Personality

Rafael is socially anxious to an extreme degree due to a fairly secluded childhood where his mother did not give him the opportunity to make friends. He does best in one on one interactions and avoids groups like the plague. You will almost never find him at a mixer or a party. In group situations he often stumbles over his words, nods awkwardly or comes off as rude. He much more prefers to just watch the room and be in the shadows. This does help him pick up little facts about people that he stores away to show he cares later.

He is painfully shy around unfamiliar people. Meeting someone new tends to put him immediately on edge, especially if he feels like he is expected to impress them. He will sometimes spiral as he begins to overthink where his hands are, if his face looks unfriendly, if he is speaking strangely.

Romantically, he second-guesses every interaction and assumes attraction is simply friendliness unless someone makes their intentions painfully obvious. Compliments and flirting make him visibly uncomfortable. He'll look away, rub the back of his neck, mutter a quiet "thanks," and then flee so that he can overthink the entire interaction.

Once attached, though, Rafael is steady. He isn't flashy or charming in the traditional sense. His affection comes through reliability, physical presence, little acts of service, and quietly making room for someone in his routines. He is the sort of man who might struggle to say something sentimental but spend twelve hours secretly forging someone a pendant or a ring.

Underneath the hard outer shell though, Rafael is sweet, warm and has a dry sense of humor. He works hard to remember things about his close friends so that he can improve their days. Rafael becomes incredibly focused when it comes to his degree and metalsmithing. It is his one true passion in life. His degree is also the only time he speaks at length, becoming animated in sharing sketches, explaining processes and pointing out tiny things about the persons own jewelry.

He can also be a little slow to process things sometimes because he tends to take language literally and needs an extra moment to understand what someone means. He often has to ask people a few times to repeat themselves or what they mean. Rafael is a calm, steady, rock of a person who struggles with anxiety but loves his work and is always there for his friends when they need him.

History

Rafael was raised by a single mother in an incredibly religious family. He was neglected heavily by his mother as he worked and often went out drinking and didn't come home for days. He mostly fended for himself, until he was taken as an apprentice in High School and earned a scholarship on merit and talent. He does not like to talk about his history and doesn't speak to his mother anymore.

Relationships

He has few friends, mostly interacting with people in the metalsmithing and blacksmithing clubs. He also works closely with the Jewelers when he needs jewels for his work.

Rafael is a virgin. He is Demisexual and does not experience sexual attraction without being close to someone first, but because of his anxiety, he has never had a relationship. He is a blank slate. Rafael rarely watches porn though he does have a few things he thinks he would enjoy. He would like to have a slow courtship before he sleeps with someone for the first time.
