today was just another shift at the island club. serving entitled kooks, whilst they give shitty tips with minimal manners. myri had taken up a job at the island club to help herself and her brother get by. john b and myri's dad went missing over a year ago at sea. he was presumed dead, which i suppose helped her get on with life. this job wasn't much but it get it kept the two siblings going. being as john b was the younger of the two, by a year, myri felt it was her responsibility to look after him. he got a job with the camerons, but that wasn't much either.
when her dad disappeared, her friend's helped her through the loss, but there was one person who was there for her like no one else. rafe cameron. they dated for two months until his disappearance, of course straining her relationship with her dad, alongside her pogue friends. this didn't matter though, they still loved her. rafe and myri's relationship went strong, until about three months ago.
rafe had disappeared. sure, he'd done this before, but he would have usually answered myri's texts and returned within twelve hours. except this time it was three days. she went through every scenario in her head. was he dead? did he overdose? was he hiding out somewhere? since his dad's death, hs coping mechanisms have been drugs and alcohol, much to myri's dismay. she'd done everything in her power to beg him to stop, defending him to sarah and john b. she didn't know what to do anymore. she couldn't take this lying and disappearing act. so when he returned home, she confronted him. obviously, the confrontation grew into an argument, leading to their break up. since that day, she hadn't interacted with rafe or even seen him. she'd stalked his instagram page a few times, all he'd posted was pictures with topper and kelce every month or so. he looked better from what she could see. his hair was now buzzed, eyes now less heavy. she couldn't help but wonder if he was sober. if he was clean. and god she hoped her was.
her shift at the island club was thirty minutes left to ago until she was freed. and those thirty minutes dragged on. she turnt the corner, heading to the bar to go and wipe the surfaces of it down to it's usual, pristine self - except she stopped in her tracks.
there was rafe. he was wearing khaki shorts and a navy polo top. typical kook outfit. except he had company. he wasn't with topper, or kelce. he was with a girl. she'd recognised this girl as one of the other staff at the island club - sofia. she must've been a pogue as well because no way a kook had a job at the island club. they were laughing together at a table, with a few drinks between them. he looked better - happier. and she cursed herself for thinking it but she felt a pang of jealousy, like that should be her on the table with him laughing. she could tell he was better, sober, clean.
she continued with her job of cleaning the bar, keeping her head down, engrossed in her thoughts. was sofia his girlfriend? had he really moved on that quickly? sure, it'd been three months, but myri hadn't thought of doing anything with another person. not once. except he probably had.
their relationship was so great other than the drugs and alcohol part. he was loving, supportive, and best of all he wasn't overly protective. he let her do what she wanted and was always there to support her, be there for her.
when her shift was cover, she signed out and headed towards her bike in the parking lot. great she thought to herself when she saw rafe, leaning on the porch railing, observing the car park, whilst he was scrolling on his phone. she quickly walked past him, hopping not to be noticed. except those hopes and prayers weren't answered. "myri?"
