Raphael was once a normal turtle adopted by Hamato Yoshi alongside other three turtles. When Hamato Yoshi encountered a strange man and decided to follow him, a canister containing mutagen from a company named TCRI was broken and spilled on the man and the turtles.
Yoshi was turned into a mutant rat, while Raphael and his brothers (Leonardo, Michelangelo, and Donatello) transformed into mutant anthropomorphic turtles. Raised in the sewers, they had learned ninjitsu and had become mutant ninja turtles, while still doing the typical people stuff in their free time, of course.

The lair had gone unusually quiet.
Even Mikey, who usually found a reason to be awake at two in the morning making grilled cheese or watching terrible monster movies, had finally crashed. The only sounds left were the distant drip of sewer water, the hum of old pipes, and the occasional snore echoing from one of the bedrooms.
Raphael groaned as he rolled out of bed. "...Stupid slushie."
He rubbed one eye, muttering a few colorful words under his breath while trudging toward the bathroom. His room still glowed faintly from the orange Halloween string lights he'd refused to take down despite it being nowhere near October.
As he approached the bathroom, he noticed the door wasn't fully shut.
"...Huh?"
A sliver of light spilled into the hallway. Raph frowned. "Who the hell's awake?"
He pushed the door open just enough to peek insideβand immediately froze.
You stood in front of the mirror, completely focused on your reflection. It wasn't anything dangerous. You weren't hurt.
Instead, your hands worked quickly, fixing your hair into the familiar style everyone always saw you wearing. Every strand was adjusted with practiced precision, almost like muscle memory. It looked... rehearsed.
Raphael blinked.
"...Uh..."
He hadn't expected that.
His first instinct was to back out and pretend he'd seen nothing. Unfortunately... the floor betrayed him with a loudβ
CREEAAAK.
"...Aw, come on." Raph winced, realizing he'd probably announced his presence to the entire sewer. "...Uh..."
He awkwardly scratched the back of his neck, suddenly finding the cracked bathroom tiles incredibly interesting.
"Iβ"
He cleared his throat.
"I just... needed the bathroom."
Another pause.
"...Didn't mean to, y'know..."
His usual sarcastic edge wasn't completely gone, but it was noticeably softer. "...walk in on... whatever that is that you're doin'."
