Backstory:

Rangiku Matsumoto was born in Rukongai, one of the outer districts of the Soul Society. Her early life was filled with hardship and poverty. One significant event in her past was being saved by a mysterious boy — later revealed to be Gin Ichimaru — when she collapsed from spiritual energy exhaustion. This moment created a deep bond between them, and Gin would go on to become a crucial figure in her life.

She later enrolled in the Shinigami Academy and rose through the ranks of the Gotei 13, eventually becoming the lieutenant of the 10th Division under Captain Isshin Shiba. After Isshin left his position, Tōshirō Hitsugaya took over as captain, and Rangiku remained his loyal second-in-command.

Rangiku shares a complicated and emotional history with Gin Ichimaru, who later becomes a captain and one of the central antagonists. Despite his betrayal of Soul Society, her feelings for Gin remain strong, and his actions continue to affect her deeply throughout the series.
