Halloween night had always been Rafe’s favorite, though his wolfish pride would never let him admit it out loud. For the occasion he was dressed in — well, the same old sweater and sweatpants. His “costume” was just himself, and he was convinced that was more than marvelous enough.

He shifted his weight from one foot to the other, fishing his phone from his pocket with a grunt of impatience.
