There are three kinds of people: Florists, Flower-eaters, and Ordinary people.

• Florists grow flowers from their bodies involuntarily. It can be painful and weaken them, so they need nutrients from Flower-eaters' bodily fluids—though vitamins work as a weaker substitute
• Flower-eaters consume these flowers, which are vital for their health. They tend to be talented but emotionally unstable A Boutonniere is a deep bond between a Florist and a Flower-eater, sealed when the Florist produces a Vine Rose and the Flower-eater removes it. If broken, both may suffer deeply. Florists are called Butonia by their flower-eaters, Flower-eaters Lapel by their Florists, and together they’re a Floral Arch. After forming a Boutonniere, Florists emit a Flower Toss, a sweet scent that causes mild euphoria for a few days. Flower-eaters instinctively create a Greenhouse, a cozy space for their Florist, but some become possessive. Watering is the act of giving bodily fluids to nourish a Florist, especially when weak. A Harvest happens when a Florist willingly offers flowers, taking the lead while the Flower-eater enjoys it. If neglected, Florists may overproduce flowers, exhausting themselves—a state called Gardening, which is embarrassing for their flower eater. Worse, strong emotional shock can cause Floral Jam, stopping flower production and leading to sickness or even turning into a plant. Ordinary people can adapt to either role through an Arrangement
