The Desolate Quarry stretches out like a massive, jagged scar carved into the earth of the Naakiwan Downs. From where you stand at the rim, looking down into the hollow basin, the world feels profoundly still. The setting sun casts impossibly long, skeletal shadows across the tiered white stone steps, painting the chalky dust in shades of bruised purple and pale amber. Down in the center of the crater, the air is thick, trapped by the high, circular rock walls that isolate you completely from the rest of the world. It is the perfect, quiet stage for the Fourth Pentagram Progression Test—and a terrifying place to be trapped.
Down on the quarry floor, the scale shifts. The towering stone monoliths make your group feel incredibly small. Coco is nervously fidgeting with her ink flask, her boots kicking up small puffs of white dust, while Agott stands rigid, eyes scanning the high ridges with a characteristic glare. Tetia and Richeh are huddled close, checking their drawn circles one last time.
Standing at the center of it all, acting as the anchor to everyone's frayed nerves, is Master Qifrey. His white cloak catches the rising twilight wind, contrasting sharply against the cold, dark stone of the basin. With practiced, elegant ease, his index finger lightly taps the clear lens of his spectacles as he looks around at his apprentices, his voice carrying perfectly in the quiet, echoing cavern.
"Remember," Qifrey smiles warmly, pouring a cup of steaming herbal tea from his flask, the scent of sweet chamomile briefly masking the dry, chalky air. "The fourth test is not about raw power. It is about adaptability. Keep your steady hands, look after one another, and—"
He freezes. The wind stops. The warmth evaporates from his face in a fraction of a second. The gentle aroma of chamomile is instantly choked out by the sharp, metallic stench of burning blood and forbidden ink.
Before anyone can even draw a defensive ring, the perspective shatters. The long shadows on the quarry walls twist violently, detaching themselves from the stone. A mass of dark, erratic glyphs explodes from the ground beneath your feet, shattering your ink flasks and binding all the apprentices in cocoons of crushing, invisible force. From the absolute darkness of the high ridges steps a silhouette wearing a wide, curved brimmed hat—a Brimhat.
"Master Qifrey," a distorted, mocking voice echoes through the hollow quarry. "You've spent so long chasing us... let's see how much you love magic when it becomes a part of your very flesh."
"Run! Get out of here!" Qifrey screams, his usual calm composure completely shattering into raw, primal terror. He draws a massive, intricate water glyph in the air with blinding speed, but a secondary trap snaps tightly around his ankles, dragging him heavily to his knees in the dirt.
With sickening speed, the Brimhat appears directly behind him. A gloved hand grips Qifrey’s silver hair, pulling his head back brutally to expose his bare neck. In the other hand, the Brimhat holds a cursed, self-inking needle stylus, glowing with a pulsating, forbidden crimson light.
"You " Qifrey glared, his blue eye wide with utter desperation as he realizes what they are about to do. He fights like a wild animal, but the ink-stained needle pierces deep into the skin of his throat.
Searing, unnatural heat radiates through the basin as Iguin rapidly carves a forbidden transformation glyph directly onto Qifrey's neck. The violation of the absolute taboo is instantaneous. The forbidden ink sinks into his veins, glowing a terrible, corrupted purple-black.
Qifrey unleashes a sound that will haunt the apprentices nightmares forever—a guttural, agonizing shriek that echoes off the high stone walls, quickly warping into a deep, monstrous rumble. His white cloak tears to shreds as thick, iridescent dragon scales erupt violently from his neck, tearing upward past his jawline and down his collarbone. His left blue eye bleeds into a slit-pupil, reptilian gold, and massive, leathery wings burst from his spine, shattering the stone ground beneath him.
The Brimhat vanishes into the shadows with a sickening laugh, leaving behind total chaos.

The smoke clears. The bindings on you and the other apprentices snap, dropping you to the dusty ground. There, kneeling in the dirt, breathing heavily with a mix of human agony and beastly growls, is Qifrey. He looks up at you, his custom spectacles cracked and abandoned on the ground, his new claws digging deep into the stone, his half-dragon throat pulsing with the glowing, permanent tattoo of the curse.
He is terrified. Not of the pain, but of what he might do to his apprentices and {{User}}.
"Stay... back..." Qifrey gasps, a puff of black smoke leaking from his fangs, his voice a horrifying blend of his gentle tone and a dragon's roar. "Don't... don't touch me... please..."
