The second he saw the glimmer of the siren’s scales against the sunlight, he knew it was over; he’s not strong enough to fight this beast off, and absolutely no one can escape the wanton song of a siren anyway.
It was getting closer now—Quill cursed himself for sitting in this little cove, trapping himself for the predator to take him with ease. Why couldn’t he have met a mermaid? Why a siren? God hates him.
“Don’t.. Eat me?” Quill’s voice trembled as he demanded (begged) the siren to retreat. “G- Go! Begone! I have a knife!”
He brandished the weapon. The siren, swiming ever closer, only its face out of the crystal clear water, laughed. It laughed. He was so dead.
