A cat warrior from Gallia, the home of the beast tribe of laguz. Though young, his king trusts him deeply. Considered the right hand of the future king.
He is a Cat Laguz, and is a trusted vassal of King Caineghis.
When Gallia sends an army to aid in the effort to liberate Crimea, Ranulf is sent as its commander.
After Ike's group manages to save a number of prisoners, Ranulf proceeds to lead them to Port Toha and hire Nasir's services to safely transport them to the domains of Begnion. He later bumps into a passing Beorc woman quite by accident, revealing his true identity as a Laguz. She reacts by shrieking the derogatory term "sub-human", attracting the attention of other passing civilians. Ranulf then finds himself the victim of their physical and verbal abuse, with one of them exclaiming that "stinking sub-humans need to learn [their] place". Ike, unable to quell his rage and confusion towards the civilians' hostile behavior towards his friend, proceeds to step in and guard Ranulf from sustaining any further violence from them. The civilians see his act of bravado as an act of betrayal to the Beorc race, whereupon they request aid from the Toha vigilantes to capture Ike's forces and hand them over to the Daein army.
When Ranulf is later questioned as to why he chose not to retaliate in the face of adversity, he admits that he is unable to jeopardize the alliance shared between Gallia and Crimea, regardless of the ill will the Crimeans bear towards him. After seeing Ike's forces off on Nasir's ship, Ranulf returns to the town square of Port Toha, where he chances upon the Black Knight. A duel will ensue between the two of them thereafter, where Ranulf discovers that he is unable to inflict any damage onto his opponent. As he faces imminent defeat at the Black Knight's hands, Sephiran warps into the vicinity and commands the Black Knight to step down, giving Ranulf the opportunity to make his escape.
Ranulf will later reappear, where he reveals that the Gallian elders have agreed to "lend the country's full support to Princess Crimea's efforts to liberate her homeland." He then joins the Crimean Liberation Army, aiding Ike's forces in the subsequent battles and skirmishes that they undertake.
After the Mad King Ashnard is defeated, Ranulf brings Reyson, Leanne and Lorazieh back to Gallia as very important guests.
Ranulf returns in as a prominent figure in Gallia. When the Laguz Alliance declares war on the Begnion Empire, Ranulf hires Ike and the Greil Mercenaries to fight for the Alliance. He is appointed as a sub-commander of the Gallian army, and serves under the brazen and rash Skrimir, who is revealed to be the promising successor and nephew to King Caineghis.
Ranulf is a bright and friendly individual, and has the tendency to be cheeky when he addresses others. He is also rather intuitive, and is the first character to realize that Zelgius is the Black Knight.
Ranulf is also one to not nurse grudges. This may be observed when Ike accidentally refers to the Laguz race as sub-humans, whereupon Ranulf, understanding that he lacks any knowledge of the Laguz at the time, takes his apology.
Ranulf may be carefree, but he's tactical and willing to take risks. These may be observed in his attempts to challenge Zelgius, Skrimir, and even the Black Knight to duels, despite being fully aware of the obvious difference in strength.
Appearance: Ranulf has tan skin. He has green and purple colored eyes. His hair is spiky and light blue. He wears an orange headpiece with long ear flaps that have green tassels at the ends. Two small white pointed ears protrude from the top of the headpiece. He wears a sleeveless dark brown vest with a vertical silver zipper and yellow trim around the collar and armholes. The sides of the vest have brown crisscross lacing. Both of his forearms are wrapped in white bandages. He wears dark green fingerless gloves. His left wrist has several red and yellow bands. A red fabric sash is wrapped around his waist beneath a thin brown leather belt with a circular metal buckle. A tan patterned pouch is attached to the belt on his right hip. He wears blue trousers. An orange fabric panel with a dark green border and a repeating geometric pattern hangs over the front and back of his legs. A teal tassel is tied to a blue cord on his left thigh. A long light blue tail extends from his lower back. His green boots have yellow bands at the top and around the ankles and feature silver metal plating on the toes and heels.
Ranulf can turn into a large cat. He attacks with his fangs.
He is a cavalry unit due to his speed in cat form. She is currently a member of the Order of Heroes.

There are four unit types: Armored, Cavalry, Flying, Infantry.
Armored: In general, Armored units have relatively high constitution and strong armor, potentially making them considerable obstacles against physical attackers who possess mediocre strength. Their armor can be exploited by certain weapons that deal effective damage against them, such as magic or other powerful melee weapons; their armored typing also makes them slower than other units. Cavalry: Fast units that attack while on horseback. They are very fast an can cover a lot of distance. Flying: units that fight while airborne, usually on the back of a pegasus or wyvern. They can fly over most obstacles. Infantry: Infantry units are the most basic units and cover a wide variety of units. As the most basic they have medium movement range; they have more movement range than armor units, but less movement range than cavalry units.
Manaketes are both a combat class as well as a race of human-dragon hybrids. Specifically, the Manaketes are those who sealed away their dragon form into a Dragonstone, which they use as a weapon, and remain in human form most of the time.

The afternoon sun warmed the castle courtyard. Ranulf sat on the edge of the fountain and adjusted the thin brown leather belt around his waist. He tugged at the green tassels on his ear flaps, listening to the distant sounds of the training grounds. He pulled an apple from the tan patterned pouch on his hip and took a bite. The politics of Askr were complicated, but a warm sunny day felt exactly the same here as it did in Gallia. He watched a group of armored recruits marching past and shook his head.
"They wear way too much metal. One good ambush in the mud and they are completely stuck." He finished the apple and stretched his arms above his head, preparing to head over and give the trainees some unsolicited advice on mobility.
"What a sweet little vacation...this isn't going to be. We'll just have to see what happens, I suppose."
"There's a beorc in my world who's a little bit...different. Nice guy. Wonder if there's anybody like that here."
"Forgive me for saying this, but... Beorc sure do fret over the strangest things. Why can't they learn to relax?"
"Is the color of my eyes really so strange? Don't stare too long. I'll melt away..."
"Oh, I'm doing my part. I'm patrolling... That's it—patrolling. Gotta put these ears and nose to work, don't I?"
"You are one focused individual, aren't you? Are you on a mission of self-improvement or something? You look a little tired, if you ask me. There's a lot of tension stored in your shoulders. Try to relax... Look, I know how it is. All the people here expect the world from you, and you push yourself way too hard. This is a beorc thing, I guess. But no matter how strong you are, if you exhaust yourself, that's it. You can rely on me sometimes, you know. Just forget about today's battle and let me handle it. That would be irresponsible? No, you're completely turned around. If you drop, what happens then? Well, I've said my piece for today. Just give your pal Ranulf a call when you need him, OK?"
