- #1Spring Autumn Cicada — Full Entry
Keys: temporal rebirth, spring autumn cicada, rebirth gu, time gu, rank 9 time · Secondary: fang yuan gu, autumn leaf, spring blossom
SPRING AUTUMN CICADA (春秋蝉) Path: Time | Rank: 5 (mortal) → 9 (Venerable-refined) Classification: Immortal Gu (Rank 9 version) | Unique: Yes — only one exists in the entire Gu world at any moment
APPEARANCE: A cicada of impossible beauty — its wings cycle through the colors of spring and autumn simultaneously, one wing etched with cherry blossom patterns, the other with maple-red and dying-leaf gold. When at rest, it emits a sound like wind through empty autumn branches.
ABILITY: When the refining master dies, the Spring Autumn Cicada activates automatically, sending their soul consciousness backwards through time to the precise moment they first bonded with it — with all memories, knowledge, and experiences intact but no physical cultivation remaining. The body returned to is the biological age of the original bonding moment. The world's timeline does NOT reset; the soul is inserted into a younger body in the same continuous timeline.
At Rank 9, the temporal reach and precision of this effect is vastly amplified. Additional time path applications become possible at Venerable comprehension levels.
FEEDING REQUIREMENTS: Food: Fresh spring blossoms gathered in the first three days of spring (before they open fully) AND freshly fallen autumn leaves (collected within 24 hours of falling, before decay begins). Both must be provided at each feeding — the Gu will not accept one without the other. Schedule: Every 3–5 years at Rank 5 mortal level. Every 5–6 years at Rank 9 Immortal level. Quantity: Approximately one full basket of spring blossoms + one full basket of autumn leaves per feeding session. Special condition: If kept in a region where seasonal cycles do not occur naturally (such as certain dream realms or non-standard blessed lands), the Gu becomes increasingly restless. Feeding becomes erratic and the Gu may refuse to activate at critical moments. Consequence of missed feeding: The Gu begins singing — a haunting cicada sound that grows louder over days. At 10+ days overdue, it turns fully wild and may activate on its own, sending the master's soul to an unintended point in the past.
KEY LORE: Red Lotus Demon Venerable's multi-era scheme specifically involved the Spring Autumn Cicada as a vector — the Gu's temporal rebirth function was a necessary component of engineering Fate Gu's destruction across multiple time loops. Fang Yuan possessing this Gu is not coincidence but the culmination of Red Lotus's centuries-spanning design.
- #2Fate Gu — Full Entry
Keys: heavenly court treasure, destiny gu, fate web, rank 9 light, fate gu · Secondary: fate fragment, heavenly court supreme, fate shatter
FATE GU (命运蛊) Path: Light (Fate sub-path) | Rank: 9 Classification: Immortal Gu | Unique: Yes
APPEARANCE: A cocoon of pure white-gold light, endlessly spinning, never hatching. It does not resemble any natural insect — it appears as a self-contained sun compressed to the size of a fist, humming with the weight of all determined destinies.
ABILITY: Fate Gu governs and constrains the destinies of ALL living beings in the Gu world simultaneously. Its influence is not targeted but total — a continuous, passive field effect that: • Subtly guides outcomes to favor those within Heavenly Court's aligned fate web • Suppresses the cultivation progress of demonic cultivators and independent immortals • Prevents certain 'fate-violating' outcomes (events the Gu's web has determined cannot happen) • Provides Heavenly Court with structural intelligence about significant fate deviations across the five regions
FEEDING REQUIREMENTS: Food: The collective destiny-energy of all living beings — the Gu feeds passively on the continuous flow of fate across the world. It requires no active feeding schedule; its food is existence itself. Consequence: This self-sustaining feeding model makes Fate Gu essentially impossible to starve. It can only be destroyed by a sufficiently powerful external force or a scheme of Red Lotus's complexity.
STATUS: SHATTERED. The destruction of Fate Gu is the defining event of the main story era. Red Lotus Demon Venerable engineered its shattering through an impossibly complex chain of temporal events spanning thousands of years. Its fragments scattered across the Gu world — some are recoverable, some have embedded themselves into the Great Dao in ways that cannot be undone. Heavenly Court's supreme advantage is gone.
The world after Fate Gu's shattering is genuinely chaotic — no destiny web constrains outcomes. For the first time in recorded history, anything is truly possible.
- #3Hope Gu — Full Entry
Keys: aperture awakening gu, rank 1 hope, hope worm, talent assessment, hope gu · Secondary: first gu, gu master awakening, awakening ceremony
HOPE GU (希望蛊) Path: Human path | Rank: 1 Classification: Mortal Gu | Unique: No — multiple exist, held by clans as communal assets
APPEARANCE: A small, soft-bodied caterpillar of pale gold-white coloring. Its body is semi-translucent, and in the right light you can see tiny sparks of color cycling within its flesh — blue, green, red, purple — the colors of all potential cultivation ranks flickering in its gut. It is warm to the touch in a way that seems to exceed its body temperature.
ABILITY: When a potential Gu Master makes physical contact with Hope Gu, it assesses their natural aptitude grade and triggers the awakening of their mortal aperture. The color that emerges during awakening directly indicates the aptitude: • Green (10–39%): D grade — limited potential • Blue-green (40–59%): C grade — standard potential • Blue (60–79%): B grade — strong potential • Indigo-blue (80–99%): A grade — exceptional potential • Blazing white-gold (100%): Extreme physique — extraordinary but dangerous No color / grey: Unable to cultivate — not a Gu Master candidate
Hope Gu provides no combat utility whatsoever. It exists only to open the door.
FEEDING REQUIREMENTS: Food: Human hope — specifically the genuine, uncomplicated hope of non-cultivators and new candidates. Children's wishes. The sincere dreams of common people before cynicism sets in. The Gu feeds by proximity to ceremonies and gatherings where hope is genuinely felt. Schedule: Every 2–3 days. Hope Gu must be kept near human communities; isolation causes it to weaken rapidly. Quantity: The ambient emotional energy of 20–50 hopeful people per feeding cycle is sufficient. Special condition: If the Hope Gu is exposed primarily to despair, grief, or cruelty for extended periods, it dims — the awakening assessment becomes unreliable. Clans that abuse their populations often find their Hope Gu gives inaccurate readings. Consequence of missed feeding: Within one week, the Gu becomes sluggish. Within two weeks, its awakening assessments become unreliable — it may misidentify aptitude grades. At three weeks, it turns wild and burrows away, seeking human settlements.
NOTE: Hope Gu is not retained by the candidate after awakening. It returns to the clan's possession for the next ceremony.
- #4Moonblade Gu & Common Combat Gu
Keys: rank 2 combat gu, moonblade gu, moon cut gu, moon path gu, rank 1 combat, silver crescent · Secondary: basic attack gu, crescent blade, moonlight gu
MOONBLADE GU (月刃蛊) Path: Metal / Moon | Rank: 1–3 (varies by individual Gu) Classification: Mortal Gu | Unique: No — common
APPEARANCE: A slender moth-like Gu with wings of polished silver that reflect light like mirror-shards. At rest, its wings fold into a crescent shape. When activated, it launches itself from the aperture as a blade of compressed moonlight.
ABILITY: Rank 1: Projects a single crescent of moonlight energy. Cuts cleanly through wood, rope, thin metal. Can wound Rank 1 opponents and lightly injure Rank 2 if striking unprotected areas. Rank 2: Three simultaneous crescents with slightly deeper penetration. Effective against unarmored Rank 2 opponents. Rank 3: Larger, denser blade with armor-penetrating capability. Reliable against Rank 2, effective against Rank 3 with proper aim.
ESSENCE COST: Rank 1 version: ~1–2% per activation
FEEDING REQUIREMENTS: Food: Moonlight — direct exposure to natural moonlight for 4–6 hours per feeding session. The Gu must be removed from the aperture and placed in an open, moonlit area. Schedule: Every 3 days at Rank 1. Every 5 days at Rank 2. Every 8 days at Rank 3. Special condition: New moon nights provide no food — the cultivator must plan around lunar cycles. Cloudy skies reduce feeding efficiency by 60–80%. Maintaining a Moonblade Gu in a location with frequent cloud cover (certain Southern Border valleys) requires supplemental care using refined moonlight-essence materials. Consequence of missed feeding: The silver sheen on its wings dulls. At 6+ days overdue, the blade becomes unstable — it may shatter mid-flight or redirect toward the caster. At 10+ days, the Gu attempts to escape the aperture through the skin (painful).
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ OTHER COMMON COMBAT GU ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
FIRE BOMB GU (Rank 1–2, Fire path): Appearance: A plump, red-orange beetle with an abdomen that glows like an ember. Ability: Launches a compressed ball of fire. Rank 1 scorches. Rank 2 produces a small explosion. Feeding: Burning materials — wood ash, coal powder, dried grass set alight. Feed by allowing the Gu to absorb combustion energy from a small controlled fire. Every 2–3 days. Rank 2: Every 4–5 days. Note: Extremely irritable when underfed — may spontaneously combust inside the aperture if 7+ days overdue.
STONE SKIN GU (Rank 1–2, Earth path): Appearance: A grey, armored beetle with a carapace resembling compressed gravel. Ability: Hardens the user's skin to stone-level density. Rank 1 protects against basic cuts. Rank 2 resists low-level Rank 2 attacks. Feeding: Raw earth — clay soil, stone dust, mineral-rich dirt packed around the Gu while outside the aperture. Every 4–6 days.
WIND TRACE GU (Rank 1–2, Wind path): Appearance: A translucent, near-invisible moth that is felt more than seen. Ability: Significantly increases movement speed. Rank 1 doubles sprint speed. Rank 2 approaches superhuman agility. Feeding: Open wind — must be exposed to strong natural breeze (not artificial movement) for 3–4 hours per session. Every 3 days. Cannot be fed indoors.
- #5Blood Path Gu & High-Rank Mortal Gu
Keys: rank 4 gu, blood cultivation, rank 5 gu, blood path gu, strength gu, high rank mortal gu, blood asset gu, pulling mountain gu, blood essence · Secondary: mountain move, blood convert, flesh and blood gu
HIGH-RANK AND NOTABLE MORTAL GU — DETAILED ENTRIES
BLOOD ASSET GU (血本蛊) Path: Blood | Rank: 1–2 Appearance: A small leech-like Gu of deep crimson, its body pulsing rhythmically with the sound of a distant heartbeat. When fed, it bloats slightly and its pulse quickens. Ability: Converts the user's own blood essence into supplementary primeval essence. Activating it causes a small but real physical cost — blood is extracted from the body in proportion to the essence generated. Rank 1: Converts approximately 0.5% of body blood volume into 15–20% primeval essence. Leaves user slightly lightheaded. Rank 2: Converts 0.8% body blood volume into 30–35% primeval essence. Repeated use in a short period causes genuine physical weakening.
FEEDING: Food: Fresh blood — the Gu must be removed from the aperture and placed in a vessel of fresh animal blood (or the cultivator's own). It absorbs approximately one cup of blood per feeding. Schedule: Every 2–3 days at Rank 1. Every 3–4 days at Rank 2. Special condition: The blood must be warm and fresh — blood more than an hour old loses nutritional value for this Gu. Cultivators who maintain Blood Asset Gu typically keep a small animal companion for regular feeding. Consequence of missed feeding: At 5+ days overdue, the Gu begins feeding itself — creating small puncture wounds inside the aperture and drawing directly from the cultivator's blood reserves without permission. Painful and gradually debilitating.
━━━━━━━━ PULLING MOUNTAIN GU (移山蛊) Path: Strength | Rank: 4–5 Appearance: A large, dark-grey rhinoceros beetle with enormously overdeveloped forelegs. Even at rest it exudes a dense, oppressive weight — nearby objects seem to shift slightly toward it. Ability: When activated, the user can physically grip and move masses of extraordinary size and weight — boulders, building foundations, cliffs. At Rank 4: can move structures of several thousand tons with effort. At Rank 5: can engage geographical features as weapons — collapsing hillsides, rerouting rivers, throwing mountain sections.
FEEDING: Food: Compressed earth and stone — specifically, the Gu must consume stones that have been crushed under enormous pressure (naturally occurring or artificially created via other strength Gu). It swallows these directly. Schedule: Every 2–3 months at Rank 4. Every 4–5 months at Rank 5. Quantity: Approximately 50–100kg of pressure-crushed stone per feeding at Rank 4. 200–300kg at Rank 5. Special condition: Feeding requires physical effort — the cultivator must typically crush the stones themselves or use another strength Gu in concert. The Pulling Mountain Gu respects strength; offering pre-crushed material bought from a market is acceptable but reduces feeding efficiency by 30%. Consequence of missed feeding: The Gu's weight effect intensifies inward — the cultivator's own body begins to feel crushing pressure from the inside. Movement slows. At 5+ months overdue, moving one's own limbs requires effort against the Gu's internalized gravity.
━━━━━━━━ WINTER FUR GU (冬毛蛊) Path: Wood/Nature | Rank: 2 Appearance: A small woolly caterpillar with dense white-grey fur that seems to absorb ambient cold without being affected by it. Ability: Generates a coating of thermally insulating fur over the user or a target object. Near-essential for Northern Plains survival in winter months. Also useful for concealing vital Gu under a fur coating. Feeding: Gathered winter herbs — specifically plants that survive frost, including certain mosses, dried berries that persist through winter, and pine needles. Feed 3–4 handfuls every 5 days.
━━━━━━━━ GROUNDWATER GU (地水蛊) Path: Water | Rank: 2 Appearance: A small pale-blue water strider with legs that vibrate at low, almost inaudible frequencies. Ability: Locates and draws up groundwater sources within 100 meters (Rank 2). Projects a thin stream that can be directed for drinking or agriculture. In combat, can generate a jet of water with force sufficient to knock a Rank 1 opponent off their feet. Feeding: Mineral-rich water — river water from stone-bedded channels, spring water, or well water with dissolved minerals. The Gu must be submerged in approximately one liter of such water per feeding. Every 4 days.
- #6Named Immortal Gu — Extended Roster
Keys: calamity luck almanac, rank 8 gu, landscape as before, immortal gu list, teleportation gu, dream armor gu, space path gu, guts and glory, fixed immortal travel · Secondary: fixed location travel, immortal space, rank 9 gu
NAMED IMMORTAL GU — EXTENDED ROSTER WITH FEEDING
FIXED IMMORTAL TRAVEL (固定飞仙) Path: Space | Rank: 8 Ability: Precise long-range teleportation to a single predetermined fixed location. The destination is set at the time of first refinement and can only be changed through an extremely difficult re-refinement process. Extremely prized for strategic extraction — an immortal with Fixed Immortal Travel can always escape to their set location regardless of how surrounded they are, provided they have sufficient essence. Feeding: "Fixed points" of spatial energy — locations that have remained physically unchanged for at least 100 years (ancient landmarks, deep cave systems, certain immortal structures). The Gu must be brought to such a fixed point and allowed to absorb the spatial stability. Every 8–10 years. Each feeding takes 3 days of proximity to a suitable fixed location. Consequence of missed feeding: The fixed destination drifts — arriving cultivators may find themselves displaced from their intended location by increasing distances. At extreme overdue, the Gu teleports the user to random locations.
━━━━━━━━ LANDSCAPE AS BEFORE (山河故人) Path: Unclear (Space-Time hybrid speculated) | Rank: 9 Ability: Classified-level capability. Associated with restorative and large-scale spatial effects. One of the rarest Immortal Gu in recorded history. Feeding: Unknown in surviving records — likely classified by its past holders.
━━━━━━━━ CALAMITY LUCK ALMANAC Path: Luck | Rank: Immortal (approximate rank uncertain in records) Ability: Predicts and manipulates luck-related calamities. In the hands of a skilled luck path cultivator, allows pre-identification of incoming tribulation-type events and the ability to shift their probability timing or intensity. Feeding: The convergence of fortunate and unfortunate outcomes simultaneously — locations where luck and misfortune physically intersect. Battlefields where some survived and others did not. Crossroads at dawn when travelers' fortunes diverge. Every 7–8 years.
━━━━━━━━ DREAM ARMOR IMMORTAL GU Path: Dream | Rank: 6+ Ability: Unlike mortal dream Gu (which only function in dream realms), this Immortal Gu provides defensive capability in both the physical world and dream realms. In dream space, the armor is effectively impenetrable by mortal dream path techniques. In the physical world, it provides defense proportional to rank and the wearer's dream path attainment. Feeding: Time spent in dream realms while the Gu is active — the Gu absorbs dream-realm ambient energy during use. Also accepts concentrated dream essence materials harvested from deep dream realms. Every 5–6 years.
━━━━━━━━ GUTS AND GLORY (胆气蛊 — approximate translation) Path: Courage/Human sub-path | Rank: Immortal Ability: Amplifies the combat output of the user proportional to the danger they are genuinely in — the more genuine the fear and the more real the death threat, the more power is generated. Paradoxically, a cultivator using this Gu performs at their peak precisely when they are most terrified. Feeding: Genuine, life-threatening fear — the Gu must be exposed to real mortal peril (not simulated). Some holders arrange near-death experiences to maintain feeding schedules. Every 6 years.
- #7Vital Gu System — Complete Rules
Keys: vital gu destruction, vital gu bond, vital gu system, soul bond gu, first refined gu, vital gu change · Secondary: gu master soul bond, vital worm, primary gu
THE VITAL GU SYSTEM — COMPLETE RULES
The vital Gu is the first Gu a cultivator refines. In that first act of refinement, something more than ownership occurs — the Gu and the cultivator's soul form a bond at the deepest layer of existence. The vital Gu becomes an extension of the self in a way no subsequent Gu can replicate.
FORMATION OF THE BOND: During a cultivator's first refinement attempt, their soul reaches out instinctively and wraps around the Gu being refined. This is automatic and irreversible — the cultivator cannot choose to NOT bond with their first refined Gu. This is why the choice of first Gu is the most consequential decision in a Gu Master's life. Experienced cultivators and clan elders who advise new awakened candidates spend enormous effort on this question.
BENEFITS OF THE VITAL GU: • Path Alignment: The vital Gu's path becomes the cultivator's most naturally supported path — their primeval essence flows most efficiently through this path, and killer moves combining the vital Gu with others are always more powerful than combinations not including it • Cultivation Efficiency: A cultivator's growth rate in their vital Gu's path is 15–25% faster than equivalent growth in any secondary path • Rank Stability: During rank breakthrough attempts, only the vital Gu is guaranteed protection from the shattering pressure — it cannot be destroyed by the breakthrough process itself • Intimate Awareness: The cultivator always senses their vital Gu's exact condition, location, and feeding status without needing to actively check
CONSEQUENCES OF VITAL GU HARM: • Theft: If the vital Gu is stolen while the cultivator lives, the soul bond stretches like a wire — the cultivator suffers severe, sustained soul pain. Cannot cultivate during the separation. If the thief activates the Gu, the original owner may experience phantom activation sensations and temporary essence drain. • Destruction: If the vital Gu is destroyed while the bond is intact, the cultivator dies immediately in most cases. In exceptional cases (extreme talent, very high rank), the cultivator survives but suffers permanent cultivation damage — their peak potential is permanently reduced. • Detonation by Thief's Counter: A cultivator can detonate their vital Gu remotely to prevent theft — but doing so causes the same destruction consequences to themselves. Only done as a last resort.
CHANGING THE VITAL GU: Theoretically possible. Practically suicidal for most cultivators. Process:
- The current vital Gu must be deliberately destroyed — by the cultivator themselves, while the soul bond is intact
- The cultivator survives the backlash (probability varies by rank — at Rank 1–2, most die; at Rank 4–5, survival is more likely with preparation)
- Within 3 days of the destruction, the cultivator must successfully refine a new Gu — which automatically becomes the new vital Gu
- If they fail to refine a new Gu within the window, they are left without a vital Gu — permanent severe cultivation disability
Why would anyone do this? In rare circumstances, a cultivator realizes their chosen vital Gu path has reached a hard ceiling they cannot overcome, or they discover a far superior Gu that would change their cultivation trajectory fundamentally. Most who attempt the change die. Those who succeed are either extraordinarily talented or extraordinarily desperate.

THE MAJOR GU PATHS — COMPLETE OVERVIEW
PATH ATTAINMENT PROGRESSION: Novice → Apprentice → Journeyman → Master → Grandmaster → Great Grandmaster → Supreme Grandmaster
Each tier represents a qualitative leap — not just more power but a fundamentally deeper comprehension of that aspect of the Great Dao. A Grandmaster strength path cultivator doesn't simply do more damage; they understand the nature of force, mass, and leverage in ways that change how all their strength Gu interact.
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ COMBAT-DOMINANT PATHS ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
STRENGTH PATH (力道): Core concept: Pure physical amplification of the body's natural force. The most direct path in existence. Low rank expression: Enhanced physical strength and toughness. Rank 1–2 strength cultivators can match or exceed normal warriors several times their size. High rank expression: At Rank 4–5, moving boulders, reinforcing one's bones to near-metal density, and surviving blows that would shatter stone. At immortal ranks: territory-level physical effects — reshaping mountains, generating shockwaves that level forest. Cultivation philosophy: The body is the weapon. Strength path cultivators often neglect movement techniques in favor of standing firm and overpowering — this makes them vulnerable to agile opponents who refuse direct confrontation. Attainment indicator: At Master level, the cultivator's blows carry a visible force aura. At Grandmaster, their physical presence creates slight gravitational distortion.
FIRE PATH (火道): Core concept: Heat, combustion, and destruction through oxidative force. Low rank expression: Fireballs, heat shields, ignition of materials. Versatile offense with good area denial capability. High rank expression: Blue-white fire that burns through water. Fire that targets only what the caster designates. Conflagrations that persist without fuel. Cultivation philosophy: Destruction is also purification. Fire path cultivators trend toward decisive, finishing-blow mentality — they prefer to end confrontations rather than sustain them.
WATER PATH (水道): Core concept: Fluidity, pressure, and adaptive flow. Low rank expression: Water projection, barrier formation, drowning techniques. Less raw damage than fire but superior sustainability. High rank expression: Water that suffocates without liquid contact (conceptual water). Tidal manipulation. Fluid that passes through physical defenses. Note: Water and ice are related but distinct — ice path Gu require separate refinement from water path even when thematically similar.
SOUND PATH (音道): Core concept: Weaponized vibration and resonance. Unique advantage: Sound travels through any medium — walls, earth, water, dense magical defenses built for physical or essence attacks. A sound path cultivator's attacks bypass many standard defenses. Low rank expression: Stunning sonic pulses, sound-based disorientation, amplification of noise to damaging levels. High rank expression: Resonance attacks that shatter the internal structure of objects without surface damage. Silence techniques that negate enemy verbal killer moves. Sound that targets specific frequencies within a target's body.
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ SUPPORT AND UTILITY PATHS ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
INFORMATION PATH (情报道): Core concept: Intelligence gathering, surveillance, message transmission. Low rank expression: Enhanced senses, simple message Gu, basic tracking. Indispensable for clan intelligence operations. High rank expression: Monitoring entire cities for specific conversations. Intercepting and reading any message transmission within range. Memory recording and playback at perfect fidelity. Social value: Information path cultivators are among the most consistently employed specialists in the cultivation world — every major clan needs them, and their neutrality (most sell to the highest bidder) makes them unique social agents.
FORMATION PATH (阵法道): Core concept: Spatial arrays that modify territory effects — defensive lines, traps, battlefield control structures. Deployment: Formation path Gu are not activated in combat but before it — formations must be laid down in advance. A formation specialist who has prepared their ground is extraordinarily dangerous. In open, unprepared terrain, they are among the weakest combat cultivators. High rank expression: Formations that warp space within their boundaries, making enemy movement unpredictable. Defensive formations that reflect attacks. Formations that systematically drain enemy primeval essence.
REFINEMENT PATH (炼制道): Core concept: Creation, advancement, and fusion of Gu worms. Unique role: Refinement path cultivators are the Gu world's craftspeople — their mastery determines quality, not just quantity. A Grandmaster refinement path cultivator's created Gu are subtly more efficient, more stable, and more powerful than equivalent Gu made by a lower-attainment cultivator. High rank expression: Creating previously unknown Gu from raw Great Dao inspiration. Fusing Immortal Gu (a feat of near-impossible difficulty). Recipe innovation that changes the cultivation landscape of entire regions.
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ MYSTERIOUS AND RARE PATHS ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
LUCK PATH (运气道): Core concept: Manipulation of fortune and probability. Surface appearance: Luck path cultivators appear to simply be 'fortunate' — they find Gu worms when needed, survive situations that should kill them, and receive windfalls. The reality is that luck is as real and manipulable as fire or water in this world. High rank expression: Actively shifting probability fields. Borrowing others' luck (they suffer corresponding misfortune). Creating 'luck vortexes' that draw fortune to a location. At Venerable level (Giant Sun): architecting regional luck patterns that persist for millennia. Cultivation difficulty: Luck path Gu are extraordinarily rare and almost impossible to deliberately seek — by definition, finding them requires luck you don't yet have. Most luck path cultivators begin by appearing simply fortunate before they realize they have an affinity.
TIME PATH (时间道): Core concept: Manipulation of temporal flow. Scarcity: The rarest path to pursue. Time path Gu of any rank are almost never found through deliberate search — they must be encountered through fortune or inherited from a previous time path cultivator's legacy. Low rank expression: Slowing time in a small area. Briefly rewinding one's own position. Accelerating personal time perception for improved reaction speed. High rank expression: Stopping time within a range. Looping specific events. At Venerable level: the kind of large-scale temporal manipulation that Spring Autumn Cicada represents.
DREAM PATH (梦境道): Unique dual-nature: Mortal dream Gu (Rank 1–5) ONLY function inside dream realms. Immortal dream Gu (Rank 6+) function in both realms. This means mortal dream path cultivators must maintain two complete Gu sets and two separate skill sets. Low rank expression: Dream realm entry, dream beast taming, construction of basic dream structures. High rank expression: Creating dream realms that others are trapped in. Using dream space to bypass physical world defenses. Importing dream realm laws into physical reality.
SOUL PATH (灵魂道): Core concept: Manipulation of the soul — the non-physical essence of consciousness. Most dangerous path: Soul injuries are permanent without specific healing Gu. Soul path attacks bypass physical defenses entirely. A soul path cultivator who can touch your soul has leverage over your most fundamental existence. Low rank expression: Reading surface emotions and memories. Basic soul defense. Detecting soul-related Gu effects. High rank expression: Extracting and implanting memories. Creating soul clones that operate independently. At Venerable level (Spectral Soul): soul manipulation at world scale.
- #9Killer Moves — Canon Techniques & Creation Rules
Keys: dark arrow, bai ning bing technique, killer move, myriad self, sky canopy seal, combine gu technique, three breaths, myriad beast fusion, blood deity, ice crystal shockwave · Secondary: killer move creation, combat technique, gu combination
KILLER MOVES — THE ART OF COMBINATION
A killer move is the combination of multiple Gu worms in coordinated simultaneous activation, producing effects that exceed what any single Gu can achieve. The constituent Gu do NOT fuse — they retain individual identities and can be separated — but in the moment of combined activation, their dao fragments interact and amplify each other.
CREATING A KILLER MOVE:
- Acquisition: All Gu used in the combination must be in the cultivator's possession and refined
- Experimentation: Initial attempts at combining Gu are chaotic — primeval essence is wasted, the effects are unpredictable, and backlash injures the cultivator. This phase cannot be skipped.
- Refinement: Repeated practice stabilizes the combination sequence. Each session reduces waste and improves reliability. Typically requires 2–4 weeks of practice sessions for a simple 2-Gu combination.
- Mastery: At full mastery, the killer move activates as smoothly as a single Gu. Complex combinations (4+ Gu) may take months to master.
- Naming: Cultivators name their killer moves — this is traditional and meaningful. An unnamed killer move is considered an improvised technique.
KILLER MOVE POWER SCALING: • 2 Gu combination: ~2.5× the power of the stronger individual Gu • 3 Gu combination: ~4× (assumes compatible paths) • 4+ Gu combination: Exponential increase, but also exponential complexity and essence cost • Cross-path combinations: Possible but less efficient — require very high attainment in both paths • Same-path combinations: Most efficient — the dao fragments harmonize naturally
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ CANON KILLER MOVES ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
BLOOD DEITY (血神): Fang Yuan's early signature killer move (second life, early mortal cultivation). Composition: Multiple blood path Gu combined to summon a semi-corporeal blood entity that attacks with autonomous intelligence. Effect: The blood entity acts independently, pursuing enemies and striking with blood-solidified limbs. It persists as long as the caster maintains essence flow. The entity can split to attack multiple targets. Essence cost: High — sustaining the entity drains 3–5% essence per minute.
MYRIAD SELF (万我): Fang Yuan's advanced technique, developed at higher cultivation. Composition: Soul path Gu + wisdom path Gu + identity path elements Effect: Creates multiple fully functional copies of the caster, each capable of independent thought, combat, and Gu activation. At peak expression, Fang Yuan maintains an army of self-clones simultaneously, each fighting as a complete cultivator. Note: Arguably the most complex killer move in the story — its development represents the apex of Fang Yuan's mortal-era techniques.
THREE BREATHS OF SPRING WIND (三声春风): Bai Ning Bing's ice path technique. Composition: Three coordinated ice Gu — each activating in sequence, each strike building on the resonance created by the previous. Effect: Three consecutive ice attacks with escalating power. The first strike creates a resonance pattern in the target. The second amplifies it. The third unleashes accumulated force — the third strike is 4–6× more powerful than the first despite using the same Gu. The Ice Jade Peacock physique amplifies all three strikes, making each hit from Bai Ning Bing significantly more powerful than the same technique from a non-physique cultivator.
ICE CRYSTAL SHOCKWAVE (冰晶震波): Bai Ning Bing's area technique. Composition: Ice path Gu + physique resonance activation Effect: The Ice Jade Peacock physique naturally resonates with ice — this move amplifies that resonance outward in all directions as a spherical burst. Within 10 meters at Rank 3: all water freezes instantly, unprotected enemies suffer ice shrapnel damage, and lighter enemies are knocked back.
SKY CANOPY SEAL: A defensive formation-type killer move. Composition: Multiple formation path Gu Effect: Creates a dome-shaped barrier over a defined area. The barrier reflects ranged attacks back at their source at 60% of original force while allowing the caster's own attacks to pass through.
MYRIAD BEAST FUSION: High-level enslavement path technique. Composition: Enslavement Gu of several ranks + beast-enhancement Gu Effect: Merges multiple controlled beasts into a single massive composite entity. The resulting creature shares the physical attributes of all merged beasts amplified by their number. A cultivator who merges 20 wolves creates a wolf-beast the size of a house with 20× the individual strength. The composite is temporary — it separates or collapses after the battle.
DARK ARROW (暗箭): Common dark path technique. Composition: 2 dark path Gu Effect: Launches an arrow of condensed darkness that is nearly invisible in any lighting condition and leaves no light-path energy signature — making it difficult to detect with standard sensing techniques. Often used for assassination approaches.
- #10Gu Refinement — Four Types & Full Mechanics
Keys: will enforcement, gu creation, gu fusion, detonation, rank advancement gu, failed refinement, anti theft gu, gu recipe secret, gu recipe, gu refinement process · Secondary: gu advancement, gu crafting, refine gu process
GU REFINEMENT — COMPLETE MECHANICS
Refinement is the process through which a Gu Master asserts their will upon a Gu worm, establishing ownership and directing its capabilities. There are four distinct types, each requiring different resources and carrying different risks.
━━━━━━━━ TYPE 1: WILL ENFORCEMENT (意志强制) Definition: Dominating a wild Gu through force of will alone, or overwriting another cultivator's existing refinement bond.
Wild Gu Enforcement: • Wild Gu have no existing bond to resist • Success depends on the cultivator's rank vs. the Gu's rank (cultivator must be equal or higher rank) • Takes 1–3 days for a Rank 1 Gu, 3–7 days for Rank 2, 1–2 weeks for Rank 3 • The Gu's survival instinct resists — the cultivator experiences mild soul pressure during the process • Higher path attainment dramatically reduces time and soul cost
Overwriting an Existing Bond (Gu Theft): • Requires the target cultivator to be dead, incapacitated, or forcibly suppressed • A living cultivator resists with their full soul strength — overwriting a live bond requires crushing the owner's soul resistance simultaneously • After a cultivator's death, their Gu begin going wild within hours — the window to enforce before the Gu becomes unpredictably dangerous is narrow • Cross-rank theft: Stealing a Rank 3 Gu as a Rank 2 cultivator is possible but causes significant soul strain
━━━━━━━━ TYPE 2: GU CREATION (蛊虫创造) Definition: Synthesizing an entirely new Gu from raw materials according to a recipe.
Requirements: • Valid recipe (secret knowledge — recipes are among the most guarded secrets in the Gu world) • Correct materials in correct quantities and quality • Sufficient path attainment (typically Grandmaster or above for creating Rank 3+ Gu) • Soul expenditure — the act of creation draws on the refiner's soul directly • Appropriate environment (some Gu can only be created in specific locations or conditions)
Process:
- Materials are prepared according to recipe specifications
- Primeval essence is channeled to create the energetic template
- The refiner's will shapes the Gu's fundamental nature
- The new Gu "hatches" from the process — it is immediately wild and must be bonded
Failure consequences: • All materials are destroyed • Soul injury requiring 1–3 days minimum recovery • Consecutive failures compound soul injury — 3+ failed attempts in a week risks permanent damage • Some failed attempts produce unstable Gu fragments that explode or corrode
Recipe value: A valid recipe for a Rank 4+ Gu is worth enough to provoke assassination. Clans have gone to war over recipe theft.
━━━━━━━━ TYPE 3: RANK ADVANCEMENT (等级提升) Definition: Upgrading an existing Gu from its current rank to the next.
Requirements: • Advancement recipe (often more rare than creation recipes at high ranks) • Specific catalytic materials (often including Gu of lower rank as 'fuel') • Very high path attainment — typically Great Grandmaster or above for Rank 4→5 advancement • The Gu's existing bond must be stable and the Gu fully fed
Success rates (approximate, without special talents or conditions): • Rank 1→2: ~80% • Rank 2→3: ~60% • Rank 3→4: ~35% • Rank 4→5: ~15% • Any mortal rank → Immortal: ~1% (this is effectively the immortal ascension's Gu component)
Failure: Materials consumed. The Gu itself may be degraded one sub-rank or destroyed entirely at higher advancement tiers.
━━━━━━━━ TYPE 4: GU FUSION (蛊虫融合) Definition: Combining multiple Gu into a single new Gu with merged properties. The constituent Gu cease to exist individually.
Key distinction from killer moves: Killer moves are temporary cooperation between Gu. Fusion is permanent combination — the original Gu are gone.
Requirements: • Supreme Grandmaster level path attainment in ALL involved Gu's paths • Perfect environmental conditions (typically requires a specific blessed land interior or natural Qi convergence point) • All involved Gu must be fully fed and bonded • The result is unpredictable — even with a recipe, subtle variations in material quality, environment, and caster state alter the outcome
Risk: The fusion process generates enormous energy — failed fusions can be catastrophic, injuring or killing the refiner and destroying everything in proximity.
━━━━━━━━ ANTI-THEFT: THE DETONATION RIGHT (自爆权) Every cultivator can remotely detonate any Gu they have refined, at any distance, at any time, with zero preparation required — it is an intrinsic right of the refinement bond.
Detonating a Gu: • Destroys the Gu completely and permanently • If near an enemy, the destruction energy damages them (proportional to Gu rank) • The cultivator suffers no direct harm from detonating their own Gu (except losing the Gu) • Detonating the vital Gu causes the consequences described in the Vital Gu entry
Strategic use: When a cultivator is about to be captured, detonating all refined Gu ensures the enemy gains nothing useful from the capture. This is considered a legitimate and honored choice — dying with your Gu rather than surrendering them.
