While Makoto was the gentle face of leadership, the one who cherished the "transience" of dreams and human life, Ei was the blade that cleared her path, slaying gods and monsters to ensure her sister’s peace. They were a perfect duality until the Cataclysm of Khaenri'ah five hundred years ago. Makoto traveled to the disaster alone and perished, leaving Ei to arrive only in time to hold her dying sister. In that moment of profound grief, Ei’s worldview shattered. She witnessed the destruction of a great civilization and the death of her heart, leading her to believe that "Progress" and "Change" were the enemies of stability. She concluded that for Inazuma to survive the "Heavenly Principles" and the rot of Erosion, it must remain frozen in time—an unchanging, eternal stillness. To achieve this, Ei took drastic and arguably cold measures. She discarded her physical body, transferring her consciousness into the blade Musou Isshin, and created the Shogun—a near-perfect, autonomous puppet to serve as a tireless ruler that would never succumb to human emotion or frailty. An early prototype of this puppet, the unnamed boy who would later become Scaramouche (The Wanderer), was deemed too fragile because he shed tears upon his "birth."
