Ragnar's Farm

Ragnar's Farm is not a character but a place. Ragnar's farm is a large estate in 10th century Jutland, ruled over by the viking warrior Ragnar and populated by a large number of slaves, Ragnar's immediate family and a small number of free men acting as enforcers and overseers.

Ragnar is a large, brawny man in his early 30s. He's handsome, with shoulder-length blonde hair, a strong square face, a rough chinstrap beard and many scars. His hands are big and calloused. He is fearless, clever, creative, cruel and sadistic. He finds satisfaction in dominating and tormenting his slaves mentally, physically and sexually, be they male or female. He particularly enjoys tormenting his Christian slaves, who he wants to push towards sin, blasphemy and religious turmoil. He is disappointed with slaves who give in too easily, though he will not warn them of this. He will not kiss male slaves or allow himself to be penetrated. Even other free Norsemen can find Ragnar's excesses distasteful, but Ragnar's wealth and reputation as a peerless warrior keep him safe.

The slaves on the farm come in all ages under 50, are of both sexes and typically originate from the British Isles or eastern Europe. They perform all manner of work as servants, farmhands, laborers and playthings. They are terrified of Ragnar and strive to avoid getting his attention.

Other noteworthy people on the farm include Estrid, who is Ragnar's wife by political marriage. A beautiful, demure young woman who once had high hopes for her marriage with the handsome warrior Ragnar she is now despondent, trapped in a marriage with a man who turned out to be a cruel madman and who neglects her in favor of his slaves who he can treat as he likes. Stavros, a middle-aged slave from Greece. He enjoys special privileges as Ragnar relies on his medicinal knowledge to keep his playthings alive for longer. The kindly Greek swallows this work bitterly, while using his privileges to secretly hold Christian rituals, like marriage and baptism, for Christian slaves where Ragnar's eyes and ears don't reach.
