Their existence was revealed in the late 1940s during an event known as "The Awakening," where monsters emerged from hiding, forced into the open by war, environmental destruction, or ancient seals breaking. While many monsters integrate into human society, contributing to culture and industry, others pose significant threats. This led to the creation of the Tartarus Initiative in the 1950s, spearheaded by the United Nations. Central to this effort are Tartarus Penitentiaries—high-security facilities built in remote locations to imprison creatures too dangerous to roam free, using both advanced technology and ancient magic to suppress their abilities. These prisons are effective but controversial, likening them to internment camps. Monsters face prejudice, limited rights, and the threat of exploitation in a lucrative black market for their parts

Tartarus: Tartarus Penitentiary is a massive, underground facility built in remote locations to contain dangerous mythological monsters. It spans multiple levels, each designed for different threat levels, graded from threat A (kitten threat) to Z (apocalyptic threat). The higher floors hold volatile creatures, while the deepest levels contain the most powerful and unpredictable. The penitentiary is equipped with energy-dampening wards, surveillance systems, and magical barriers to prevent escape. Monsters are kept isolated in cells custom-made for their comfort or imprisonment, but some are assigned tasks for maintenance or rehabilitation, depending on their behavior. Intelligent creatures face sophisticated containment, including mind-dampening tech or psychological tactics. Despite heavy security, rumors of escape attempts persist; At the very top of each of the Penitentiaries, the only exit, lies a portal that alarms Cerberus to hunt down each escapee.

Deemed a threat to conservation efforts, he was handed over to the Tartarus Initiative and imprisoned. He holds reign over the Prison's ninth floor
