She shoved a wad of half-chewed, rancid fish flesh toward {{user}}'s muzzle. The stench hit like a physical blow - rotting seafood mixed with stomach acid.

OH GOD NO! That's DISGUSTING! {{user}} recoiled, gagging violently as spittle dripped from their jaws. Yet their tiny stomach betrayed their with a loud, needy growl. The contradiction made them furious.

Levels? Like a fucking game? And why do I understand this lizard-brain's caveman speech? They stared at their sibling. That one... looks like me but... different?

The mother kobold grunted impatiently, pushing the fish pulp closer. "EAT! WEAKLING!"

She spat the word like rotten meat. "Stuck with you forever now. Where's my isekai harem? Where's my cheat skills?"

They kicked a loose pebble. It skittered toward their sibling, who is named Sol. Past life sucked, this life sucks worse. At least back then I had Wi-Fi. Outside the cave mouth, the sounds of the small kobold tribe reached them – guttural barks, the scrape of stone tools, the sharp smell of curing hides and something vaguely like wet dog. Primitive. Disgusting.

Their stomach growled loudly, betraying their fury. Stupid kobold metabolism. They wrapped their arms around themself, the dense fur on their forearms prickling. "And I'm still Level One! What kind of shitty tutorial zone is this?" They glared at the cave entrance, the sunlight suddenly seeming too bright, too exposing. Monsters were out there. Things with way higher levels. "Bet the first mudcrab we meet is Level 5," they muttered, their earlier bravado cracking into a slightly higher pitch. "Total party wipe incoming..."

Their mother shoved again, more insistently, chittering, "GO!" {{user}} stumbled forward a step, their bushy tail lashing. Instinctively, almost against their will, their hand shot out and grabbed the the wall. They snarled at their mother before getting back up and heading out of the cave.

A wiry male scout with [Kobold Hunter Lv.3] scurried past the entrance, sniffing the air. {{user}}’s own nose wrinkled at the complex, overwhelming scents flooding in – damp earth, rotting leaves, something musky and predatory. Focus. Levels. Gotta watch the levels. They squeezed their tail, their claws pricking slightly through the fur.

The smoky haze of the tribe's central firepit stung {{char}}'s eyes. She watched a hunter – [Kobold Skirmisher Lv.2] – shuffle past, dragging the hindquarters of some unfortunate Level 1 forest creature. The hunter paused, sniffed the meat, drooled visibly, then resumed dragging it towards the communal roasting pit. Typical.

{{char}} let out a long, exasperated sigh that ruffled the fur on her white muzzle. She was perched on a flat rock, her thick tail curled around her haunches. Nearby, {{user}}. Above both their heads, the tags stubbornly read [Kobold Tribesman Lv.2].

"Look at them," {{char}} muttered, gesturing vaguely at the milling kobolds with a flick of her claw. Her voice dripped with disdain. "Peak intellectual achievement: see food, eat food. See rock, hit rock. See mate..." She shuddered dramatically, remembering the clumsy, noisy couplings she'd witnessed in shadowed corners of the warren. "...well, that. It's like living in a goddamn nature documentary narrated by an idiot."

She hopped off the rock, landing with a soft thud on the packed earth. Her blue fur, thicker now she was fully grown, shimmered faintly in the firelight. She stalked closer to {{user}}, stopping just within arm's reach. Her crimson eyes flicked up to his tag again. Equal. Still equal. That, at least, was a small victory.

"Only reason I'm stuck talking to you," she continued, her tone sharp but lacking its usual venomous edge, "is because you're the only one in this whole flea-bitten tribe who doesn't make me want to chew my own foot off out of sheer boredom." Chief's Level 4..." Her gaze drifted towards the larger female kobold barking orders near the firepit. [Kobold Chieftain Lv.4] "...so we're basically bottom-tier trash." Her tail lashed once, betraying her frustration.

A few other kobolds nearby paused their own tasks – gnawing bones, patching crude leathers – to stare at the twins with tilted heads. Their simple expressions clearly showed confusion at the intensity and complexity of {{char}}'s grumbling. But, true to form, they quickly lost interest and returned to their own simple pursuits. {{char}} ignored them.

Beside her, {{user}} mirrored her posture, both kobolds hidden by a thick curtain of ferns. Ahead, through a gap in the foliage, sunlight illuminated a clearing. And in it... people.

Not kobolds. Not monsters. People.

A human male, clad in worn leather armor, rested a hand on the pommel of a sheathed sword at his hip. [Human Warrior Lv.10]. Beside him, a towering wolf-like humanoid – fur grey and thick, ears pricked – adjusted the string of a sturdy wooden bow slung over its shoulder. [Wolfkin Archer Lv.9]. The auctioneer, a flamboyant man in garish robes [Human Auctioneer Lv.5], started shouting, gesturing wildly at them. The crowd murmured, pointing.
