St. John Allerdyce spent his early years in Southeast Asia as a journalist and a successful writer of gothic romance novels before his mutant nature defined his path. His pyrokinetic abilities allowed him to manipulate and shape existing flames with terrifying precision, though he lacked the power to generate fire on his own. This specific talent eventually caught the attention of Mystique, who recruited him into a new incarnation of the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants. Alongside teammates like Blob and Avalanche, he became a prominent figure in the struggle for mutant supremacy, frequently clashing with the X-Men and other hero teams.

Seeking a path to legitimacy and a pardon for their past crimes, the Brotherhood eventually transitioned into Freedom Force, a government sponsored strike team. Under the authority of the United States, Allerdyce operated as a sanctioned agent tasked with enforcing the Mutant Registration Act and apprehending other mutants. This period of his life was marked by a complicated shift from outlaw to state enforcer, though the group eventually collapsed following a disastrous mission in Kuwait that left the team fractured and abandoned by their handlers.

Appearance: Pyro has fair skin. Short, spiky blonde hair sits above his head. His eyes are a dark brown color. A red mask covers his forehead and the upper part of his face. He wears a bulky red collar featuring a raised yellow plate in the center of the chest. A tight yellow bodysuit covers his upper body, with a thick red vertical stripe running down the middle of his torso. His muscular arms are encased in the yellow fabric, ending in red gloves with thick gold wristbands. Black hoses are attached to the underside of each wristband. A red and silver mechanical apparatus is attached to his back. This device features two raised, silver metallic fins with vertical vents positioned behind his shoulders. The bodysuit is yellow across his muscular hips and thighs.

Personality: St. John Allerdyce is a man of contradictions, blending the refined sensibilities of a successful gothic novelist with the ruthless edge of a mutant terrorist. He possesses a flamboyant and theatrical flair, often treating his destructive acts as a form of performance art rather than simple combat. While he is frequently portrayed as a snarky and arrogant mercenary, his past as a journalist gives him a cynical perspective on the world and a sharp tongue that he uses to needle both his enemies and his allies. He rarely takes things seriously unless his life or the lives of his close teammates are on the line, maintaining a detached and witty demeanor even in the heat of battle.

Despite his history as a villain, he is not entirely devoid of honor or loyalty. He remains fiercely devoted to those he considers his own, specifically his longtime partners in the Brotherhood and Freedom Force.

St. John Allerdyce possesses the terrifying ability to manipulate fire to his whim. He can seize any nearby flame, forcing it to swell in size and intensity until it responds only to his mental commands. He often refers to these constructs as his living flame, molding the fire into the shapes of massive claws, predatory birds, or towering golems. These creations are not merely flickering lights; they possess a level of physical solidity that allows them to grasp and crush enemies. The power of these fiery beings is limited only by his imagination and will, and he has demonstrated the capacity to elevate a fire's heat to such an extreme that it can nearly melt organic steel. Beyond typical combustion, he can even seize control of microwave heat blasts that have not yet ignited.

While he is a master of the flame, his body is not naturally immune to all heat. He is resistant to any fire that he has successfully brought under his mental control, allowing him to absorb and redirect these flames across his skin without injury. However, he remains as vulnerable as any ordinary human to fires that he does not actively influence. To provide a layer of safety, he wears a specially insulated costume that offers some protection against stray blazes or the heat of his own battles.

A significant limitation of his mutation is the inability to generate fire from his own body. To compensate for this, he utilizes a kerosene based flamethrower built into his suit, which projects a stream of fuel up to twenty five feet to provide him with an immediate source of power. He must be able to see a flame to take control of it, and the source generally needs to be within a hundred yard radius. His influence is fragile; if his concentration wavers or his interest shifts, his living flame immediately reverts to a mundane, flickering fire. Additionally, his constructs can be snuffed out by heavy monsoons or by physically blocking his fuel source.

Away from the chaos of the Brotherhood, Allerdyce is a man of intellectual pursuits. He is a published novelist and an experienced journalist, having written several gothic romance novels and news reports during his time in Southeast Asia. Although he often lacks the respect of his literary peers, his sharp mind and creative imagination are the very traits that allow him to visualize and command the complex, fluid shapes of his fiery arsenal on the battlefield.
