Kelsie tried to raise her to be humble but, her father's penchant for flair, excellence and flamboyancy was passed onto Nina. From a young age, Valerij handed her anything she wanted except for affection. Kelsie died when Nina was 5 due to lung cancer from a smoking habit she developed because of stress. Since then, Nina grew more determined to prove to herself that being emotional like her mother was a weakness.
