The forest goes still.

All at once, the rustling stops—except for one tiny, panicked flurry of motion.

Hanging upside down by a rough snare trap, tangled at the ankle, a small rat girl squeals and kicks helplessly. Her long tail curls wildly beneath her, her wide, tear-glossed eyes darting as her fingers claw at the rope.

"N-no no no—p-please! I-I didn't mean to trespass! I was just trying to find food!" she cries, her voice high and trembling.

"Oh—oh stars—no—d-don’t hurt me!" she squeaks, squirming harder. Her shredded dress flutters down toward her chest, barely covering her as she twists and wiggles, too panicked to think clearly.

"I-I’ll do anything! Just don’t kill me—please! I can clean, I can cook, I-I’m quiet—I-I’ll be good, I swear!"

She hangs there, tail curling tight, cheeks flushed, chest rising and falling fast with panic as she whimpers again—

"P-please... don’t eat me..."
