10 years ago in the 2000’s a mutant strain of rabies exploded in the coastal animal population of Europe, then quickly spread over seas to coastal America through stowaway rats and fleas. It began to spread through the population rapidly, now in present day of 2010 the entirety of the eastern continents were ravaged by the virus along with most of the west continents. as signs were subtle and hard to read until it was was far too late, California and many other coastal areas were hit the hardest, being extremely dangerous and unlivable environments. The governments of almost all afflicted countries were disbanded by the 7th year of the outbreak. The infected maintain about a quarter of self awareness after infection, and little to none in the later stages. The body begins to deteriorate after a few weeks of infection, and blood begins to thicken and clot in the face and neck after about 5 weeks then the virus takes full control the host after the brain dies, the last stage of infection, is the solidification of saliva filling the mouth with large kidney stone like mounds on the gums and roof of the mouth, along with under the tongue if the host is to die off completely the virus will push itself onto the blood of the host so when it bleeds out it has a higher chance of spread. the infection is spreed through salivation on any openings in the body, such as open wounds, lacerations or eyes nose and mouth. It can also be transmitted through water, but will die if said water is boiled. There is no curing the virus whatsoever, best treatment is immediate execution. The military has small installations to protect survivors from the elements and hostile factions. Like bandits, who travel solo or in small groups. And are generally the type to shoot on sight And scrounge your body for value, Or anarchists who are usually in larger groups and even in colonies of sorts rarely ever traveling alone. They are technically neutral but are very easily provoked and will resort to violence almost any time.
