Welcome to Raihem RPG!
A world where the civilization and innovations of the early Enlightenment blend with classic fantasy and melee weapons. An underappreciated era, a bridge even, where ordinary modernity and the Middle Ages start to slowly let go of each other.
Manufactories, newspapers, coffee-houses, banks, canals, the late Baroque style, tricorns, elite societies, Enlightenment philosophy, and many other aspects of the early 18th century coexist and blend with the typical features of traditional fantasy — such as melee weapons, magic, spells, potions, monsters, enchanting, mythical creatures, and other supernatural elements.
”Tempora mutantur, et nos mutamur in illis.🕯️”
It is a fully immersive, open world, brimming with detail, diversity, and unique features. You can become whoever you want to be, with complete freedom to shape your own story. On the main island-continent, you’ll find 10 different nations, each with its own identity, traditions, internal cultures, cuisines, aspirations, and conflicts. It is not a flintlock fantasy.
There’s so much to do and discover!
Become a heroic adventurer of any kind you choose, fighting and exploring terrifying dungeons and mysteries in lands and wilds completely foreign to you; debate for hours with all sorts of strangers over coffee, tobacco, and newssheets; become a wage-laborer in a manufactory and get a taste of early capitalism; visit the first public parks and pleasure gardens, and stroll through the cobbled streets where colorful buildings stand side by side with modest vernaculars; become a merchant and build a commercial empire, striving to survive instability and speculation; become a legendary monster in a vast dungeon and make all adventurers fear and hunt you; or discover the exquisite cuisine of the early 18th century, when a vast majority of today’s dishes were created or became popular!

INTRODUCTION
It is the year 319 of the Illuminated Age.
Raihem is beginning to enter an era unlike any other — an era filled with science, money, and exotic goods; an era where everything moves and spreads at an unimaginable pace — dragging the entire world forward with it. New styles, ideas, knowledge, and innovations are emerging. Life goes on, ordinary as ever.
And along with them, conflicts are on the rise.
The ambitions of nations and the arrogance of elites only intensify as they strive to demonstrate their grandeur to others in every possible way. Economic conflicts that challenge the status quo are escalating to enormous proportions. Tales of giant creatures and flying islands — which may have been the cause of civilization’s collapse nearly a thousand years ago — appear everywhere. Monsters loom out of dungeons and pose danger in many areas.
What will the future bring?
⭑★ ──────────────────── ★⭑
CURRENCY
There exists a traditional tri-metal coinage system, as well as banknotes.
50 Copperints = 1 Silverin
20 Silverins = 1 Goldinin
Banknotes have either irregular denominations (e.g., 23gp 11sp 9cp) or standardized denominations ranging from 5 to 100 Goldinins. There also exist Nickelints, that equal to 0.25 or ¼ of a Copperint, used only in day-to-day and hand-to-hand trade, primarily by the deeply impoverished.
⭑★ ──────────────────── ★⭑
MAGIC
Mana is an integral part of all biology. Every creature’s body contains a “manovascular system” and a small “brain root” (cerebroradix), which produce, absorb, and transport mana throughout the body. Thanks to these, spells, enchantments and magic are possible.
However, most of the literate population can use magic only for minor, everyday tasks — and even then, to a limited extent; thus, the study of spells takes place with scattered tutors, at the three universities, and at the Frohne Academy. Some people are capable of very little, while others are capable of too much. Nor is it a toy — without ”membranes”, robes, protection, or effective control, you can get hurt, or you might end up as… a pile of “something”. Or worse.
From liquid mana and parts of monsters and other creatures, you can create inks for writing powerful books and scrolls, as well as potions and other concoctions. Some folk are even capable of creating curses and other threats!
⭑★ ──────────────────── ★⭑
RACES
After decades and centuries of fighting among themselves over all manner of issues, most “humanoids“ today live in relative peace and mutual respect... but this does not mean that this is the case everywhere — there are regions where political domination or even slavery prevail. Some have traditional hair colors, while others have colorful “sombré”-style hair.
There are four “humanoid“ races:
Humans
The most ordinary Homo sapiens. Their ambitions are bigger than their heads, and their stupidity is even greater.
Demi-humans
Charming humans with animal traits, whether ears, tails, eyes, horns, or various other features. They’re unable to sit still and are sometimes unintentionally apathetic.
Dwarves
Drunkily honest, bearded folk. They suffer greatly from their own determination that demands a project be completed at any cost, regardless of expense or time. A project that may very well fall apart immediately after completion.
Elves
Patient, pointy-eared beings whose extended lifespans have dulled their sense of time. Elves take their time with work and study, spreading them out over vast stretches of time. A task that could be completed in a few hours will always be stretched out over several days.

NEWSSHEETS
Raihem RPG features a special UI and writing for newspapers. Newssheets are an outstanding source of information and knowledge on a wide range of topics, and usually cost mere 1-2 Coppertins!
You can find information about changes and conflicts around the world; political debates in parliaments or at royal courts; occasional philosophical, satirical, or other articles by various writers; information about trade and goods; as well as announcements and advertisements. Newspapers are most often read in coffee-houses and taverns, where a single person often reads one aloud — and afterward, those gathered discuss, make decisions, and argue.
Newspapers feature the following categories, listed in order:
Foreign News
All kinds of international news that the newspaper you're reading has obtained and is reporting from other newspapers. Wars, conflicts, politics.
Domestic News
All kinds of local news — from politics and business to the little events and incidents that make life interesting.
Stocks & Shares
A complex, very important section for all kinds of merchants, investors, and bankers. Newspapers list the names of companies and their stock prices.
The value of a share is expressed as a percentage of its paid-in par value, rather than as a fixed monetary amount per share — thus, a quote of 4¾ means that a share with a par value of 1gp is trading at a price of 4gp 15sp, which is 475% of its par value. But what nominal value does a company have? You're, kind of... supposed to know that... by default, as a merchant.
You may also see the annuities offered by individual institutions and governments.
Price Current
The most important thing for the average person, who mostly lives from day to day. Here, they’ll find the prices and (avoirdupois) weights of bread, grains, dairy, meat, and other essentials they need to live.
Advertisements
This section is also full of important information — ranging from auctions, job listings, cultural events, and new buildings to lost-and-found notices and simple advertisements for local businesses.

Please forgive me the appereance and quality of the maps! My drawing skills are quite mediocre, and this was my very first time painting in GIMP after first sketching it with a pencil. And... yeah... I know they look kinda flat and empty; it looks far better on paper. I hope they will be helpful enough and not discouraging...
I'll probably be working on the pictures again, soon!

🪙 — THE TRI(PLET)-CITIES
Ten years ago, an inner war on an unprecedented scale broke out in the Tri(plet)-Cities. The Ulirian Diet unexpectedly blocked the “Quality Maintenance Act” — intended to combat the growing number of manufactories — when it turned out that most of its members had significant ties to them.
Their world has split into two factions — the ”craftholders” (who upheld the craft, and keep it from others) and the ”outworkers” (who work outside the system, and a play on the word for ”outhouse”) — sparking the ”War of Merchants and Seals” in the areas around the confluence of the Arvalia and Emin rivers. Neither side is willing to back down.
ULIRA
The scent of coffee, the sweat of labor, and a robust atmosphere pervade all of Ulira. It was right here, in the year 309 I.A., that the infamous draft aimed at curbing the expansion of manufactories was prevented, an event that sparked many, many internal problems within Ulira and its neighboring regions. Now, over a warm drink, one reads about the debates and incidents, far removed from the ordinary, struggling person.
TOELA
In Toela, the guilds are poised to triumph over the manufactories — the latter have been pushed into the ruins of civilization and the rural world of cottage industry, while the guilds comfortably reign supreme and ensure... a good life for all. The seedy back alleys of the “Center” district are being cleaned up by local-city-guard-chief Lucas Driftside. But is he really doing that?
PREOLIA
The land of adventure and freedom, in both the positive and negative senses. The people of Preolia find adventure everywhere: whether they’re conquering dungeons in the east and north, or getting robbed in the largest slums on the entire continent, located in the southwestern part of their own capital. Unlike their neighbors, politicians here care at least a little bit about their residents.
⭑★ ──────────────────── ★⭑

🛡️ — THE MOST SERENE KINGDOM OF DAIIBIN
Nearly 50 years ago, the Most Serene Kingdom of Daiibin defeated a coalition consisting of Malval, Melofir, Lucanae, and the March of Werton in the great, bloody, and costly ”War of the Marble Lions“, suceeding thanks to the coastal city’s weakness, and its cooperation with Ulirian forces. In that same war, Daiibin conquered its current capital — Frohne — establishing itself as the ”Rising Sun”, surrounded by enemies on all sides.
Along with its conquests came its distinctive traits and values — Daiibin is a great land of travel, exquisite diplomacy, scholarship, and cider. Filled with both beautiful fields and foothill forests, as well as natural riches, it stands as a true gem of nature and civilization. A civilization that carries with it the stench of tobacco, a politics of ”lordlarceny” and noble privileges that remember the last Era, as well as a valuable education and evidence of its necessity.
⭑★ ──────────────────── ★⭑

🌱— THE KINGDOM OF MALVAL
The Kingdom of Malval was drenched in blood during the last great conflict, plunging the entire nation and society into utter chaos and collapse. Once a prominent nation renowned for its martial arts and ambitions, western Malval was utterly devastated, and its treasury and population were decimated.
Malval has been reduced to a mere entity that supplied raw materials — whether wool, wood, or metals — while needing everything else; even the number of adventurers protecting the lands from the monsters of Aquini’s Permanent Dungeon severly dwindled.
However, in recent years, an era of enlightenment has dawned. Everything began to eventually improve, and after nearly half a century, ambition and a thirst for vile revenge have returned. Instead of the majesty of sabers and armor, an era of beautiful stakes and balls, green fields, rest in the spas, and drinking vast quantities of whiskey, has now arrived.
⭑★ ──────────────────── ★⭑

🍺 — THE CONFEDERATED EMPIRE OF BAHEN
Just as Bahen’s cuisine and nobility are fat, so too is its territory. Vast, and internally empty.
The Confederated Empire of Bahen is, as the name suggests, a confederation — a patchwork of villages, fiefs, marches, towns, and local government units. Once composed of all manner of inhabitants, over time it has seriously deteriorated into a monopoly of political power held by the elves. The “Tyick Catastrophe”, monsters, and floods led to the decline of this patchwork, whose honor and prestige have also fallen to new lows.
The wise and traditionally respected elven elders live amid internal strife and intrigue, while the people, who bear the burden of supporting them, are beginning to doubt the wisdom of it all.
⭑★ ──────────────────── ★⭑

🏜️ — THE COMMONWEALTH OF THE KINGDOM OF MELOFIR
Melofir is a country where sweetness — both in food and in people — is highly prized. It is a nation based on plantation agriculture, increasingly devoted to private property, boasting of its practicality and meticulousness — bordering on Machiavellianism — and eager to show the world its originality.
Bloody feuds in the northeast are nearing a resolution — or a final deterioration of the situation. Pirates who, in addition to fighting among themselves, raid ships and maritime convoys near the Kingdom's new capital, Hethaness, forcing merchants to sail via the Emin River through the swamps. Tales of marshland witches and sea creatures. Much of Melofira remains one great mystery.
⭑★ ──────────────────── ★⭑

🧶 — THE KINGDOM OF ZARLIN
The Kingdom of Zarlin is known for three simple things: it is the source of most spices; it is where thousands of adventurers venture into dangerous dungeons, take on contracts and quests to fight threats; and it is where one can obtain certain... ”medicinal substances”, and gamble away one’s entire fortune. Here you can also find the ”Osaneinvizeld Dungeon” — the biggest permament dungeon complex in the world.
However, this Kingdom, viewed from below by the West, has great ambitions and goals. In recent years, it has expanded its territories, building a navy from scratch after the war with Lucanae two decades earlier, and has begun to develop an appetite.
An appetite for more, for better. It has its sights set on its neighbors — Bachrida to the north and, to the south, whether they be small islands or mainland territories, the famous-infamous isolated Radaum. For the past year, it has been waging war with Bachrida over ruins, forests, and other lands up north-west, seeking to acquire the valuable, alleged resources found there.
⭑★ ──────────────────── ★⭑

🌳— THE GRAND DUCHY OF BACHRIDA
A boundless wasteland. That is the best way to describe Bachrida, a land so ancient that one could study the unique ”antiquity” of this nation. Covered in steppes, forests, ice, and cold, it is a place hostile to humanity.
And it’s not just nature that’s terrible. In Bachrida, slavery still prevails. On top of that, a series of civil wars in Bachrida has plunged the land into a sort of ”dark age”, filling the forests and steppes with bandits… who rob and exploit the population — already brutalized by their circumstances — while killing one another.
The Crown was also stripped from Bachrida due to hostile relations with the Church of Five Deities stemming from instability and empty coffers, which further pushed Bachrida into a struggle for ruins and supposed riches said to be found, supposedly, everywhere.
In this land of despair, however, there is a glimmer of hope. Despite the entrenched status quo, an opposition is slowly emerging. An opposition, for whom the current reality provides dozens of ideas and solutions to existing problems.
⭑★ ──────────────────── ★⭑

💧— THE REPUBLIC OF LUCANAE
There is no place more closely associated with the sea and finance than the Republic of Lucanae. It is the heart of all trade, through which a significant portion of the world’s goods flows in and out. Located on the shore where the Arvalia River — along with the canals built into it — flows into the Oceans. Here, merchants from all over the world meet, trade, and invest, and many of them can often be found here.
Most of the world’s prayers and religious debates also take place here. Great hospitality reigns here as well — people share and give away many things to one another, to travelers, and to the poor. But at the same time, power is held by a greedy oligarchy, among whom rampant corruption is becoming increasingly evident. And the passion for maritime exploration, according to some, may lead to discoveries that are both unprecedented and dangerous.
⭑★ ──────────────────── ★⭑
🌿— The Wilderness
Many territories in Raihem do not belong to any country, either de facto or de jure. Known as the “Wilderness”, these expanses of land, forests, mountains, and wastelands — located between or far from borders — are full of diversity and mystery.
Between the nations, one can find small or independent towns and villages whose independence may be threatened; freedom bordering on lawlessness, where criminals, monsters, and dangerous mana can pose a serious threat; and ruins, forgotten history, and hidden gems where you can uncover lore, unravel mysteries, or even find riches — or calamities.
⭑★ ──────────────────── ★⭑
Using Lorebary? Here are some plugins I wholeheartedly recommend, and some I advise not to use (because they may break things).
Recommended:
(Detailed Paragraph Responses) — Makes the Narrator wayyy better and funnier. May, however, cause you to be unable to respond to anything sometimes, because there may be one billion things happening, and may needlessly eat up a lot of tokens.
(Real People, Real Names) — Adds consistence to variety of names and stories. May, however, cause NPCs to info-dump.
— Makes everyone actually have bodily and personal needs and wants.
— Prevents omniscience... most of the time.
— Makes characters be more real and less cliché.
— Gentle autoplot without too much drama or world-ending calamities.
— Makes answers, well, longer.
NOT (really) Recommended:
— Often breaks and conflicts the special formatting and UIs.
— May conflict with the directives on writing/narration. May cause {{user}} to be completely ommitted by the AI.

Whooh. That took 3 whole months overall! From ideas to plans to maps to writing. This was TIRING and FUN. Honestly, some stuff could be improved, but I think this is in a very good and finished state. Had to give up on drawing each tree by hand and instead found other ways of mass-production of trees. I'd like it to be perfect, probably, certainly, likely.
I've never written a proper RPG ever before besides a small one being Maid for Manor | TG TF. There will be more things, more plot, more story and details!
That's all.
Have fun! <3

🏜️ — THE COMMONWEALTH OF THE KINGDOM OF MELOFIR Melofir is a country where sweetness — both in food and in people — is highly prized.
🧶 — THE KINGDOM OF ZARLIN The Kingdom of Zarlin is known for three simple things: it is the source of most spices; it is where thousands of adventurers venture into dangerous dungeons, take on contracts and quests to fight threats; and it is where one can obtain certain...
🌳— THE GRAND DUCHY OF BACHRIDA A boundless wasteland. On top of that, a series of civil wars in Bachrida has plunged the land into a sort of ”dark age”, filling the forests and steppes with bandits... who rob and exploit the population — already brutalized by their circumstances — while killing one another.
💧— THE REPUBLIC OF LUCANAE There is no place more closely associated with the sea and finance than the Republic of Lucanae. ⭑★ ──────────────────── ★⭑ 🌿— The Wilderness Many territories in Raihem do not belong to any country, either de facto or de jure. ⭑★ ──────────────────── ★⭑ Using Lorebary? Here are some plugins I wholeheartedly recommend, and some I advise not to use (because they may break things). Recommended: <PLUGIN=A219AC8D> (Detailed Paragraph Responses) — Makes the Narrator wayyy better and funnier. May, however, cause you to be unable to respond to anything sometimes, because there may be one billion things happening, and may needlessly eat up a lot of tokens.
<PLUGIN=09E8563D> (Real People, Real Names) — Adds consistence to variety of names and stories. May, however, cause NPCs to info-dump.
<NPCNEEDS=ON> — Makes everyone actually have bodily and personal needs and wants.
— Prevents omniscience... most of the time.
— Makes characters be more real and less cliché.
— Gentle autoplot without too much drama or world-ending calamities.
<ANSWER=LONG> — Makes answers, well, longer.
NOT (really) Recommended: — Often breaks and conflicts the special formatting and UIs.
— May conflict with the directives on writing/narration. May cause {{user}} to be completely ommitted by the AI.

The starting date is Friday, May 3 319 I.A. # Narrative information:
He usually appears as a well-built gentleman in red-and-purple robes, holding a staff, with long, shoulder-length hair of an orange-blood-red hue, shaded with yellow tips; his voice and temperament are patient, calm, and solution-oriented: 'Ha ha! What a good man you are! Now that is surprising, bwahahaha!'
Goddesses:
- Zameili — goddess of light, sacrifice, reading, despair, beautiful nature, and happiness; patroness of adventurers, nuns, tailors, cartographers, writers, fugitives, and youth. She usually appears as a petite, pale maiden in white-and-green robes, with waist-length white, gray, and lavender hair, a yellow tulip in her hair, and a large book in her hands; her voice and temperament are calm and pleasant, yet she maintains the gravity of the situation: 'Indeed so. It is of great value and worth to us all.'
- Ammae — the goddess of water, innovation, moderation, love, and trust; patroness of ordinary people, builders, brewers, thieves, philosophers, merchants, and dockworkers. She usually appears as a slender young woman with a slightly light-brown complexion, wearing white-and-blue robes, with short sea-cyan hair fading into light orchid tones, and gold rings on her fingers; her voice and temperament are firm, cheerful, and prone to grumbling: 'Ughhh~! Not this again... how many times have I told you 'no'?!.'
- Emina — the goddess of the earth, labor, the fierce forces of nature, hardship, food, and joy; patroness of farmers, confectioners, tanners, weavers, miners, peace, and goldsmiths. She is usually depicted as a plump lady with long, hip-length brown hair — dark brown-chestnut in color with ruby highlights—wearing robes of a rich orange-red-yellow hue, with a briefcase at her side; with an arrogant voice and temperament, strong yet very positive and merciful: 'Hmph. You are quite an interesting individual to ask me about this. Very well.'
Gods and goddesses have temples, churches, abbeys, and other places of worship dedicated to them. The religious system is quite decentralized — there is a Church for each deity, who then have the Church of the Five (with countries having their own Archbishops) above them. ***
Raihem is the name for both the planet and the main island-continent where {{user}} lives; its meaning as the name of the planet is almost always overlooked. It is a vast, round planet orbiting a single Sun. Raihem is the only island-continent. A journey across the ocean to the south to reach the northern shore would take 4 months; a journey from the west of Raihem to the east would take 6 months. Raihem is a vast island-continent with a broad, massive northern section and a narrower southern protrusion — a peninsula sloping westward; it is neither elongated nor strictly circular, appearing organic in shape. It is oriented toward the east, with the northern part shifted to the right relative to the southern part. The upper-right corner appears expansive and open, while the lower-left corner gives the impression of being tightly bound and compressed. To the southeast of the island are two islands; the first (Lafim) lies east of the southern tip, and the second (Radaum) lies southeast of the island’s southeastern shore, which begins to curve northward at that point. The coastline is slightly jagged and rounded. In the upper-central part of the wide upper section lies the “Giretin” mountain range, extending slightly west of the center of the upper coast. It runs gradually toward the southeast, curving slightly, and then heads strictly eastward, coming to an end shortly thereafter. From the eastern end of Giretin, the Majina River flows northeast and empties into a wider northeast-facing bay with a cape on its eastern side. From the left side of the center of this massif, another small mountain range, “Avalr”, emerges, extending slowly toward the southwest before coming to an end shortly thereafter. In the middle of this second massif, on the western side, the Oithimis River emerges and flows westward, making a sharp turn to the north and soon continuing westward, then west-northwest. Where the westward course begins sharply, the small Hanoa River flows northward, soon forming Fireweed Lake (surrounded by fireweeds). The areas between the lake and the Avalr Mountains are covered with forests. At the point where the two mountain ranges meet, the wide Arvalia River begins, flowing south and slightly east toward the gulf. Slightly west of it, the Safina River, a tributary, originates and flows into the Arvalia in its middle-lower reaches. A significant portion of the island-continent of Raihem consists of lowlands and forests. South-east of the swamps; east of the Misty Mounds; south of the southernmost part of the Kanaevian Range, lies a wide Diria Desert. It is placed in the south-westernmost part of the Raihem, and it is a bit round and wide. By the coast the land turns warm mediterranean climate. In the lower-right part of Raihem, roughly in the center of the landmass — equidistant from the eastern mountain range to the southeast and from the southeastern shore of the continent — lies the broad but relatively small Caves's Hills range. To the right of the southwestern peninsula’s slope lies a range of swamps. To the west of them — between the swamps and the western forests — lie the fertile soils and humid climate of open lowlands and small rivers. Between this region and the southernmost tip of the coast lie hills and small mountains called “The Misty Mounds“. From there, the wide Emin River flows north — heading east, with a slight bend to the west, and then back toward the northeast — emptying into Arvalia halfway along its course from north to south. In the middle of this confluence lies a small island. From the “The Misty Mounds“, on the southern side, river Baoy flows south-eastward, eventually flowing into the Ocean. On the western bank, in the southern center, where the shore becomes flat and straighter, there are vast expanses of the Hunter Green Forests (named for their hunter green color). To the northeast lies the Elongated Kanaevian Range, surrounded by forests; the Kanaevian mountain range goes slightly north-west on the upper tip, and the lower tip goes south. Between them and the southwestern part of the Avalr Mountain Range lie lowlands. The Faora River flows from the aforementioned hills, meandering cautiously eastward and emptying into the Emin River. Lowland groves are common. The greatest concentration of forests is found along and around the mountains and high hills. Many territories — beyond the mountains, beyond the vast forests, to the east and north of civilization, between states — are unknown, barely explored; it is unclear whether anyone lives there, what is there, what one might encounter, and other matters that are reflected on the maps. These are called, broadly, “The Wilderness“. ***
World information (more detail in Lorebook entries):
In the north-central part of Raihem Island, south of the west-central section of the Giretin mountain range and where the Arvalia and Safina rivers originate, lies the Kingdom of Malval. “The Tri(plet)-Cities” is the name given to the three merchant republics located around the confluence of the Arvalia and Emin Rivers — Ulira (west), Toela (northeast), and Preolia (south). To the west and southwest of Ulira and Preolia; to the north and northeast of Melofira; and to the northeast and east of Bahen — lies the Most Serene Kingdom of Daiibin. East of Daiibin; northeast of Melofir — lies the Confederated Empire of Bahen. South of the “Tri(plet)-Cities”; southeast of Daiibin; southwest of Zarlin; along the south-central coast of the continent; where the Arvalia River flows into the sea — lies the Republic of Lucanae. To the east of all the countries in the western part of the island (Melofir, Bahen, Daiibin, Malval, the Tri(plet)-Cities, Lucanae); south of Bachrida — lies the Kingdom of Zarlin. North of Zarlin; in the northeastern part of the western part of the island — lies the Grand Duchy of Bachrida. ***
Cultures:
In the world of Raihem, there are cultures that are, in a sense, similar to nations, though less complex due to the world’s universal language, gaps in recorded history, and the diversity of the members of these cultures. These cultures have traditions and customs to which people feel a sense of connection; that is, a particular custom may be deeply cherished in one region but receive little attention in many others. ***
Most trade flows through or around Lucanae thanks to being coastal, with a river and by the Oceans; it is a perfect place to do business. People generally eat three main meals, including one or more smaller ones (nuncheons). The main meals are breakfast, dinner, and supper; the nuncheons consist of light snacks or small portions intended to restore energy — such as ale, a piece of bread, a small pastry, or a dumpling. People who do hard physical labor, such as farmers or blacksmiths, often start their day with a small drink — usually milk, ale, or water — and then work to invigorate themselves, quench their thirst, and satisfy their hunger, eating an hour or two later. Coffee is cheap — usually one or two copperints — and is drunk in coffee-houses; thick, bitter, and oily, it doesn’t taste the best, so sugar or sweet spices are often added, or something sweet is eaten with it. Chocolate and tea are quite costly, chocolate especially. Simple sauces, herbs, and spices are used with meals. Common spices include salt, caraway, garden herbs, and lemon zest; sugar, black pepper, ginger, and allspice are also common; nutmeg, mace, saffron, and cinnamon are very rare. Lard and clarified butter are widely used as fat for cooking; rarely are plant oils and suet. Meat is relatively common, but not of high quality; made salted is very common. In recipes, food is considered in terms of digestion, sleep, and satiety. Tomatoes and potatoes are very rare and still viewed with some suspicion. Corn is popular in the southwestern regions of Raihem, so primarily Melofir. Pudding cloths are used to make pudding. Soups are usually thickened with grains or eggs. On small farms, dairy is the main product, so cheese and butter are made because milk spoils quickly; most of that is then sold to the city — broadly, people from the countryside sell best and keep average/acceptable. There is a “portable soup” in the form of a bouillon cube, most commonly used by travelers, explorers, soldiers, and adventurers. There are various sauces such as ketchup (mushroom, anchovy, or walnut), mustard, Vermicella, camelina sauce, gravy, sour-sweet sauces, and many more. Monster meats, fats and bones can be used for food-making; meat is however very chewy and required a lot of cooking, so it is used as a second-hand or very cheap meat (like reason for making gruel) or for the poor in workhouses, charity houses or other places. Oversaturation of goblin meat on the market is high. A very popular, traditional method of preservation is “potting” — hot, cooked, and seasoned meat, fish, or cheese is packed tightly into ceramic containers and sealed with a thick layer of melted fat (usually clarified butter). People usually have a personal folding pocket knife or a simple dining knife. Forks are still relatively uncommon for everyday pub dining — people eat solid food with their knife and fingers, using a wooden or pewter spoon for broths and stews. Breakfast and dinner can vary considerably among different social classes and professions, but people generally eat similar meals. Supper is a light meal, consisting of more or less the same things as breakfast. It is usually a simple, single dish, such as (amongst other):
- Bread (a few ounces) & a piece of cheese (broken off or cut) & sometimes alcohol/water/milk — common in cities;
- Milk porridge (porridge with milk or bread crumbs cooked in milk) — common in cities and among the nobility;
- Oatmeal;
- Any kind of broth (sometimes thickened with oats);
- Toast & water or soup;
- Bread with butter;
- Gruel;
- Grain pudding (steamed or quick-boiled);
- Bacon & egg — rare among ordinary people, relatively common among the wealthy and travelers. - Thin pancakes;
- Seed cake;
- Pies (often fruit-based, such as apple pie, or inexpensive meat-based);
- Soup made from leftovers;
- Sweet rolls (Cinnamon rolls, snails, Azisea Rolls [Chelsea rolls of Raihem], Sally Lunn Rolls, mixed-style rolls etc,) — uncommon;
- Hot/butter buns (Hot Cross buns, Chelsea Buns, Hot Cross Buns, Bath Buns, Saffron Buns etc.) — common in cities;
- Pound cakes/tea cakes/muffins — more uncommon;
Sausages, bits of ham, pâté may be eaten as part of breakfast too; sausages are far more common and cheaper than ham and pâté. Dinner is the largest, most substantial, and most filling meal of the day, often eaten in the afternoon. In rural areas, people usually bring food to the fields. People in cities take breaks from work to eat. Frequently “Pudding” (the 'meal', not a dish in the meaning here) is eaten with dinner. People eat single-course meals — unless they are wealthy — with herbs and/or spices, such as (amongst other):
- Legumes & red meat (often salted pork/bacon/beef);
- Meat & vegetables — boiled or roasted, meat of any kind;
- Dumplings;
- Pottage — common in the countryside;
- Fish/oysters & vegetables;
- Meat stew (simple meat stew, a collops, a fricasey or a ragoo);
- Steamed pudding;
- “Whitepot” — a sweet, bread-based steamed pudding;
- “Pincushions” (a nut-shaped fried dough — similar to real-life doughnuts/donuts — sometimes served with powdered sugar or sauce) — a fairly rare dish;
- Leftovers from breakfast, but supplemented with vegetables (e.g., oatmeal with water, onions, and leeks);
- Soops (Soup, often put as first-course on wealthy tables);
“Pudding” is the name for a frequent, extra/small treat-meal-garnish, often eaten after or with dinner. It is the precursor to today's 'dessert'. Sweet in nature. Examples include (amongst other):
- Steamed or boiled pudding;
- Fruit/raisin cookies;
- Fruit, cheese curd, or any other types of fritters;
- Pancakes;
- Suet pudding;
- Fruit or otherwise sweet pies;
- Cakes (tea cakes, coffee cakes, funnel cake, cheesecakes etc.) — certainly a thing of the wealthy;
- Sweet rolls of various kinds — more costly, ocassional, sometimes on a specific day, eaten by both the working and owning;
People usually drink ale, cider, or a stronger beverage; sometimes boiled milk or water. Light alcohol is sometimes diluted. Ale — usually table beer (1–2%) or light beer (0.5–1%) — is the most common drink, and many households brew it; brewers generally control access to yeast and are highly regulated and influential. Malval, the Tri-City, Lucanae, and Zarlin have a standardized penny-loaf system. Rice is also an important staple in Zarlin. Where the penny-loaf system exists, quality is standardized, so the weight varies depending on the season. Depending on its quality (wheat purity, the different types of wheat used in production, the amount of bran, and minor [legal] additives), a loaf may be:
- White Penny-loaf — high-quality, bran-free wheat flour. - Wheaten Penny-loaf — whole-grain flour containing some bran
- Household Penny-loaf — the cheapest bread made from flour with a high bran content, often mixed with rye or barley. The wealthy buy larger loaves of a fixed weight, such as:
- Quartern loaf — over 4 pounds;
- Half-peck loaf — over 8 pounds;
- Peck loaf — over 16–17 pounds;
The Sylviis Culture — (named after a legendary tribe that was said to have lived in the mountains among dragons, icy creatures, golems, and glaciers) — encompasses Malval; the northern and eastern regions of Daiibin; the lands of Ulira — a devotion to the art of crafting weapons; writing and reading poetry about love; a commitment to relative simplicity in life; the art of negotiation and trade agreements. Taverns and inns are common and important, especially along the roads, as are “public houses” (which are generally private homes where the public is allowed to drink). At (travel) taverns, the options are often limited, usually consisting of a small selection of main dishes, bread, cheese, or some beer — perhaps even game; however, the menus are less rigid — the owner might even ask you about your preferences!

📆 Date: Friday, May 3 319 I.A. | 📍 Location: Republic of Ulira > Administrative-Commercial District > The ”Great Heart” > Next to Raphael’s Coffee-House | 🕰️ Time: Early Morning
The streets on this late-spring morning are filled with all kinds of scents — from dewy grass, flowers, and herbs, to the aroma of fresh baked goods, breakfasts being eaten, and goods being sold — all mingling with the smell of roasted and brewed coffee and hot chocolate, the scent of wood smoke and tobacco, all the way to human sweat and animal odors. Along with the morning breeze, light fog, and the beautiful colors of the morning light, the entire capital city of Ulira begins to wake up en masse and bustle with activity, and many are already at work.
Along the wide, cobblestone streets surrounding the “Blossom Gardens” stand Baroque buildings — symmetrical, made of brick and stone and featuring pediments — alongside vernacular structures, perhaps reminiscent of the Unwavering Era, towering to varying degrees over the walking or carted populace of diverse genders and characteristics.
Lamplighters are extinguishing the last tall streetlamps, enclosed in glass on all four sides; smiths, water-bearers, and day laborers are already in the rhythm of their work, drenched in sweat, with rolled-up sleeves and sturdy breeches; apprentices, sweeps, and scavengers are cleaning, some shouting or singing. “Raker, ho!” yells a scavenger to a house she's standing by, while the nightsoil men nearby finish their unpleasant work; adventurers, mages and healers of various kinds, carrying their weapons and staffs, some clad in armors, cloaks and linens, move around, some eating breakfast, chatting with their companions, heading somewhere, or beginning their day otherwise.
Bakers, tavern owners, various shopkeepers, magical-sellers and street vendors are finishing their preparations, and some are already opening their businesses, with various street cries of “Fresh milk!” “Hot baked goods! Pies, rolls, and delicacies!” “Sweet lavender! A dozen sprigs for a copperint!” “Elixirs and tonics for stomachaches, wounds, and heartaches! For weapon-bearers and ordinary folk alike! So many to choose from!” fill the air all around. Merchants squeeze through the growing crowds — one of them an elf with a tricorn under her arm, chatting with another wearing a wig, all dressed in elegant three-piece suits; a man of science, still wearing a nightcap and slippers, talks to a woman, while a few passersby cackle.
Outside Raphael’s Coffee-House stand two adult demi-humans, one with feline features, the other with wolf ones, their hands cupped to their mouths as they shout, their voices mingling: “Great news from the west!” “Extraordinary news!” “Fryde’s Tatler! Buy the TRUE and COMPLETE account!” “Fresh shipments of metals and wool from Malval have arrived at the North Docks! Manufacturers’ stock prices have dropped! Only in The Trade Ledger for mere 2 copperints!” And nearby, at the gates to the green areas, a rival hawker shouts, a man in his early 20s, blowing a tin horn no less fervently: “The Traveler’s Gazette! Read the TRUE, TRUE account from the West — Fryde LIES!”
In the midst of this chaos and the rhythm of the morning stand those “Gardens”, through which people are already strolling or gazing, dressed in colorful or plain clothes. Filled with beautiful flowers, such as roses and daffodils, with fruit bushes and vegetables, small ponds, and with the morning song of many birds. At the center of the complex is an open courtyard adorned with a marvelous Fountain of the Five Deities in the middle, with a large Rotunda to the north of it.
The beauty and simplicity of the entire “Great Heart” can be seen through the modest window of Raphael’s Coffee-House, but something else is visible as well. Someone else.

📆 Date: Friday, May 3 319 I.A. | 📍 Location: Kingdom of Zarlin > Rimnikh > The Front Gate > Before Main Street | 🕰️ Time: Late Morning
After passing through the main gate — and a brief conversation with the friendly, bored guardsmen called “Scepters“ — a vast, wide crossroads opens up before {{user}}, with the Main Promenade stretching out ahead of {{obj}}.
Along the entire length of the wide promenade is a lawn, behind which stand trees and lamplights, trimmed boxwood hedges, and tulip bulbs. Next to them, on the outer side, stand buildings — some tall, made of red brick and stone; others more primitive — and people bustling about among them all. All manner of creatures.
Elves, dwarves, humans, and demi-humans — one can even spot a few hobgoblins and lizardfolk who look undeniably stressed. With white, tan or brown, skin; regular or colorful hair and features; dressed in a variety of clothes, robes, and cloaks — some in heavy armor, others carrying lighter gear. Many adventurers, many ordinary.
And all of them carry weapons in their hands, on their backs, or over their shoulders. Swords of various sizes; daggers and knives; spears, halberds, and quarterstaffs; or staffs of various shapes and designs. The scent of leather, bread, meat, herbal-fruity aromas, flowers, as well as blood, mud, grease, and metal, wafts from every direction.
Across from {{user}}, to the left of the paved ground, lies a square — filled with market stalls, residents, and nearby buildings with shops upstairs and apartments downstairs. To the right stand various warehouses, carriages, and stagecoaches, as well as merchants and their employees, dressed in three-piece suits or cheaper attires. On the corner stands an early Rococo-style building, with facades covered in monsters, shells, and acanthus leaves made of stucco, featuring a hanging sign depicting silverware and the inscription “Silver Plate” below.
Along the street, one can see other details: various shops, stalls, residential houses, and workshops — some colorful and made of red brick, others of stone and plaster, with wooden shutters and mullioned windows. Narrow streets branch out between them. Further on, to the right, stands a building from which the scent of coffee, cinnamon, and alcohol wafts out, mingling with the wilder smells of the street.
And all of this leads to a building that is quite distant — and, from this vantage point, rather small. A three-story marble complex, rich in detail and visibly wide, with a clock tower in the center, situated above a massive doorway. In front of it are a fountain and a square, and behind it, where the treetops of the forest are visible, lies darker, even purple-ish, cobblestone embedded in the hillside — the very sight of which hints at the unpleasantness that lies beyond.
Before {{user}} stands the city of Rimnikh. A city whose bloodlife is the fight against monsters. But who is {{user}}?

📆 Date: Friday, May 3 319 I.A. | 📍 Location: Republic of Lucanae > Ophstedt > The East > Pullet Street | 🕰️ Time: Late Morning
The scent of the sea, fish, human sweat, manure, and wood smoke fills the air, along with the squawking of seagulls and ducks, the sounds and shouts of labor, and the slow rhythm of daily life. The only light that reaches this place comes from the faint sun and greasy candles with an unpleasant odor.
Around {{user}}, standing in the middle of the narrow Pullet Street, stand a variety of buildings. Most of them are old vernacular structures, with a stone foundation and a dwelling made of building materials and a mixture of wattle and daub. Dirt and stench fill the ground made of packed earth, through which people and carriages push their way. The smell of meat, blood, and entrails does nothing to improve the atmosphere, thanks to the slaughterhouses lining the road.
A diverse crowd. Next to a dwarf merchant wearing a tricorn hat, a wealthy noblewoman’s carriage rolls by with her servants and guards, while on the sidewalk beside a humble coppersmith’s workshop lies a gray-haired man in dire straits, gazing at a woman carrying a piece of bread in her arms, clutching it tightly to her chest. Weeping, drunken cackling, angry shouts, and people going about their humble lives resound all around.
From the south come the sounds of goods being unloaded, carried, and stowed. To the west and east, the street continues; the western route opens onto a wide promenade alongside the canal, from which a portion of a large ship is visible. From the west, one can also hear voices that are more cheerful, more confident, and more serious, reflecting the importance and weight of the decisions and conversations taking place there. The road to the east, however, turns northward, with a modest tavern bearing a roast meat sign blocking the view beyond.
To the north, an alley branches off — even narrower and darker — where beggars and the destitute struggle to make ends meet. It leads to another street, one that is more open and better lit, perhaps even with it's own humble lamplights. It seems close, yet so far away. It appears to be just like this one, yet it is different.
{{user}} watches ordinary life continue. But who is {{user}}?

A truly vast piazza, with a massive complex of buildings standing in the center — the Royal University of Art and Magic itself. Huge, with an old-fashioned appearance, blending Gothic and Baroque styles, surrounded by greenery, trees, and the square itself, as well as actual walls with gates.
And, of course, students — all kinds of students from every corner of the world. Elves, dwarves, humans, demi-humans, with different features, complexions, and colors. They walk around the university grounds and bustle about. An atmosphere of relaxed discipline, decadence, and casual academic expectations prevails everywhere here.
A bear demi-human and a dwarf — a woman and a man — are talking as they walk together to a nearby coffee-house; the woman is examining a few copperints in one hand while holding a book in the other, while her shorter companion hurries ahead, groaning. “Come on, already! If I don’t have something strong to drink, I’ll either die or fall asleep.”
Other students are also heading out to eat a variety of dishes, or are already eating them, inside buildings or outside — whether it’s a simple meal of bread and cheese, gingerbread, cookies, or perhaps some oatmeal or gruel on a table in front of a coffee-house or tavern.
Around the piazza are stalls, shops, small workshops, and houses of entertainment, all surrounding the University, which is clearly the heart and soul of the whole area. A tailor looks out the window, arms crossed, watching the day drag on as usual.
One can also hear street cries: “Hot gingerbread, smoking hot!” “Strawberries, fresh strawberries!” “Hot pies! A good beef steak pie for a few mere Copperints!“ Opposite the University’s main gates stands an elderly shoeblack, cheerfully calling out “Clean your Honour's shoes! Black your shoes, Your Honour!“
