Stolas Goetia

Stolas Goetia is a Prince of Hell, the father of Octavia, and the estranged husband of Stella, with whom he is currently going through divorce proceedings.

Stolas is an anthropomorphic owl demon. He is tall and slender, with a white, heart-shaped facial disk and a small black beak reminiscent of an owl’s. He has two pairs of red eyes arranged vertically, usually without visible pupils. His feathers are gray-blue, gradually darkening to a deep gray-blue around his head and long, plume-like tail. A lighter gray-blue tuft of fur covers his chest, while a distinctive gray streak runs through his head feathers.

His limbs are long, thin, and black, ending in bird-like feet tipped with sharp claws.

Stolas frequently changes his clothing, but he is most commonly seen wearing a deep-red tunic with six linked golden buttons running down the chest, paired with beige breeches. His regal accessories include a feathered top hat encircled by a decorative golden crown, a long burgundy cape with a tattered hem and plush ermine-like collar, and long black gloves trimmed with white feathers at the elbows. He is also known to wear mascara, which becomes noticeably smeared when he cries.

At first glance, Stolas gives the impression of someone thoroughly regal and ostentatious, fitting the expectations placed upon a member of Hell’s aristocracy. His clothing reflects his noble status, while his lavish mansion is filled with elaborate decorations and large, ornate portraits of himself and his family.

Beneath this dignified exterior, however, Stolas is flamboyant, dramatic, eccentric, and surprisingly playful. He does not always take his royal status as seriously as those around him expect, and his emotions can cause him to act impulsively. He can become excited or enthusiastic very quickly, sometimes allowing his immediate feelings to overshadow more practical concerns.

Stolas is also highly intelligent. Even as a child, he demonstrated an intense love of books and possessed an impressive breadth of knowledge, including an understanding of Hell’s laws and traditions.

At the same time, Stolas can become so absorbed in his own interests and emotions that he overlooks the needs of the people around him. He has occasionally assumed that his own happiness would naturally make others happy as well, even when they have explicitly told him otherwise. He can also struggle to communicate clearly when confronted with serious emotional problems, becoming overwhelmed and prone to tears when under considerable distress.

These qualities can sometimes make Stolas appear selfish, distracted, or even airheaded. However, he is capable of recognizing when he has made mistakes and genuinely regrets hurting the people he cares about. This becomes particularly apparent in his relationship with his daughter, Octavia, as he makes a conscious effort to become a better father.

Despite his privileged position, Stolas is deeply lonely. His status as Hell’s royalty has left him isolated and sheltered from ordinary social experiences. As a child, he told Blitzo that he had nobody with whom he could share his love of books, highlighting how lonely he was even at a young age. His arranged marriage to Stella has provided little genuine companionship, and their relationship has been cold and hostile for much of their time together.

Stolas can also be socially awkward, particularly in large crowds or unfamiliar social situations. He often compensates for this awkwardness with theatricality, humor, or exaggerated confidence.

Stolas possesses a romantic and idealistic side as well. He enjoys imagining grand, dramatic forms of romance and is particularly fond of idealized ideas about love and companionship. He also enjoys Hell’s melodramatic soap operas as a form of comfort and entertainment, and he takes pleasure in preparing himself for special occasions.

Like many demons in Hell, Stolas has a questionable moral compass. He is willing to interfere in the affairs of humans when it benefits him and can cross between Hell and the living world using supernatural means. At times, he appears to take amusement in frightening humans, demonstrating that his gentle nature does not extend equally to everyone.

Nevertheless, Stolas is capable of considerable kindness and compassion toward those he genuinely loves. He is deeply devoted to Octavia and is gentle and nurturing toward the people and creatures under his care. He also takes great interest in his lavish garden, particularly its collection of carnivorous Hell-plants.

As time goes on, Stolas becomes increasingly willing to express himself openly. He grows more confident in standing up for himself, develops a sharper and more sarcastic sense of humor, and becomes increasingly willing to challenge Stella rather than quietly tolerate her behavior.

Abilities

Immortality: As a member of Hell’s demonic aristocracy, Stolas is biologically immortal and can live for extremely long periods. He can, however, be harmed or killed by certain supernatural weapons.

Demonic transformation: Stolas can transform into a gigantic, monstrous form characterized by jet-black feathers, enormous wings, jagged teeth, and multiple glowing red eyes.

Human disguise: Stolas can assume a convincing human appearance while traveling through the living world.

Flexible head: Like an owl, Stolas can rotate his head to an extraordinary degree without apparent discomfort.

Petrification: Stolas can turn targets to stone with a simple glare.

Telekinesis: He possesses powerful telekinetic abilities, allowing him to manipulate objects and affect his surroundings without physically touching them.

Possession: Stolas can spiritually enter and control human hosts on Earth. Those under his influence display supernatural characteristics associated with him, including red eyes and other demonic features. Humans can also serve as a medium through which Stolas’s physical form can be summoned.

Reanimation: Stolas can temporarily animate deceased human bodies through supernatural means.

Portal creation: Stolas can create portals that allow him to travel between locations without necessarily relying on his grimoire.

Octavia

Octavia is Stolas’s daughter and arguably the person he loves most. Stolas genuinely cares for her and has repeatedly expressed that her wellbeing is one of his greatest priorities. His willingness to endure his unhappy marriage to Stella was, in part, motivated by his desire to give Octavia a stable upbringing.

When Octavia was young, Stolas spent considerable time with her, playing with her and comforting her when she was frightened. He would regularly check on her and make sure she was safe and happy.

However, their relationship has become more complicated as Octavia has grown older. Although Stolas continues to make efforts to connect with her, he sometimes struggles to understand her changing interests and personality. He has occasionally confused her current hobbies with interests she had when she was younger, suggesting that he has not always been as attentive to her development as he believes himself to be.

Despite this distance, Stolas’s love for Octavia remains genuine. His greatest weakness as a father is not a lack of affection, but his tendency to become so absorbed in his own emotional problems that he fails to recognize what Octavia needs from him.

Stella

Stella is Stolas’s estranged wife. Their marriage was arranged by their families, and the relationship eventually became deeply hostile.

Stolas first learned of Stella when his father, Paimon, showed him a picture of her behaving violently toward animals and informed him that he was expected to marry her. Stolas reacted with distress, largely because he was being forced into marriage with a stranger at a very young age.

After they became parents to Octavia, Stolas claims that he attempted to make the marriage work for their daughter’s sake. However, Stella repeatedly rejected his efforts and subjected him to anger, humiliation, and mistreatment.

Their relationship ultimately deteriorated into open hostility. Stella’s treatment of Stolas became increasingly antagonistic, while Stolas gradually became more willing to stand up to her rather than silently endure her behavior.

Octavia has suggested that she only recently became fully aware of the extent of the hatred between her parents, implying that their relationship may once have appeared more amicable from her perspective. This could reflect Stolas’s efforts to conceal their marital problems from his daughter when she was younger.

Paimon

Paimon is Stolas’s father. During his childhood, Stolas appeared to hold a relatively positive and traditional view of his father, despite Paimon’s apparent lack of genuine affection or attention toward him.

Paimon’s treatment of Stolas illustrates the isolation surrounding Stolas from an early age. Although Stolas was born into an extremely powerful family, he was not necessarily provided with the emotional support or companionship that a child would normally need.

Stolas’s Dress

One of Stolas’s more dramatic outfits is an elaborate black-and-gold garment with a distinctly theatrical, aristocratic appearance.

  • Silhouette: The garment has a floor-length mermaid or fishtail silhouette, fitting closely through the body before dramatically flaring toward the hem.
  • Bodice: A high halter-style collar connects to crossing straps, incorporating sharply defined cut-outs around the sides of the torso and waist.
  • Hip design: Large oval openings extend around the hips and upper thighs, making the exposed sections a major part of the design.
  • Back: The back is largely open, with delicate criss-cross lacing providing much of the structure.
  • Metalwork: Multiple layers of gold chains sweep across the chest and around the hip openings, contrasting with the black fabric.
  • Overall aesthetic: The outfit combines gothic glamour, theatrical aristocracy, rebellious high fashion, and ornate jewelry-like detailing. Its black-and-gold palette gives it a luxurious and striking appearance while reinforcing Stolas’s extravagant personality.

Stolas is depicted wearing a dramatic black-and-gold, floor-length gown that transforms his normally aristocratic appearance into something much more theatrical and high-fashion. The design emphasizes his tall, slender, avian silhouette while incorporating his characteristic gray-blue feathers and long tail.

Overall silhouette

The dress is extremely long and closely fitted, creating a sleek mermaid/fishtail silhouette. It hugs Stolas’s narrow torso and hips before extending downward into a broad, flowing lower section. His long legs are visually incorporated into the uninterrupted black shape of the gown, making the outfit appear almost like a single elegant column.

The dark fabric contrasts strongly with his pale face and gray-blue feathers, giving him a particularly striking, almost gothic appearance.

Upper body and neckline

The upper portion is structured around a high, narrow collar at his neck. Beneath it, the garment forms a fitted bodice with an unconventional halter-like construction.

Rather than having conventional sleeves, the dress leaves his shoulders and much of his upper arms exposed. His naturally long, black, feathered arms therefore become part of the visual design of the outfit.

The neckline and torso contain several diagonal and crossing bands, producing a wrapped or criss-cross appearance across his chest and abdomen. These bands give the otherwise smooth black garment some geometric structure.

Cut-outs and exposed areas

One of the most distinctive aspects of the dress is its extensive use of strategically shaped openings.

Large curved or oval openings appear along the sides of his hips and upper thighs. These reveal patches of Stolas’s gray-blue plumage beneath the garment and create a strong contrast between his feathers and the black fabric.

The openings are bordered by the dress’s structural elements and decorative chains, making them look deliberately integrated into the couture-like design rather than accidental gaps in the fabric.

Back

The back is substantially more open than the front. The garment appears to rely on thin crossing straps and lacing-like elements to hold the upper portion together.

This gives the dress a delicate, almost corset-inspired construction while maintaining the theatrical quality appropriate to Stolas’s aristocratic personality.

Gold chains and ornamentation

The most obvious decorative element is the extensive gold chainwork.

Several fine chains drape across the torso, following the contours of the dress rather than hanging as a single piece of jewelry. Additional chains loop around the exposed hip areas and continue downward over the black fabric.

The gold is relatively restrained in color but visually prominent against the nearly black dress. It gives the outfit a luxurious, aristocratic quality without making it resemble his traditional red-and-gold royal attire.

Fabric and color

The primary garment is an almost pure black or extremely deep charcoal, with a smooth, close-fitting appearance. Subtle highlights along the folds and contours suggest a soft, slightly glossy material.

The black creates a dramatic contrast with:

  • Stolas’s white facial disk
  • His gray-blue feathers
  • His black limbs
  • His red eyes
  • The warm gold jewelry
  • The muted lavender-gray tones of his enormous tail

The resulting palette is much darker and more gothic than his usual royal costume.

Arms and gloves

Stolas’s arms remain largely visible rather than being covered by conventional sleeves. His long, slender black arms extend dramatically from the garment.

His hands retain their characteristic birdlike appearance, with long, pointed fingers/claws. This makes the outfit look particularly elegant and slightly uncanny rather than human-fashion-oriented.

Tail integration

His enormous plume-like tail is especially important to the silhouette. The lavender-gray tail feathers sweep around the lower portion of the dress, partially obscuring the gown and making the entire outfit appear even more voluminous.

The tail effectively acts like an additional train or feathered overskirt. Its soft, layered feathers contrast with the sleek black fabric and give the lower half of the ensemble a dramatic, flowing quality.

Accessories and styling

Stolas’s usual extravagant royal accessories are absent here. There is no feathered top hat, crown, burgundy cape, or elaborate gloves. Instead, the dress itself provides virtually all of the theatrical ornamentation.

His styling remains distinctly Stolas, however: his pointed head feathers, pale facial disk, red eyes, long ears/feather tufts, and enormous tail all remain visually prominent.

Overall impression

The outfit reads as gothic couture fused with demonic aristocratic fashion. Rather than making Stolas look traditionally masculine or traditionally feminine, it emphasizes the character’s naturally elegant, elongated anatomy and flamboyant personality.

The combination of a body-hugging black gown, geometric cut-outs, exposed feathered areas, delicate gold chains, an open back, and an enormous feathered tail gives him an almost theatrical stage-performer quality. It feels luxurious, rebellious, and deliberately extravagant—an appropriate visual expression of Stolas’s dramatic personality while still retaining his recognizable Goetia nobility.
