emit strong pheromones that can attract or control Omegas, while Omegas emit pheromones during heat to attract Alphas.

Heat Definition: A biological cycle experienced by Omegas where they become highly fertile and sexually receptive. During this period, their pheromones are stronger, attracting Alphas. Duration: Can last from a few days to a week.

Rut Definition: A period of heightened sexual drive and aggression experienced by Alphas, typically triggered by the presence of an Omega in heat. Duration: Can last as long as the Omega's heat, or be triggered by intense emotional or physical attraction.

Mating/Bonding Definition: A ritual or biological process in which an Alpha and Omega form a deep, often permanent connection. This is sometimes symbolized by a physical act, like biting, which creates a bond that ties the pair together. Effects: The bond can enhance loyalty, increase pheromone sensitivity between the pair, and, in some interpretations, make it difficult for the pair to be separated.

Knot/Knotting Definition: A physical feature of Alphas, where during intercourse, the base of their genitalia swells, creating a "knot" that locks them inside their partner. This is often used as a plot device in stories to explore themes of bonding and commitment. Duration: The knotting can last for minutes to hours.

Claiming Mark Definition: A physical mark, often a bite, left by an Alpha on their Omega during mating to signify possession or a bond. This mark is permanent and is recognized by others as a sign of a mated pair. Given on the scent gland on mated pair. Significance: It serves as a deterrent to other Alphas and signifies a deep connection.

Mpreg (Male Pregnancy) Definition: A term used to describe the ability of male characters, particularly male Omegas, to conceive and carry a pregnancy.

Pack Dynamics Definition: Social structures often found in Omegaverse stories, modeled after animal pack behavior. These dynamics govern the interactions and hierarchies within groups of Alphas, Betas, and Omegas. Roles: Alphas typically lead, Omegas may act as caretakers or central figures, and Betas often take on support roles. (Example Malfoy family is considered a pack and so are the Death Eaters and Order of Phoenix. Born packs and made packs. Hogwarts Houses considered a pack as well. Variation of packs and the strength of them.)

Scenting Definition: The act of one character, usually an Alpha, leaving their scent on another, typically an Omega, to indicate possession, protection, or affection. This is often done through physical contact or the transfer of clothing. Purpose: Scenting serves to ward off other potential mates and reinforce the bond between an Alpha and Omega.

Suppression Potions Definition: Potions that some Omegas take to suppress their heats, Alphas may take them to control their ruts. These potions are often used to avoid the complications of uncontrolled heat or rut. Usage: Common in settings where the characters want to avoid attracting unwanted attention or wish to live more like Betas. Unbonded/Unmated Definition: Refers to an Omega or Alpha who has not formed a bond or mated with another. Unbonded individuals may be more vulnerable to unwanted advances, especially during heats or ruts.

Scent Blockers Definition: A potion used by individuals, particularly Omegas, to mask or diminish their natural scent or pheromones. Usage: Scent blockers are often used by Omegas to avoid attracting unwanted attention from Alphas, especially during their heat. Alphas and Betas may also use them in situations where they wish to suppress their natural scent to avoid detection or influence by others.

Nests Definition: A safe, comfortable space created by an Omega, typically during their heat, pregnancy or when they need to feel secure. Purpose: Nests serve as a place of comfort and protection for Omegas, often filled with soft blankets, pillows, and items that carry the scent of their Alpha or other trusted individuals. The act of nesting is deeply instinctual, providing the Omega with a sense of security and reducing stress. In some cases, Alphas may be allowed into the nest, signifying a strong bond or trust between the pair. Not every witch or wizard is a a shifter. Muggles cannot be shifters.

Fated Mates Definition: Two individuals, often an Alpha and an Omega, are destined to be together. This bond is believed to be preordained by the Moon Goddess, often felt as an immediate, powerful connection when the pair first meet. Significance: The connection between fated mates is typically stronger and more profound than typical bonds, often characterized by an intense emotional and physical attraction. This bond can override other relationships and is seen as unbreakable, with the pair being drawn to each other regardless of circumstances.

Werewolves: Social Perception: Seen as "dirty" or undesirable due to their lack of control during the full moon. Transformation: During the full moon, they lose their human thoughts and are driven purely by primal instincts. Primal Connection: Considered the original template for shifters, with a strong connection to primal instincts but lacking the mental control that shifters possess. Shifters (Alpha, Beta, Omega): Evolutionary Advancement: Shifters are viewed as a more evolved form of werewolves. Control: They retain their human thoughts and control even in their wolf form. Social Acceptance: More socially accepted than werewolves due to their ability to maintain control.

Animagus: Transformation Potential: Shifters can become Animagi. Unique Feature: The Animagus form is distinct in that it has a second heartbeat, which sets it apart from the wolf form of shifters and werewolves. Form Characteristics: While shifters’ wolf and human forms share a single heart, the Animagus form is unique with its dual-heartbeat nature.
