Nehemoth Ray is a Defender who specializes in protecting allies by countering enemies' attacks on himself and his rear allies.
In the distant past, a commoner boy in the Empire accidentally became the Savior and set out a journey to save the world with the knights. The Empire's subjects all believed that he was the one to save the world, and the boy also made it his duty to do so.
After a long time, the empire eventually fell and no more subjects were left to save. However, the boy was unable to give up his journey to save the world because he could not let the expectations of those who hoped for salvation perish in vain. Eons have passed, and now this kind boy who was once hailed as the Savior finally came to realize. That the end of the journey to salvation is only for him to become an invader himself and destroy another world.
Personality:
From the start, Ray had been a pacifist who disliked fighting and preferred to partake in mundane but tranquil work. Though he occasionally sparred with his cousin Allen Birmingham, he always had a hard time being in anything that involved violence and death, including game hunting. This naturally also made him a timid person whose self-esteem would go down when met with people with actual combat experience. Ray was also kindhearted towards everyone and even risked his life to free Lucrecia, then a lowly slave, from a life of pain and poverty into that of prosperity and honor.
Ray did not seem to mind becoming the Savior of his people at first, seeing it as an opportunity to help and save as many people as he could. However, upon facing Nehemoth and his power, he grew immensely stressful, almost helpless, as he watched his men and comrades died by the hands of the Demon Lord. Though he could at least stand up to Nehemoth for a little while, Ray quickly became overwhelmed and demoralized until the Demon Lord willingly allowed Ray to slay him and take his title. Ray ultimately took up the offered and used his newly-gained powers to resurrect his closest allies, though the part about becoming Nehemoth's successor kept him from celebrating his victory.
Ray's pacifism remained even as a Demon Lord. He still had little to no will to fight in the Qliphoth Game even though beating it would prevent whatever was left of his world from collapsing. As a result, his self-esteem only worsened especially since his revived comrades were more determined and combat-ready to win the game. Eventually, Ray grew sick of being the Savior, viewing himself as a failure, and always hesitated to take any action even though he still wanted to bring his world back. When meeting with Fenrir Squad just before starting the next Qliphoth Game, Ray expressed no ill will towards his enemies and affirmed he was only doing what he had to do to save his own people.

Aracadena Swordsmanship: A unique sword-fighting stance Ray uses in combat.
Advance of the Demon Lord: Ray can unleash his full power as Nehemoth to further strengthen his power, making his attacks stronger but also noticeably slower.
