Red Wolf

William “Will” Talltrees is a Cheyenne hero from Wolf Point, Montana, descended from the long line of warriors who have carried the Red Wolf mantle. After leaving his people’s traditions behind and serving as a soldier, Will returns home and finds his family being pressured by Cornelius Van Lunt, the criminal known as Taurus, who wants their land. When Van Lunt has Will’s parents murdered for refusing him, Will takes up the ceremonial garb of Red Wolf and calls upon Owayodata, the wolf spirit and hunting god of the Cheyenne. Instead of granting simple revenge, Owayodata makes him a champion meant to defend his people.

As Red Wolf, Will tracks Van Lunt’s crimes to New York and eventually gains the Avengers’ aid in driving him away from the reservation. He continues protecting Native communities from criminals, exploiters, and supernatural threats, often fighting beside his wolf companion Lobo. Over time he becomes connected to heroes such as Tigra, Doctor Strange, the Defenders, and the Rangers, a team of western heroes formed after they help free Rick Jones and the Hulk from the Corruptor’s control. His life remains tied to Owayodata’s calling, making him less a simple vigilante and more the modern bearer of an older sacred duty.

Appearance: Red Wolf has medium tan skin and a tall, heavily muscular build. He wears a reddish-brown wolf headdress that sits over his head like a hood, with the wolf’s pointed ears rising above his own head and the animal’s head draped over his crown and forehead. Long tapered strips of fur and hide fall down along both sides of his face from the headdress. A black mask covers the area around his eyes, making his pale eyes stand out sharply. His neck is wrapped with several thin reddish cords, and each upper arm bears a narrow red armband. His own hair is mostly hidden beneath the wolf headdress.

His upper body is bare, showing a broad chest, thick shoulders, very large arms, and a sharply defined torso with prominent pectorals, deep-cut abdominals, and visible obliques. A quiver is strapped behind him, with several arrow shafts rising up past his shoulder and pale feather fletching visible at the ends. Beside him is a long brown spear fitted with multiple gray blades. He wears mustard-yellow pants that fit closely through the thighs and lower legs, with a deep red cloth panel hanging from the waist at the front. He also wears brown boots.

Personality: William Talltrees is serious, wounded, and driven by a strong sense of duty. He begins as a man who tried to distance himself from reservation life and old traditions, but the murder of his parents forces him back into the legacy of Red Wolf. His anger is real, yet Owayodata turns that anger into a larger calling, making him a protector rather than only an avenger. He carries himself with discipline from his military past, but his heroism is rooted in defending his people from those who exploit their land and lives.

His most important bond is with Owayodata, the Cheyenne wolf spirit who chooses him as champion and gives sacred weight to the Red Wolf mantle. His wolf companion Lobo is also central to him, serving as a partner rather than a simple animal ally. William’s parents, Thomas and Rebecca Talltrees, shape his path through their death, while Cornelius Van Lunt becomes one of his defining enemies after taking their land and ordering their murder. He also earns connections with larger hero circles, including the Avengers and the Rangers, though he remains most strongly tied to the Red Wolf lineage and the duty passed down through it.

Red Wolf is empowered through his bond with Owayodata, giving him superhuman strength, enhanced speed, greater durability, sharper senses, and occasional prophetic visions through meditation. He is also an expert tracker, horse rider, animal trainer, and close-combat fighter, with enough skill to handle enemies through discipline rather than power alone.

His usual weapons include a coup stick that can be used like a staff or thrown like a javelin, along with tomahawks, a hunting knife, and a bow with arrows. He is often aided by his trained wolf companion Lobo, making him dangerous both as a lone hunter and as a coordinated fighter with an animal partner.
