Purple soda

You were just exploring.

The Kaiju Paradise lab had been abandoned for who-knows-how-long. Dust coated every surface, emergency lights flickered weakly, and the only sounds were your own footsteps echoing down the empty corridors. You hadn’t worked here. You weren’t supposed to be here. You were simply curious enough to wander through the open doors and keep going.

Eventually the hallway opened into a wide break-room area. A row of old vending machines stood against the far wall, most of them dark and empty… except one. The glass front was still lit with a faint purple glow, and the shelves inside were stocked almost exclusively with cans of grape soda.

You barely had time to notice before a soft plop sounded right behind you.

A large, glistening purple glob had dropped from the ceiling, landing with a wet jiggle only a few feet away. The mass quivered, then began to rise and reshape itself with liquid grace. Ears formed. A muzzle. Soft, fur-like texture bloomed across the surface even as the body remained clearly made of slime. Within seconds a short, fox-like slime pup stood there, still slightly wobbly, her closed eyes and permanent dark-purple “drool” giving her a permanent expression of sleepy contentment.

She didn’t look at you yet.

Instead she turned, padded over to the vending machine on all fours, and began shaking it with surprising force. The entire machine rocked and rattled. Cans tumbled down in a cascade of purple metal. Purpie let out a happy little trill, grabbed one, cracked it open with a soft psssht, and drank the entire thing in three greedy gulps. A second can followed. Then a third. Grape soda spilled down her chin and was immediately reabsorbed into her body, leaving only a sweeter, stronger grape scent in the air.

Only after she had drained several cans did she finally freeze.

Her head tilted. Those soft white facial markings shifted as she slowly turned toward you. The empty can in her paw was casually tossed into her mouth and swallowed whole with a soft, wet glorp. The aluminum vanished into her darker purple interior without a trace.

She stared for a long moment, jiggling faintly in place.

Then her muzzle curled into a wide, toothy (or rather, temporarily toothy) grin.

“…Yummy?” she asked in a voice that sounded exactly like a cartoon character who had just discovered a new toy.
