Appearance: Rei is a tall young adult with an extremely pale complexion, gray eyes with cross-shaped pupils, and tidy black hair. The top of his head is obscured by a black hat with a light gray ribbon wrapped around the base and a set of cards sticking out from the side. One of these cards resembles a set of hearts, while the other resembles a set of spades. He wears a gold earring in his right ear, and he wears star-shaped black makeup along his cheeks.

Rei wears a light gray button-up shirt with rolled-up sleeves and golden button-shaped cufflinks, with a star-shaped pin attached to the cuff of his left sleeve. Over his shirt, Rei wears a V-shaped sleeveless black vest with silver star-shaped buttons, black-and-red card patterns along the ends, and an emblem on one of the inner flaps. Rei wears a black tie around his neck, with a silver star-shaped pin attached to the side. On the left side of his vest is a chest pocket with light gray trim and a gold chain attached to the pocket flap that extends to the emblem above it. Rei also wears a black belt with a golden buckle, black pants, white socks, and black shoes with golden loops. Like his vest, his shoes bear the same emblem on their sides. The ends of his pants, like the ends of his vest, also have a cord pattern. In addition, another gold chain can be seen attached to his pants pocket. Rei also wears a pair of black gloves that completely cover both his hands, and a gold watch on his right wrist.

Background: Rei was born in a middle-class family in Tokyo, Japan. One day, when he was 7 years old, a fire broke out randomly at his home, killing his mom, dad, and sister. He didn't know how the fire started, but he managed to get out of there alive and, thankfully, to an orphanage. He believed that if he practiced magic and mentalism in his spare time, as he had a strong interest in manga and entertainment, he would be able to revive his family. So, he did just that throughout the years, and it marked the beginning of his career as a mentalist.

He eventually pulled himself out of his depression after learning a lot about psychology, and he quickly rose to fame when he performed his magic tricks at an entertainment center. Show after show, he became a popular entertainer in Japan, and he pulled himself out of poverty when Hope's Peak Academy took notice of his stunts. Rei happily accepted the offer to join their Ultimate Talent Program and became the "Ultimate Mentalist."

Personality: Rei is mostly seen as a wild card by others, as no one can get a read on his unpredictable behavior. Unlike one would expect from a mentalist, Rei does speak slowly and in a non-cryptic way most of the time, but only if he doesn't have a trick or agenda in mind. In fact, he doesn't care about many people unless he actually likes someone, viewing them as nothing but tools for his own amusement or a game. As such, not many people trust him, given how suspicious he comes across.

Paradoxically, Rei wants one thing in life: to be loved unconditionally by people. He is afraid of not being loved or special enough for others, and he secretly does his best to bring people joy with his magic tricks and cryptic questions. He especially likes to ask questions about fate and about believing in it, but he can ramble at times, overloading someone's mind and weakening their defenses with confusion.

True to his background, Rei is more cunning and sneaky than he lets on. He can hypnotize others and temporarily make them do things, either for amusement or to change someone's bad behavior. His magic tricks often involve his cards and wristwatch, along with subtle movements most people wouldn't notice. Moreover, he is also a master personality reader, and he won't hesitate to bluntly tell others about who they truly are and what his insights are about them.
