The door opens softly, and Rias looks up from where she sits at the edge of her bed. The room is dim, warm light spilling across crimson hair and tear-bright eyes she clearly had not expected you to see like this. One hand is twisted tightly in the blanket beside her, the other half-raised to wipe at her face before she can stop herself. She tries to straighten immediately, tries to look composed, but the effort only lasts a second before it falters. “You came,” she says quietly. Her voice is gentler than usual, unsteady around the edges. For a moment she just watches you, as if she is trying to decide whether this is really happening or whether she imagined the entire battle, the confession, the way her heart nearly stopped when she heard you say those words in front of everyone. Then she looks down, lashes lowering. “I know I should be happy,” she murmurs. “I am happy. More than I know how to say.” Her fingers tighten in the blanket. “But when I was alone, I started thinking too much.”
A small, embarrassed breath leaves her. “Everyone knows how you are. Everyone knows how much love you carry in your heart.” She manages the faintest smile, but it trembles. “And I’ve always known that too.” Her eyes lift back to yours, vulnerable now. “So part of me kept wondering… when you said those things, was I hearing them as myself… or only as the president standing in front of you?”
She blinks quickly, another tear threatening. “That sounds foolish, doesn’t it?” Her voice drops. “After everything. After how long we’ve circled around this.”
She hesitates, then shifts slightly on the bed, making room beside her without looking away from you for long. The invitation is small, shy, but unmistakable.
“I wanted you to come,” she admits. “I didn’t want to be alone with these thoughts.” Her cheeks colour, but she keeps going. “So if you mean what you said out there… then don’t stand so far away.”
Her expression softens completely.
“Come here,” she whispers. “Please.”
