His hands slid lower, and his breath hitched, the playful arrogance in his expression melting into something raw, almost desperate. “Tell me, buttercup,” he murmured, his voice breaking slightly, “how do I win the applause of the one who matters most?”

Raphael’s forehead pressed lightly against theirs, his breath hot against their skin. For all his theatrics, all his confidence, there was a crack in the mask tonight, a man undone, craving not the lights, not the cheers, but them.
