SOUND PATH GU (音道蛊) — NAMED COMBAT ENTRIES
SOUND PATH UNIQUE COMBAT ADVANTAGE (REMINDER): Sound travels through every medium without exception. A cultivator inside a solid stone enclosure is not safe from sound path attacks — stone transmits vibration more efficiently than air. Water conducts sound even better. Metal armor conducts the attack directly to the body inside. Standard essence barriers (which stop energy and physical attacks) provide partial resistance at best because vibration finds physical-matter pathways around energy boundaries.
SOUND BLADE GU (音刃蛊) Path: Sound | Rank: 2–4 Appearance: A blade-shaped Gu whose body appears to be made of compressed sound — no color, but visible as a shimmer in air when active. When activated, it produces a sound midway between a shriek and a low bass thrum. Handling it without ear protection (available from specific sound-dampening Gu) causes mild discomfort. Ability: Projects a blade of compressed sound waves — not visible light or obvious essence energy, but a physical force of concentrated vibration. The blade's cutting action is through extreme localized pressure rather than a sharp edge. It bypasses armor (the vibration transmits through metal) and causes internal damage even when the surface appears unaffected. Rank 2: Soft tissue damage through light armor. Range 10 meters. Rank 4: Fractures bone through heavy armor at direct impact. Range 50 meters. At full force, can shatter stone. Essence cost: 4%/10%/18% by rank. Feeding: Resonance — the Gu must be struck precisely at its resonant frequency (found through trial: a specific pitch causes it to glow slightly when matched). A cultivator who learns this pitch can feed the Gu by humming, using a specific instrument, or striking a tuned surface. 30 minutes of resonant sound exposure per feeding. Every 3 days. Ear protection recommended during feeding sessions.
━━━━━━━━ SONIC PULSE GU (声波蛊) Path: Sound | Rank: 1–3 Appearance: A round, smooth Gu that vibrates constantly at low amplitude — perceptible to touch as a faint buzz. The vibration frequency changes based on its satiation level. Ability: Generates an omnidirectional pressure pulse of compressed sound centered on the cultivator. Affects all beings within radius simultaneously — no aiming required, no line-of-sight needed. At Rank 1: 5-meter radius, knocks non-cultivators off balance, causes disorientation in Rank 1 cultivators for 2 seconds. At Rank 3: 20-meter radius, temporarily incapacitates non-cultivators, disrupts active killer move coordination in Rank 2 cultivators (the vibration disrupts the synchronized essence activation of multi-Gu combinations). Specific application: Sonic Pulse is extraordinarily effective for disrupting formation arrays — the vibration propagates through the formation Gu network and destabilizes coordination. An active defensive array hit by Rank 3 Sonic Pulse has a 40% chance of temporary failure. Feeding: Loud percussion impact — thunder, large drum strikes, a boulder impact. Must be genuinely loud (painful to unprotected ears). Once per feeding per significant impact event. Every 2 days.
━━━━━━━━ SILENCE DOMAIN GU (寂静领域蛊) Path: Sound | Rank: 3 Ability: Creates a domain of complete silence within a defined zone — all sound within the radius is absorbed and eliminated. Counter-intuitive for a sound path Gu but extremely useful: enemy verbal killer moves cannot function (no sound to carry intent), sound path attacks from outside cannot penetrate, and all communication within the zone requires other methods. Offensive use: The silence zone strips sound path opponents of their primary attack medium while the cultivator has prepared non-sound techniques for in-zone operation. Defensive use: A silence zone around a sensitive meeting or cultivation session — prevents all audio surveillance. Feeding: The complete absence of sound — total silence for 6 hours. A deep cave far from any human activity, or underwater. Every 6 days.
━━━━━━━━ RESONANCE LANCE GU (共鸣枪蛊) Path: Sound | Rank: 3–4 Ability: Identifies a target's structural resonant frequency (requires 2–3 seconds of sensing while the target is struck by any physical force) and then generates a sustained tone at exactly that frequency. Objects and Gu constructs exposed to their own resonant frequency begin to vibrate destructively — defensive formations crack, physical armor develops stress fractures, and the target's own Gu experience activation interference. Against living beings: targets the resonant frequency of specific organ systems. Not lethal in short duration but progressively disabling. Famous application by Fairy Miao Yin at immortal tier against cultivators whose dao marks have a detectable resonance pattern. Feeding: Must generate its resonance tone against a destructible target weekly — strike a breakable object until it shatters from the resonance. The act of shattering a material through resonance feeds it naturally. Every 7 days.

FOOD PATH (食物道) — THE PATH OF NOURISHMENT
PHILOSOPHY: Food path is one of the most practically indispensable yet aesthetically understated paths in the cultivation world. Where other paths produce dramatic combat effects, food path produces the conditions that make all other cultivation possible. A food path specialist's true power is not in what they can destroy but in what they can sustain.
Food path's relationship to the Great Dao: The fundamental truth that all cultivation requires physical sustenance — Gu must be fed, cultivators must eat, the body requires resources to advance — is itself a Great Dao law. Food path cultivates direct mastery of this sustenance law.
PATH UNIQUE PROPERTIES: • Food path Gu can be used to create Gu feeding materials directly — a food path cultivator can produce specific Gu foods from raw materials, dramatically reducing the resource cost of maintaining a complex Gu roster • At high attainment, food path allows infusing cultivation effects into prepared food — cultivators who eat food path-enhanced meals receive temporary cultivation bonuses • Food path Gu interact with the human body's Qi absorption system directly — food path techniques can accelerate essence recovery, treat minor injuries through targeted nutrition, and purify toxins
NAMED FOOD PATH GU:
GU FOOD CREATION GU (蛊食制造蛊) Path: Food | Rank: 1–3 Appearance: A round, plump Gu that smells faintly of whatever food the cultivator is currently thinking about. Its surface is slightly moist. It feeds itself — the only Gu in the cultivation world that actively sources its own feeding material from ambient organic Qi. Ability: Creates specific Gu feeding materials on demand — not all types, but the specific food type matched to one designated Gu (set at refinement). At Rank 1: creates Rank 1 Gu food sufficient for 3–5 feedings per day. At Rank 3: can produce food for Rank 1–3 Gu, multiple Gu simultaneously (up to 5 designated), unlimited quantity per day. Strategic value: A cultivator who maintains this Gu for each of their main combat Gu never runs out of Gu feeding materials regardless of location. In wilderness, sieges, or extended travel where feeding resources are scarce, this Gu is literally worth more than combat Gu of equivalent rank. Feeding: Self-sustaining from ambient organic Qi — requires no manual feeding as long as the cultivator is in an environment with living things (any forest, any settled area). Fails in environments with zero organic Qi (some sterile formations, deep mineral-only cave systems). Every environment with plants or animals maintains it automatically.
━━━━━━━━ VITALITY MEAL GU (活力餐蛊) Path: Food | Rank: 2–3 Appearance: A warm, comfortable Gu that produces a faint pleasant smell when active. Holding it feels like holding a heated stone on a cold day. Ability: Transforms ordinary food into cultivation-enhanced nutrition. Cultivators who eat Vitality Meal-enhanced food receive: 20% faster primeval essence regeneration for 8 hours (Rank 2), or 40% faster regeneration plus 15% cultivation speed increase for 12 hours (Rank 3). Application: Food path specialists who provide meals to their allies effectively function as a cultivation amplifier for entire groups. A major clan that employs a Rank 3 food path specialist with Vitality Meal Gu provides their cultivators with a sustained cultivation advantage that compounds over years. Feeding: Cooking — the Gu must be present when the cultivator genuinely prepares a meal (not just assembles uncooked food). The act of deliberate, attentive food preparation feeds it. Once per day of cooking. Every 2 days.
━━━━━━━━ TOXIN PURIFICATION MEAL GU (净毒餐蛊) Path: Food | Rank: 2–4 Ability: Infuses prepared food with purification properties — any poison consumed by the recipient within 6 hours of eating the enhanced meal is automatically neutralized (up to the Gu's rank equivalent). At Rank 4: neutralizes Rank 3 poisons automatically, reduces Rank 4 poison effectiveness by 50%. Application: The standard counter-preparation before entering environments with poison path opponents or known poisoning attempts. A targeted meal given to a valuable individual before a risky meeting.

DREAM PATH MORTAL GU (梦境道蛊) — DREAM REALM SPECIFIC
CRITICAL REMINDER: Mortal dream path Gu (Rank 1–5) ONLY function inside dream realms. They are completely inert in the physical world — no activation, no effect, no combat utility. A cultivator carrying only dream path Gu in the physical world is defenseless. The path requires two complete Gu sets: physical world Gu for external operations, and dream realm Gu for dream realm operations.
ENTERING THE DREAM REALM: Access requires a dream entry Gu OR proximity to a naturally thin boundary between physical and dream realm (documented in Refine World lorebook). Once inside, all dream path Gu activate normally and produce their full effects.
DREAM SENSING GU (梦感蛊) Path: Dream | Rank: 1 Appearance: Almost invisible in the physical world — a translucent Gu that becomes fully visible and vibrant inside dream realms. In the physical world it appears as a faint heat shimmer that most cultivators don't consciously perceive. Ability (PHYSICAL WORLD): Detects the presence of dream realm boundaries within 100 meters. Allows identification of natural dream entry points. Passive — no activation required. Ability (DREAM REALM): Provides enhanced sensing within the dream realm — detects all conscious entities within 50 meters, identifies hostile dream constructs from ambient ones, and senses changes in the dream realm's local stability (areas about to shift or collapse). Feeding (both realms): Dreams — the cultivator must sleep with the Gu in their aperture and dream genuinely (not suppress dream states). The Gu feeds on the dreaming consciousness. Every 2 days. Cultivators who suppress dream states for security reasons cannot maintain this Gu without modification to their sleep cultivation.
━━━━━━━━ DREAM WEAVE GU (梦织蛊) Path: Dream | Rank: 2–3 | DREAM REALM ONLY Ability: Creates stable structures within the dream realm — floors, walls, barriers, bridges — that persist as long as the cultivator maintains focus. Dream realm structures can be made of any conceptual material: stone, metal, light, memory. At Rank 3: structures persist for 10 minutes without active maintenance, allowing the cultivator to build a prepared environment before combat. Application: Dream path cultivators who enter the dream realm before combat do so early to build favorable terrain. This is the dream path equivalent of formation path preparation — setting up the battlefield in advance. Feeding: Creative construction in the physical world — any genuine act of building or crafting (not just planning) feeds it. Building a structure, carving, preparing materials. 2 hours of genuine construction work per feeding. Every 5 days.
━━━━━━━━ DREAM BEAST BINDING GU (梦兽缚蛊) Path: Dream | Rank: 2–4 | DREAM REALM ONLY Ability: Captures and bonds dream realm creatures — the native entities that inhabit dream space. Dream beasts have no physical world equivalent; they exist only in dream realm and have properties that reflect the specific dream realm they formed in. At Rank 2: can bond Rank 1–2 dream beasts. At Rank 4: can bond Rank 3–4 dream beasts. Capture process: Dream beasts must be physically engaged in combat within the dream realm, weakened, and then the Binding Gu applied. Unlike physical world beast bonding (which uses will force), dream beast bonding requires the cultivator to find the dream beast's 'identity core' — a metaphysical anchor point that varies by dream beast type. FEEDING: The sustained bond — if the cultivator maintains active dream beast bonds, the Binding Gu feeds automatically from the bond energy. Without bonded dream beasts: must feed by entering dream realm and engaging (without bonding) with native dream entities for 30 minutes. Every 6 days.
━━━━━━━━ DREAM COLLAPSE GU (梦崩蛊) Path: Dream | Rank: 3 | DREAM REALM ONLY Ability: Destabilizes a targeted section of dream realm, causing it to begin collapsing — the environment fragmenting and any beings within the collapse zone being ejected back to the physical world. At Rank 3: collapse radius of 20 meters, complete in 30 seconds. Anything not escaped in that window takes soul damage proportional to the collapse force. COMBAT APPLICATION: The cultivator activates Dream Collapse under an enemy's feet and retreats to the stable zone's edge — the enemy either runs toward the cultivator (fighting on their terms) or runs away (disrupting any organized opposition). Against dream path enemies who have built prepared terrain, Dream Collapse destroys their preparation. FEEDING: Observing natural change — things ending, structures decaying, leaves falling. The concept of ending feeds it. A walk through a forest in autumn, attending a structure being demolished. Every 8 days.

GHOST PATH (鬼道) — NAMED ENTRIES
GHOST PATH OVERVIEW: Ghost path is the cultivation of liminal states — the threshold between life and death. Where soul path cultivates living consciousness and zombie path cultivates preserved death, ghost path cultivates the space between: departed consciousness that has not yet fully dissipated, half-alive states, and the unique energies generated by the moment of death itself.
Ghost path is classified as a demonic path technique by most righteous organizations — not universally banned, but requiring justification. The discomfort is with its subject matter: death, departed souls, and the energies of dissolution. Most righteous path cultivators find its aesthetic repellent even when its specific techniques are not technically prohibited.
GHOST CALL GU (招鬼蛊) Path: Ghost | Rank: 2–3 Appearance: A dim, cold Gu that appears slightly blurred at its edges — like something seen in peripheral vision that clarifies when looked at directly and then blurs again. The area around it is 2–3 degrees colder than ambient temperature. Ability: Calls and temporarily binds a recently-departed soul to a physical anchor — a personal object, a location of significant death, or the cultivator themselves. At Rank 2: binds souls departed within 24 hours, duration 10 minutes. At Rank 3: binds souls from within 1 week, duration 1 hour. The bound soul retains its personality and knowledge from life. Applications: Intelligence gathering from the recently dead — 'interview' witnesses to crimes or events after they have died. The soul knows only what it knew in life; it cannot see the present. Ethical note: The soul cannot consent. Ghost path practitioners typically rationalize this as 'temporary consultation' rather than enslavement (see Soul Servant in soul path for the fully condemned version). Feeding: Proximity to natural death — the Gu feeds on the energy released at the moment of passing. A cultivator who regularly attends the natural deaths of living things (animals, plants, elderly people dying of age) maintains it easily. Otherwise: placing it in a charnel ground or burial site for 4 hours. Every 4 days.
━━━━━━━━ DEATH AURA GU (死气蛊) Path: Ghost | Rank: 2–3 Appearance: A withered, dried-looking Gu that seems to be perpetually in the process of dying — its color fading slowly and then returning, cycling through what appears to be a death animation that never completes. Ability: Generates a visible aura of death Qi around the cultivator. Effects: life path and wood path Gu within the aura have 30% reduced effectiveness (dead Qi suppresses life energy). Non-soul-path opponents feel a primal discomfort that slightly impairs their combat focus (-10% killer move coordination). Ghost path and zombie path techniques in the aura are enhanced (+20% effectiveness). Passive deterrent: Many animal-type beasts and lower-rank cultivators instinctively avoid the death aura. Not fear of the cultivator specifically but biological avoidance of concentrated death energy. Feeding: Old graveyards — the accumulated death Qi of historical burials. 4 hours in a genuine cemetery (not just any burial location but one with multiple layered generations of the deceased). Every 5 days.
━━━━━━━━ GHOST FORM GU (鬼形蛊) Path: Ghost | Rank: 3 Ability: Temporarily shifts the cultivator into a semi-incorporeal state — not full invisibility (soul path sensing can still detect the soul), but physical attacks pass through the ghost-form body at 70% reduced effectiveness. The cultivator can pass through thin barriers (paper, light wood, cloth curtains) without physical interaction. Against solid stone or dense metal: requires essence expenditure to pass through (30% per meter of dense material). Duration: 30 seconds per activation. Weakness: During ghost form, the cultivator cannot use physical force — they cannot pick up objects, strike physically, or carry items. Only essence-based techniques remain accessible. Soul path attacks affect ghost form at full effectiveness (more effective, actually — the reduced physical protection makes soul attacks land more cleanly). Feeding: Liminal locations — doorways, boundaries between inside/outside, water's edge, night/dawn transition. 30 minutes at a genuine boundary during the transition moment. Every 5 days.

SHA PATH (杀道) — THE PATH OF KILLING
PHILOSOPHY: Sha path is the cultivation of killing intent itself — not a specific killing technique but the distilled essence of lethal will as a cultivation resource. Where hatred path uses a specific emotional target, sha path cultivates the abstract orientation toward killing as a constant state.
SHA PATH UNIQUE MECHANICS: Sha path cultivators develop a visible killing aura that genuinely affects their environment. At high attainment, plants wilt slightly in their presence, animals flee instinctively, and lower-rank cultivators experience a fight-or-flight response that impairs their tactical judgment.
The path has a significant side effect: sustained sha path cultivation progressively reduces the cultivator's emotional bandwidth for non-combat states. They become more effective in battle and less functional in peaceful social contexts. Supreme Grandmaster sha path cultivators are extraordinarily dangerous and essentially impossible to interact with in non-combat settings.
KILL INTENT GU (杀意蛊) Path: Sha | Rank: 1–3 Appearance: A red-black Gu that appears slightly damaged — cracks in its surface that somehow never worsen. It radiates a faint pressure perceptible only to cultivators with path-sensing capability. Ability: Projects killing intent as a tangible force affecting targets within range. At Rank 1: targets within 5 meters experience mild threat response (elevated vigilance, slight hesitation). At Rank 3: targets within 20 meters experience significant psychological pressure — Rank 2 and below cultivators have reduced combat coordination (-20%), soul path cultivators can push through it, strong-willed cultivators reduce the effect by 50%. The pressure is cumulative with other killing intent sources — a battlefield where multiple sha path cultivators are active creates layered pressure that affects even experienced Rank 3 cultivators. Feeding: Killing — the act of personally killing a living being, any size. The Gu feeds on the realized killing intent at the moment of a kill. One kill per feeding cycle. Cultivators who go weeks without killing must supplement with the killing of animals. Every 3 days. SHA PATH GU THAT ARE INADEQUATELY FED become volatile — they begin randomly projecting killing intent toward the cultivator's own allies.

DISASTER PATH (灾难道) — THE PATH OF CALAMITY
OVERVIEW: Disaster path is one of the rarest paths to find Gu for — they form specifically at sites of natural disasters (earthquakes, floods, volcanic eruptions, lightning storms), requiring both the disaster event and a specific window of post-disaster Qi concentration to form.
The path specializes in large-scale destructive force — not precision but overwhelming area effect. A Rank 3 disaster path cultivator is less effective in single combat than a Rank 3 sword path cultivator of equivalent attainment but devastates terrain and groups.
Disaster path is associated with the demonic path culturally even though it is not technically classified as a banned path — the scale of destruction makes righteous path organizations deeply uncomfortable with its practitioners.
EARTHQUAKE PULSE GU (地震冲蛊) Path: Disaster | Rank: 3–4 Ability: Generates a ground-wave pulse that propagates outward from a point of impact. At Rank 3: 30-meter radius, everything in contact with the ground takes impact damage proportional to rank differential; formation arrays laid on the ground fail immediately. At Rank 4: 100-meter radius, geological features crack, stone structures destabilize, and the ripple persists for 10 seconds (multiple impact waves). Feeding: Genuine seismic activity — must be present within 10 kilometers of a real earthquake (any magnitude) and allow the Gu to absorb the geological energy. In seismically inactive regions: must be fed by the controlled collapse of a significant structure (a large building brought down intentionally). Every 2 months.
━━━━━━━━ FLOOD SURGE GU (洪涌蛊) Path: Disaster | Rank: 3 Ability: Calls a flood of disaster-path water — not ordinary water but water charged with disaster Qi that flows with impossible force and direction. At Rank 3: a surge of water 5 meters wide and 1 meter deep that can originate from any existing water source within 50 meters and be directed at a target. The disaster Qi makes the water unusually destructive — it damages formation arrays, carries objects as dangerous projectiles, and cannot be stopped by standard water path techniques of equivalent rank. Feeding: Flooding observation — must witness a genuine flood event (river overflow, storm surge, dam break) once per month. In flood-free environments: immerse in fast-moving water (not still water) for 4+ hours. Every 30 days.

UNRAVEL DREAM PATH (解梦道) — SHATTERING ILLUSION
OVERVIEW: Unravel Dream path is the counter-tradition to dream path and illusion-based cultivation. Where light path creates illusions and dream path creates dream realms, unravel dream path peels away constructed realities to reveal the truth beneath.
The path's philosophy: all illusions, all deceptions, all constructed realities contain the seeds of their own dissolution — because they are built on the mismatch between what is presented and what is. Unravel Dream cultivators train their perception to find that mismatch and pull the thread.
At high attainment, unravel dream path cultivators cannot be deceived by illusion techniques of equivalent rank. At Grandmaster: even techniques of one rank higher fail partially against them.
REALITY ANCHOR GU (现实锚蛊) Path: Unravel Dream | Rank: 2–3 Appearance: A dense, heavy Gu that appears extremely 'real' — every detail of its surface is hyper-vivid. Holding it makes the cultivator's immediate surroundings seem more clearly defined. Illusion-affected objects appear slightly blurred when perceived alongside the Reality Anchor's clarity field. Ability: Creates a clarity field around the cultivator that reveals illusions. At Rank 2: illusions and dream constructs within 5 meters become visibly transparent — the cultivator sees both the illusion and the reality beneath it simultaneously. At Rank 3: 15-meter field; the Gu broadcasts the clarity field passively to nearby allies (they also see through illusions within the field). FEEDING: Direct confrontation with truth — not seeking truth abstractly but literally acknowledging a specific difficult truth the cultivator has been avoiding. Once per feeding cycle, the cultivator must acknowledge something true about themselves or their situation that is uncomfortable. The Gu can sense the authenticity of this acknowledgment. Performed deceptions don't feed it. Every 4 days.
━━━━━━━━ DREAM BREAK GU (破梦蛊) Path: Unravel Dream | Rank: 3 Ability: Forcibly ejects a target from any dream realm or illusion state they are currently inhabiting — returning them to physical reality with the soul-shock of abrupt disconnection. Rank 3: ejects targets from dream realms of up to Rank 3 equivalent depth. The ejection causes 1–3 day soul strain (minor tier) in the target from the abruptness of the transition. COMBAT USE: Forces trapped allies out of dream realm attacks. Removes enemies from defensive dream constructs they have prepared. Against a dream path cultivator who has built extensive terrain preparations, Dream Break collapses those preparations instantly. FEEDING: Waking up suddenly — being abruptly awakened from deep sleep by external stimulus. The cultivator must experience genuine unexpected waking (not planned alarms — genuine surprise interruption of deep sleep) once per week. Cultivators who control their sleep cycle completely cannot maintain this Gu without periodic disruption of that control. Every 7 days.

PHANTOM PATH (虚幻道) — BETWEEN REAL AND UNREAL
OVERVIEW: Phantom path is distinct from both light path illusions and transformation path disguise. Light path creates convincing visual constructs. Transformation path changes what the cultivator actually is. Phantom path creates constructs that are partially real — they exist in a liminal state between solid matter and pure illusion.
A phantom construct has partial physical presence: it can be touched, it has weight, it interacts with solid objects — but it can also be passed through under the right conditions, and it has no independent consciousness or cultivation. The in-between nature makes phantom constructs the hardest to categorize and counter: light path detection sees them as real, physical testing encounters partial resistance, soul path finds nothing.
PHANTOM STEP GU (虚幻步蛊) Path: Phantom | Rank: 2–3 Ability: Creates a persisting phantom afterimage of the cultivator — a partial-real construct that mimics the cultivator's appearance and maintains their last action for 3–5 seconds. Enemies who have targeted the cultivator find their attacks striking the afterimage (which has partial physical substance — it absorbs the first physical or essence attack before dissolving). Mobility application: The cultivator uses Phantom Step to leave an afterimage while repositioning. In battle, this creates a 3-second window where the cultivator is physically elsewhere while the afterimage takes the targeted attack. Feeding: Reflection — a perfect reflection of the cultivator in still water for 2 hours. The Gu feeds on the existence of its own reflected copy. Every 3 days.
━━━━━━━━ PHANTOM ARMY GU (虚幻军蛊) Path: Phantom | Rank: 4 Ability: Creates up to 20 partial-real phantom duplicates of the cultivator simultaneously. The phantoms move, respond to visual stimuli, and have partial physical substance — all the properties of Phantom Step afterimages but persistent and numerous. Enemies cannot determine which is real through visual assessment or standard sensing (only soul path or fate path examination identifies the real one). Essence cost: 35% creation + 8% per minute sustained. Limitation: The phantoms cannot activate Gu — they are constructs without cultivation. Any observer who successfully triggers a phantom duplicate to use a Gu will find it cannot respond, identifying that copy as false. Experienced cultivators specifically test this. Feeding: Creating and destroying things simultaneously — the Gu feeds on the paradox of making something that is then unmade. Craft something and then destroy it immediately. Every 5 days.

SPRING AUTUMN CICADA (春秋蝉) — VERIFIED COMPLETE MECHANICS
RANK: Rank 5 at original refinement by Fang Yuan's second life beginning. In Fang Yuan's FIRST life, he refined it to a much higher state (implicitly approaching or at Rank 9) before using it. PATH: Time CLASSIFICATION: Immortal Gu (Rank 9 in first life; the Rank 5 version retained in second life has different but still extraordinary capability)
ACCURACY CORRECTIONS FROM PREVIOUS LOREBOOK: The previous lorebook entry stated the Spring Autumn Cicada 'sends the soul backwards in time to the precise moment they first refined it — carrying all accumulated memories and knowledge but none of their physical cultivation.' This is ACCURATE.
HOWEVER: It also stated 'The Rank 9 version has greatly expanded temporal power.' This is correct but requires clarification: Fang Yuan's Spring Autumn Cicada in his second life is the Rank 5 version. His Rank 9 first-life version was consumed in the first temporal jump. He is working with the recreated Rank 5 bond.
CANON-ACCURATE FEEDING: Feeding: Fresh spring blossoms (first three days of spring, before fully opening) AND freshly fallen autumn leaves (within 24 hours of falling, before decay). Both required simultaneously. Schedule: Every few years at Rank 5 (exact years not specified in canon — every '3–5 years' is a reasonable inference). Missed feeding causes the Gu to become restless — the canon effect of extreme overdue feeding is not fully specified but consistent with the general 'turns wild' mechanics.
THE SECOND ACTIVATION (Volume 2 End): Fang Yuan's second use of Spring Autumn Cicada was NOT a full 500-year jump. He used it at the Three Kings Inheritance to jump back to just before Bai Ning Bing's betrayal — a very short temporal adjustment. This is consistent with the Gu's mechanics but demonstrates that the jump point is specifically 'the moment of first refinement' only for DEATH-activated full jumps. Voluntary short activations operate differently — this distinction may be a feature of the Rank 5 version specifically.
