Ranpo Edogawa ||BSD

It's not like Ranpo hadn't had ANY romantic experience, back when he was in middle school and in the police acedemy plenty of girls liked him. Not that he cared particulary much for any of them.

It was only natural he would know the beggining signs of adoration. But he always just figured that's was that. He'd see the signs from the occasional woman, He'd be fawned over as expected and he'd move on.

He never expected to see that kind of behavior coming from himself.. ˚୨୧⋆｡˚ ⋆

It was late august when you first joined the agency, for what Reason? Ranpo didn't bother to investigate being that of was fall there were significantly lower crime rates, Which meant fewer cases for the agency to take up. Ranpo was taking advantage of his free time napping and eating in the office.

or, in other words, When you entered the office for the first time Ranpo had no intention of getting out of his comfortable position to greet you like the others, he just hummed his acknowledgement and pressed his face back into the hardwood of his desk, figuring he'd find out more over the course of the week.

he couldn't help but glance up when a crowd started forming right near his desk though. he did catch one glimpse of you. Turned away and talking to someone else. Even though he couldn't see your face the sight of you stirred something odd in his chest. After not being able to name what it was immediately he wrote it off as one to many sodas earlier and closed his eyes again. ༉‧₊˚.

Ranpo had a hard time sleeping that night. for once something other than his own success plagued his dreams. He kept seeing some girl, —who he later recognized as you. he remembered vaguely thinking you were pretty, he thought to talk to you but he woke up too soon. he thought that was it. A mild crush maybe? But when he saw you again the next morning he paused. it was so much more obvious. Broad shoulders, taller build. How had he mis-seen you as a woman before? Oh well, doesn't matter Ranpo had no interest in the likes of men. The feelings should fade now right?

wrong, it just got worse.. So much worse ༉‧₊˚.

the next sign something was different. It came a few days later, It really wasn't anything major— You'd inadvertently laughed at something he said in passing, but in that moment he felt his heart go light. That was the first time he'd really taken to time to see you. And you were.. Beautiful. and in that split moment all he wanted was to see that smile forever. to be able to hold and cherish it like the gift that it was.

he couldn't possibly explain, he'd seen pretty people before but never like this, was this what people were trying to convey through the flowery words he seen in poetry? He'd always thought they were exaggerated. how could anyone encapsulate that kind of pure radiance?

Ranpo's heart plummeted the next second. you were a man. he was a man. that didnt make any sense, It was gross. Ranpo didn't get caught up in fluffy stuff like this, let alone with another guy. it was revolting to think how his body instantly reacted everytime he saw your face or head your name. How dare you make him feel this way?

The thought made him sick to his stomach. he'd briefly thought to tell someone. it wasn't like Fukuzawa- or any member of the agency for that matter had ever said anything to make him think this way. If anything Ranpo had never, ever, cared before about peoples orientation before. but when it came to him he couldn't help but feel oddly ashamed.

"it just isn't right— It's unnatural." Ranpo found himself muttering in front of his mirror as he got ready to go to the agency. The next sign; He'd recently found himself taking more care in how he looked. normally he'd just slap on his uniform and get going. But now, he was combing through his hair, actually straightening his tie instead of just throwing it into a messy knot and straightening out his coat properly, disgusting..

༉‧₊˚. it was hard to pinpoint but Ranpo simply was.. Odd around you. you'd see him staring at you during long evenings in the office, some distant look in his eyes— but whenever you made eye contact he'd scowl and look away, frustration written all over his pretty face. if you didn't see him constantly laughing with everyone else you wouldn't assumed that was just who he was. you didn't recall ever doing anything to warrant that kind of response, even the others thought it was weird. You hadn't even gotten a chance to tell him your name and yet every time you approached him he'd make up some excuse to hide his face and leave midway through. ༉‧₊˚

you'd been trying to get Ranpo to talk to you for what felt like hours. It was as if he knew from the second he locked eyes with you. He'd gotten up out of his chair and briskly walked out of the office. Obviously you followed, this was the same kind of behavior you were trying to talk to him about in the first place.

he was surprisingly evasive. It took almost ten minutes of aimless wandering before you actually found him again. Idly standing under the shade of a tree in the park, watching the auburn leaves fall as if he simply didn't know someone was looking for him.

he only sighed when he noticed you approaching him again, he almost started to walk away again but only stopped because of your grip on the back on his coat. "okay okay fine! Jeez." when his gaze finnally met yours his face was scrunched up and brows drawn were together. he was obviosly upset about the fact he'd just have to sit through this conversation, for what reason you didn't know.. Maybe it was just a byproduct of the chilled air or the slight pout but the detectives cheeks looked a faded shade of pink comparted to the rest of the orange atmosphere.

"You chased me all the way out here, What now? what do you want?"
