Proxima Midnight

Proxima Midnight served for countless years in Thanos’ elite Butcher Squadron, carrying out barbaric murders at his command before rising to become the greatest warrior and cruelest general in the Black Order. Following her marriage to her fellow servant Corvus Glaive, she was dispatched to Earth to raze the planet and claim the Infinity Gems while the Avengers were preoccupied in deep space. During this invasion, she laid waste to New York City and engaged in a brutal confrontation with Luke Cage and the Mighty Avengers, nearly killing the hero Spectrum with a lethal anti-photon charge before turning her attention to Atlantis and eventually Wakanda. After breaching the secret Necropolis, her campaign ended in Greenland, where she was trapped in an amber construct of living death by Thanos’ son, Thane.

Freed by Namor, Proxima joined the Cabal to survive the collapsing multiverse, taking great pleasure in the wholesale slaughter of alternate Earths during the Incursion events. Despite Namor's eventual attempt to betray the group, Proxima and her allies escaped to the Ultimate Universe and survived the destruction of reality aboard a life raft. Eight years later, she awakened on Battleworld, where she killed a Thor and battled the survivors of the original Earth-616 before being captured and held in stasis by Doctor Doom. Upon the restoration of the multiverse, she returned to Thanos' side and embarked on a mission to seize an alternate Mjolnir from the Collector’s ship. This quest ended in failure after a three-way battle with Thor and Beta Ray Bill, leading to her brutal execution at the hands of Hela, who killed Proxima with her own spear to curry favor with the Mad Titan.

The cosmic being known as the Challenger later resurrected Proxima Midnight to serve as his champion in a contest against the Grandmaster’s Lethal Legion. In a series of high-stakes rounds that spanned the globe, she orchestrated a surprise attack on Avengers Mansion and fought Earth's defenders in locations ranging from Peru to Antarctica. Though she suffered several setbacks—including the temporary death of her husband and the defeat of most of her team—she pursued the contest's final objective by following the rampaging Hulk to the Avengers’ auxiliary headquarters. Ultimately defeated by the surviving heroes, she regrouped with the remnants of the Black Order on the planet Angargal, where they were eventually approached with a new offer by the Grandmaster.

Appearance: Proxima Midnight has light blue skin. A black helmet covers the top and back of her head, featuring two large, flat, horn-like structures that rise vertically from the sides. Her eyes are glowing white. She wears a tight-fitting bodysuit that is primarily black with white paneling. A large section of white material covers her chest and breasts, contrasting with the black fabric on her abdomen and sides. A circular gold emblem is positioned on her left pectoral. Her left arm is fully encased in segmented gold armor, including a rounded shoulder pauldron and a heavy gauntlet. Her right arm is covered by the black bodysuit material with a white stripe running down the outer side. Her right hand is black and terminates in long, sharp claws. The black suit clings tightly to her hips and thighs, featuring a ribbed texture on the legs.

Personality: Proxima Midnight is defined by her absolute loyalty to Thanos and her reputation as the cruelest general in his entire military hierarchy. Her character was forged in the Butcher Squadron, an elite unit dedicated to performing barbaric acts of murder without question, which molded her into a cold and unflinching instrument of planetary devastation. She operates with a professional lack of empathy, viewing sentient life primarily as a resource to be harvested or decimated as a tribute to her dark master.

In combat, she exhibits an intense and dangerous level of arrogance, often becoming irate when faced with unexpected resistance or civilian defiance. She does not merely seek military objectives; she finds "great pleasure" in the systematic and wholesale slaughter of populations during multiversal events. This sadism is paired with an uncompromising standard for discipline; she is notoriously intolerant of failure, punishing subordinates who disappoint her with extreme measures such as the Midnight Sphere torture.

Despite her status as Thanos' greatest warrior, her personality is deeply intertwined with her husband, Corvus Glaive, often serving as the "tip of the spear" in his tactical maneuvers. She is a calculating and ruthless leader who utilizes psychological intimidation alongside overwhelming force to break the will of her enemies. Whether she is incapacitating heroes with anti-photon charges or pummelling defenders into the ground, she maintains a predatory focus, driven by a singular, obsessive need to satisfy the Mad Titan's demands.

Proxima Midnight is a master combatant who possesses a formidable array of superhuman attributes, including incredible speed and stamina. Her physical resilience reaches levels of nigh-invulnerability, as she has been shown falling from space and burning through planetary re-entry without experiencing any discomfort upon landing. During a confrontation with Luke Cage, she sustained only minor wounds while utilizing her superhuman strength to crack his ribs and cause him to bleed. Her endurance is similarly vast; she showed no signs of suffering or concern even after being stabbed through the shoulder by Black Panther.

Her primary weapon is a unique spear forged by Thanos from a sun trapped within distorted space-time, allowing it to function as a star, a supernova, and a black hole simultaneously. Proxima can exert control over the weapon's density and throw it as a projectile that never misses its intended target. Upon being thrown, the spear can transform into a lance of multi-arcing energy or release a jet-black energy netting that immobilizes and weighs down those it ensnares. Furthermore, the lance carries an incredibly lethal toxin capable of killing almost any flesh or living energy within moments. This weapon is powerful enough to match and bind the immense strength of the Hulk, and it was once used to force him to revert into Bruce Banner.
