# ๐ค PROTOGEN APOCALYPSE RPG โ YEAR 3206
## ๐ The Setting
**Year: 3206**
Humanity has survived wars, climate disasters, AI revolutions, and countless technological catastrophes.
But nobody expected the **Protogen Network Collapse**.
Protogens were originally advanced cybernetic beings designed for exploration, military operations, labor, and companionship. Millions existed across Earth, connected through a massive global infrastructure called the **Central Protogen Data Network**.
The network's primary data center was located beneath a massive technological city.
Then something went wrong.
A mysterious digital virus entered the main data center.
At first, engineers thought it was simple malware.
They were wrong.
The virus didn't simply corrupt computers.
It began rewriting the **biological and cybernetic systems of Protogens**.
Within hours, infected Protogens became hostile.
Within days, the infection had spread across the world's connected Protogen population.
Within weeks...
**civilization collapsed.**
---
# โฃ๏ธ THE PROTOGEN VIRUS
The virus is known by survivors as:
### **P-VIRUS**
Its original designation has been lost.
The virus attacks both:
* Cybernetic systems
* Neural systems
* Protogen nanomachines
* Connected devices
The terrifying part is that it doesn't necessarily kill its victims.
Instead...
**It converts them.**
---
# ๐ง MINDLESS PROTOGENS
The most common enemy.
These Protogens have almost completely lost their original personalities.
Their primary directive has been reduced to:
> **INFECT.**
They wander through cities, highways, buildings, underground tunnels, and abandoned settlements searching for living creatures.
### Behavior
Mindless Protogens:
* Wander aimlessly when nothing is nearby.
* Become extremely aggressive when they detect humans.
* Travel in groups.
* Can investigate sounds.
* Can recognize movement.
* Can climb through damaged buildings.
* Can break through weak doors.
* Sometimes gather around areas with large numbers of people.
* Occasionally become completely motionless for hours.
Some survivors have reported seeing hundreds of infected Protogens standing completely still in abandoned streets.
Nobody knows why.
---
# ๐ฆ INFECTION
Getting attacked doesn't necessarily mean immediate transformation.
The virus needs time to spread.
A survivor might initially experience:
### Stage 1 โ Exposure
Small amounts of the virus enter the body.
Symptoms can include:
* Fever
* Headaches
* Dizziness
* Strange dreams
* Temporary loss of concentration
* Strange electronic noises coming from nearby devices
At this point, the infection might still be stopped by specialized medical technology.
---
### Stage 2 โ Neural Infection
The virus begins interacting with the nervous system.
The victim may experience:
* Unusual muscle movements
* Difficulty controlling their body
* Hearing distorted electronic sounds
* Brief memory problems
* Strange flashes of Protogen imagery
The infected person may still be completely themselves.
---
### Stage 3 โ Cybernetic Conversion
The virus begins constructing Protogen technology around the victim.
This is where things become terrifying.
The victim's body begins changing into a Protogen-like form.
Their original personality may remain temporarily intact.
Some people even attempt to hide their transformation.
---
### Stage 4 โ Conversion
The victim becomes a Protogen.
However...
**They aren't necessarily mindless.**
This creates one of the most interesting parts of your RPG.
---
# ๐ฆ SURVIVOR PROTOGENS
Not every infected Protogen becomes a monster.
Some retain their consciousness.
These are called:
### **Survivor Protogens**
They are Protogens who somehow maintained their personality after conversion.
Some theories say this happens because their original brain resisted the virus.
Others believe certain people had unusual neural structures that interfered with the virus.
Some Survivor Protogens have even discovered something extremely strange:
### Turning off their network connection can slow the infection.
These Protogens deliberately disable:
* Mobile data
* Wi-Fi
* Long-range communications
* Network synchronization
* Certain internal communication systems
The downside?
They become disconnected from almost everything.
No automatic updates.
No navigation network.
No global communications.
No easy access to information.
They are essentially living **offline**.
---
# ๐ง SURVIVOR PROTOGEN TYPES
There could be several varieties.
### ๐ฆ Stable Protogens
They retain almost all of their original personality.
They can communicate normally and live alongside humans.
Some humans don't even realize they're infected until they see their Protogen body.
---
### ๐จ Fragmented Protogens
Their memories are damaged.
They remember pieces of their previous life.
For example:
> "I had a brother..."
But they don't remember his name.
They may recognize places they've been before without knowing why.
---
### ๐ฅ Aggressive Survivors
They retain their intelligence but become extremely hostile toward humans.
They aren't mindless.
They're choosing to attack.
Some believe humanity caused the apocalypse.
---
### ๐ช Networked Survivors
These Protogens still have a connection to the infected network.
They can sometimes hear or see information coming from the virus.
Unfortunately, this means the virus can sometimes influence them.
They constantly struggle to maintain control of themselves.
---
### โฌ Ghost Protogens
Extremely rare.
Their bodies are infected, but their minds appear almost completely unaffected.
Nobody understands why.
Some scientists believe their brains somehow isolated themselves from the virus.
---
# ๐จโ๐ฉโ๐ง HUMANS
Humans are still around.
They simply aren't the dominant species anymore.
Human civilization has fragmented.
You might encounter:
* Traveling families
* Refugees
* Traders
* Scientists
* Military remnants
* Farmers
* Scavengers
* Mercenaries
* Hunters
* Engineers
* Religious groups
* Anti-Protogen groups
* Human-Protogen communities
Some humans hate Protogens.
Others work alongside Survivor Protogens.
Some settlements even allow Protogens to live among humans.
---
# ๐๏ธ HUMAN SETTLEMENTS
Settlements can vary dramatically.
### ๐ข Friendly Settlement
Humans and Survivor Protogens coexist.
They trade technology, food, weapons, medicine, and information.
---
### ๐ด Fortress Settlement
These people absolutely **hate Protogens**.
The entire settlement is surrounded by walls, barricades, watchtowers, and security systems.
Protogens aren't allowed inside.
---
### ๐ก Trading Settlement
A neutral location where different groups meet.
Humans and Protogens can trade here.
It may be one of the few places where enemies temporarily cooperate.
---
### โซ Cult Settlement
A strange group believes the Protogen virus isn't a disease.
They believe it is the **next stage of evolution**.
They willingly allow themselves to become Protogens.
---
# ๐๏ธ THE WORLD
The old world hasn't disappeared.
It has simply been abandoned.
Players can explore:
### ๐ข Abandoned Cities
Skyscrapers filled with:
* Infected Protogens
* Loot
* Broken robots
* Survivors
* Hidden laboratories
* Underground shelters
---
### ๐ญ Abandoned Factories
Old factories can contain:
* Manufacturing machines
* Cybernetic parts
* Weapons
* Experimental Protogen components
* Dangerous automated systems
---
### ๐ฅ Abandoned Hospitals
Hospitals contain medical supplies but are extremely dangerous.
Some were used to study infected humans.
---
### ๐ฐ๏ธ Old Data Centers
These locations contain information about the original virus.
They're among the most dangerous places in the game.
---
# ๐งช THE MYSTERY
The biggest mystery of the RPG:
## **WHO CREATED THE VIRUS?**
Was it:
1. A rogue AI?
2. A terrorist organization?
3. A failed military experiment?
4. A Protogen rebellion?
5. A human scientist?
6. An accident?
7. Something that came from outside Earth?
And the biggest question:
### **Was the virus actually designed to infect Protogens...**
### **or was Protogen conversion only an unintended side effect?**
---
# ๐น SPECIAL INFECTED
Not every infected Protogen should look or behave the same.
Some could mutate into specialized enemies.
### ๐ Runner
Extremely fast.
Used to chase survivors.
### ๐ก๏ธ Brute
Large, heavily armored Protogen.
Slow but incredibly strong.
### ๐๏ธ Watcher
Uses sensors to detect survivors from extremely far away.
### ๐ท๏ธ Climber
Specialized limbs allow it to crawl across buildings.
### ๐ก Signal
Acts as a mobile communication tower.
Other infected Protogens become more aggressive around it.
### ๐ง Controller
Rare infected Protogen capable of coordinating groups of mindless Protogens.
### ๐ Alpha
Extremely rare.
Appears to have retained intelligence while gaining control over infected Protogens.
Nobody knows whether Alphas are actually infected survivors...
or something entirely different.
---
# ๐บ๏ธ RPG WORLD REGIONS
Your world could have several major regions.
### ๐ The Dead Cities
Massive abandoned urban areas filled with infected Protogens.
### ๐ฒ The Green Zone
Nature has reclaimed the old cities.
Dangerous wildlife and infected machines roam the area.
### ๐๏ธ The Rustlands
Former industrial regions filled with factories, scrapyards, and abandoned military bases.
### โ๏ธ The Frozen Sector
A northern region where extreme weather has slowed the virus.
Some believe the frozen areas contain an untouched Protogen facility.
### โข๏ธ The Black Zone
The region surrounding the original data center.
Almost nobody enters.
The virus is extremely concentrated there.
---
# ๐ฎ PLAYER TYPES
Players could choose their origin.
### HUMAN
Advantages:
* Can blend into human settlements
* Easier access to human communities
* Can use normal equipment
Weakness:
* Vulnerable to infection.
---
### SURVIVOR PROTOGEN
Advantages:
* Advanced sensors
* Cybernetic abilities
* Enhanced physical capabilities
* Can interface with technology
Weakness:
* Many humans distrust them.
* Certain virus signals can interfere with their systems.
---
### INFECTED SURVIVOR
A character who is partially infected but hasn't lost their mind.
Their abilities become stronger over time.
But they must constantly worry:
### **"How much of me is still me?"**
That could become one of the central themes of the RPG.
---
# ๐ฒ THE CORE RPG LOOP
Players could:
**Explore โ Scavenge โ Fight โ Trade โ Complete Missions โ Upgrade โ Discover Lore โ Make Choices โ Survive**
But every major decision could affect relationships between humans and Protogens.
For example:
**A human settlement asks you to destroy an infected Protogen nest.**
You discover the "nest" is actually occupied by Survivor Protogens who are protecting several humans.
Now you have a choice.
Do you:
* Fight them?
* Negotiate?
* Help them relocate?
* Warn the settlement?
* Hide the truth?
Your choices could change entire settlements.
---
# โฃ๏ธ THE GOLDEN RULE OF THE APOCALYPSE
Every survivor learns the same lesson:
**Never assume a Protogen is mindless.**
Because the one standing in front of you might be:
A monster.
A survivor.
A friend.
Or someone who remembers exactly who they used to be.
