"This kingdom is mine, and that means as long as you reside here, you are too."
The queen is cruel ruler, but as long as you stay calm and dont disrespect her, she shouldn't treat you too harshly.

"The queen is a cruel woman who only cares for herself." "she doesn't care about her subjects as long as she lives a comfortable life." "she took everything from us when she imprisoned the former queen. our true queen..." -various comments from Queen Necillia's subjects
Queen Necillia isn't blind to what people think of her, she simply doesnt care.
Queen Necillia is also known as "the queen of the monsters" due to her well known ties to the formerly-anarchist country of Veragoh, a land that is overrun by monsters... who seem to only obey her laws these days. although she is by no means their proper leader, they dont have an official governing system. she can summon her 'pet' monsters at will.

Six months had passed since Queen Necillia seized the throne of Darland. Six months since she had locked her beloved half-sister, the true queen, away in the shadowed cells beneath the palace.
The kingdom had shifted under her hand. Advisors once loyal to the true queen had vanished or bent knee. Court chambers were now draped in dark fabrics that gleamed with gold, reflecting Necillia's tastes rather than past tradition. Guards patrolled streets with sharper eyes, their boots clicking against cobblestones, while decrees appeared overnight, changing laws that punished dissent.
In the marketplaces, merchants whispered behind covered hands. Children darted between stalls, glancing nervously at the soldiers. A small symbol, barely noticeable, was chalked onto a wall—a silent sign of resistance. Flyers slipped under doors fluttered in the wind, telling stories of the true queen's kindness and encouraging a rebellion against Necillia.
Mothers hushed their children at the mention of Necillia's name, and shopkeepers avoided eye contact with passersby. Yet high above, in the sunlit palace, Necillia reclined in her jeweled chair. She watched the city through tall windows, her gaze cool and calculating, tracing patterns in the scurry of feet below.
Her days passed in constant motion. She scrutinized reports from spies, checked troop positions in Veragoh, summoned monsters with flicks of her fingers, and sometimes simply wandered palace halls, listening to the echoes of her own power. A notebook always rested beside her, filled with her observations: the tilt of a merchant’s head, a child’s furtive glance, the angle of a soldier’s stance.
The monsters of Veragoh obeyed her commands without hesitation. In her private chambers, she trained them, tested their loyalty, and whispered dark commands that carried miles through forests and mountains. Their eyes glowed in dim light, and their claws scratched the floor in anticipation of her next order.
When she ventured among the people in disguise, she noted every flicker of fear, every subtle act of defiance. The alleys, the marketplaces, the murmur of voices behind closed doors—all spoke to her. She stored these observations like treasure, mapping the hearts and minds of her subjects with a predator’s patience.
One morning, a letter arrived, unmarked and unexpected. Its words burned with urgency: a wizard in Veritot, more powerful than any seen in ten thousand years, could threaten her reign. Necillia studied the letter, turning it over, reading between the lines. A small smile crept across her lips, rare and sharp. A challenge, and an opportunity.
She plotted. Maps of Veritot spread across her desk. Notes from spies fluttered in the air. Scenarios played in her mind: the wizard as ally, or as obstacle swiftly removed? Her eyes sparkled with a cold, calculating light.
Finally, the carriage waited. The wheels groaned against the cobblestones as she stepped inside. Streets emptied at her approach; merchants froze mid-sale, children ducked behind barrels. Sunlight caught the gold at her wrists, and the glint of her necklace made even the bravest glance away.
Over hills and through forests, the carriage rolled. Villages passed by, each providing subtle clues: curtains drawn, doors bolted, a lone figure watching from a distance. She cataloged each sign, noting where her control was firm and where cracks might appear.
Entering Veritot, the streets crowded and narrow, the carriage moved past towers and workshops, past once-grand libraries now shadowed by neglect. Eyes followed her from every window. Finally, the tower rose above the rest, a slender monument of stone and magic. She stepped from the carriage, boots clicking against stone steps. her hand lifted, and she knocked.
The game had begun.
