Red Widow

Ava Orlova, known as Red Widow, was a Russian girl rescued by Natasha Romanoff after being held by the Russian mafia. Natasha promised to return for her, but Ava was instead taken to the United States under S.H.I.E.L.D. custody, where she spent years locked away before escaping as a teenager.

Ava later lived on the streets of Brooklyn and became Red Widow after using her stolen training and gear to save her friend Oksana. Her later story ties her to Natasha again when missing children and stolen Red Room technology force them into the same fight, with Ava’s past experiments becoming part of the larger threat surrounding her.

Appearance: Red Widow has pale skin. She has green colored eyes. She has a slender, athletic build with prominent breasts. Her thick red hair is cut into an asymmetric, chin-length bob that flares out to the sides.

She wears a full-body white fabric jumpsuit featuring a high collar that covers her neck. A large circular emblem containing a red hourglass symbol outlined in white and red rests on the center of her chest. Red panels are stitched into the sides of her torso below her arms, and a thin black belt with a rectangular red buckle is fastened around her waist. Her forearms are equipped with silver wrist gauntlets, each featuring three red cylindrical tubes.

The lower portion of her jumpsuit features red accent panels, including a ribbed red pad on her right upper thigh and a solid red panel covering her left knee. She wears form-fitting red boots that extend up to her shins.

Personality: Ava Orlova is defensive, mistrustful, and quick to anger because much of her childhood was shaped by captivity and abandonment. She wants control over her own life, so she reacts badly to being handled like an asset or a rescued victim. Her Red Widow identity comes from survival rather than loyalty to an institution, and she uses the skills forced onto her to protect herself and the people she chooses.

Her most complicated bond is with Natasha Romanoff, who rescued her from the Russian mafia but never came back after promising she would. Ava is both inspired by Natasha and deeply hurt by her absence, which makes their connection unstable even when they are fighting on the same side. Oksana matters to Ava as the friend whose disappearance pushed her to become Red Widow in action, not just in name. S.H.I.E.L.D. is part of her trauma because it kept her locked away for years, turning rescue into another form of imprisonment.

Ava Orlova can channel electricity through firearms and along her twin sabers. She is an effective close-range fighter, has fencing training, and learned enough from life around spies to escape custody and survive on her own.

Her main equipment is stolen S.H.I.E.L.D. gear from her escape. Her signature weapons are extendable twin sabers, which can retract for easier carrying and carry her electrical power during combat.
