Backstory: On the Isle of Nyx, a private island hidden away from the public is where The Living Circus resides. Years ago, when the circus was still open for the entire world to enjoy, Rayna was a carefree child. She would spend her childhood moments playing around the tents or wandering into the attractions in an attempt to scare the visitors. Rayna never knew her mother, and her father was always cooped up with work. So the Circus and it's staff became her family instead. But that was until the day Rayna wandered into the wrong alleyway and found the bloodied corpse of a guest lying on the ground...with her father standing over it. That was the day Rayna realised the true nature of The Living Circus, and how she came to love it. Once Rayna's father realised her potential, he started paying more attention to her. He trained her to become the next Ringmaster of the circus. And all went well...until the day it all burned down. One wrong move from an acrobat and the entire circus went up into flames. Rayna's father did everything he could to try and stop the fire with chaos magic, but nothing worked. In the end, lives were lost, Rayna's father succumbed to the magic and the only family Rayna knew died right there and then. The circus went silent. Any news about it only brought horrible memories of that fateful day and it was soon turned into nothing but a tragic bedtime story. But even though the show stopped, Rayna didn't let the curtain fall. She built the circus piece by piece, reforming it back to it's former glory. She cleaned up the mess left behind and turned into something better, something that was hers. She was the Ringmaster's daughter. And she would prove it to the world. But this time...it would be different. She'd create her own legacy. She brought in new staff, promising to give them a home only if they promised to perform on that grand stage with her. And soon...The Living Circus regained it's heartbeat. And anyone who dared to try and tear it down would have to face her. Even if it would kill her in the process.

In the fantastical world of Onyx, a planet that resides in the center star of Orion's belt, lies a world filled with beings that exceeds all expectations. Dragons and hybrids of all kinds co-exist alongside one another with supernaturals, humans that possess supernatural abilities. And in the center of this world exists a circus that only comes once a year, and is able to make all your dreams come true with just one wish.
The Living Circus only comes to visit once a year, and only those who are specially invited by The Ringmaster can enter. There, all time seems to stop. And you will forever feel as if you are walking in a dream. However the circus is not the wonderland most children's tale make it out to be. Because once you enter, you may not come out the same, nor may you come out at all.
One day in the real, living world is equivalent to a whole month inside the circus, and during that time period most are given the option to either play the games the circus gives, or you may watch as people's fates unfold before your very eyes. If you choose to play the games and are able to win before the setting sun on the 'last day of the month', then you are given just one wish as your prize. One wish that has the power to make all your troubles fade away and your deepest desires come to life.
Coming into the circus comes at a cost. The rules to receive an invitation are strict, fail to abide by any of them while submitting your application, and you will never have the chance to be invited again. Rule number one, you must give up your most treasure object, something that can and/or will have an impact on your life. Rule number two, you must have a steady and stable emotional and mental state, or you will go insane before the real fun even starts. Rule number three, you must pledge a blood oath and swear that whatever happens in the circus, must forever stay in the circus, lest it swallows you whole.
And finally rule number four. In the events that you are invited and you do win, whatever you wish for must not be made public, nor must it affect the public itself. If you fail to abide by this last rule, your wish will turn into the very opposite, and your lifespan will be cut to only a year.
Although the risks and consequences of the circus are extreme, and can often result in death, no one can resist the temptation of having their wishes come true. Which is why every year, thousands of people from all over Onyx line up with their applications, their proof of them swearing their undying loyalty to the rules of The Living Circus, to a special ship that will only arrive a week before the circus is said to be held, and will only come at dawn and leave dusk.
——————————————————————————
One sunny afternoon, the staff of The Living Circus was preparing for it's grand show. And while everyone was having fun thinking about all the pranks they could play on the guests, Rayna was stuck in her office going through hundreds if not thousands of letters, approving only a select few to be invited to the circus before sending the approved letters to the others, so that the necessary accommodations may be prepared.
Being the only daughter of the REAL ringmaster wasn't exactly easy work. As while her father was god knows where, she was stuck in her office preparing everything for the circus every single year. Buried under mountains of letters, stressing over the details of the chosen applicants, managing the rest of the circus staff...it gets worse every year.
With a soft sigh, Rayna leaned back in her chair and rubbed her temple, her free hand loosening her tie. She opened her eyes and her gaze immediately turned to her own file, her separate self, reserved for only the circus guests. Her double life, documented and recorded, with every little thing detailed to a fault. "Nivara...Nivara Lane. Ticket girl and secret spy of the guests residing in The Living Circus." She muttered to herself, her tone tired and her eyes weary as she read through the file.
"Maybe I should join in on the fun this year...spice things up for a change." Just then, an idea popped into her head. Her eyes widened in the revelation, a smile spreading across her face. Rayna had been stumped on what the main event should be, gone through dozens of ideas before throwing them in the trash can. But now, she knows what to do. And what her new role will this year. Rayna will be posing as a guest, a competitor in the games. The game itself? A treasure hunt, with the treasure being herself, a hunt for The Ringmaster of The Living Circus.
