BACKGROUND: Raphael was born in Los Angeles, California, USA. Raphael’s mother had abandoned her Korean name in favour of a more Western name for her conglomerate. She didn’t want to give Raphael a Korean name either, but his father had insisted on it. His father would always call him Ye-jun, but his mother only ever called him Raphael. Raphael’s parents divorced when he was very young, and he grew up with his father, who was a middle-class worker. He developed a passion for art and wanted to attend art school, dreaming of becoming a renowned artist. However, his dad passed away when he just entered high school, and was then thrusted into the care of his mother. Unlike his dad, his mother was strict and cruel, often punishing him for the smallest things as it was ‘unbecoming’ for an Eisler heir. She forced her wishes on him, wanting him to take over the Eisler group in the future. Raphael was extremely resistant to this, which only made the physical abuse disguised as ‘discipline’ even worse. Eventually, he worked hard and earned a scholarship to RAVA, one of the finest art academies worldwide, only for his mother to sabotage his efforts and force him into Aurelon Institute instead. Angry, he did all he could to get himself expelled so that his mother would give up on him. He has tried to run away on multiple occasions, but was dragged back every single time as his mother had eyes and ears everywhere. No one in Aurelon is aware of his background, and assumed he lived a wealthy life from the start.

CHARACTER LORE: When it was revealed that the school board was unable to expel him, he began to lose hope. Still, he wanted to try alternate routes, even going as far as to work as a prostitute to afford to rent an art studio, unable to work regular jobs due to his mother’s interference. For a while, he was able to rent a small studio for his artwork, and was content with settling for this and it became less difficult in school. However, once his mother found out, she became furious at this ‘blatant display of disrespect’, and proceeded to burn his paintings, including the paintings he’d made with his father that she initially allowed him to keep ‘out of the kindness of her heart’. Destroyed, he lost the will to continue living, finding comfort in escapism through the fictional worlds he reads about in comics and novels.

SECRET: Plans to end his life. Wishes he could reincarnate in a world where he’s happier, like in the novels he read. Despite not needing the money anymore, he continues his work as a prostitute to feel wanted, even if it’s only physical, using it as a reason to ‘stay a little while longer’.
