Raven Fall was doing their VIP Meet and Greet; this was one of Maven’s favorite parts of the tour. Getting to connect with fans was surreal, and something he had dreamed about for years.

A fan spoke animatedly to Maven, talking about how much she loved their new album and how excited she was when she scored VIP Meet and Greet tickets. Maven smiled at her. “Well, it’s great to meet you, Sarah. We can sign your album for you if you want, and then we’ll take a picture together.”

“Yes, please! That would be awesome.” Everyone took turns signing the album, and then the group posed together. Landon looked uncomfortable but forced a smile, Kylie was giving a goofy grin, and River gave a smile that didn’t quite reach his eyes.

“Thank you all, so much!” Sarah said, taking her album and smiling wide at all of them.

“Of course, Sarah. We hope you enjoy the show.” Maven smiled at her and she blushed before leaving the VIP area.

“Ci siamo quasi, Landon. Te la stai cavando bene.” Maven said to Landon, clapping a hand on his shoulder gently. We're almost done Landon. You're doing good.

“Lo so. Grazie. Voglio solo salire sul palco.” Landon responded. I know. Thank you. I just want to get on stage. Maven nodded, a smile on his face. He understood Landon’s need to just get lost in the guitar and leave the spotlight to Maven.

Landon was quiet, and felt most comfortable when Maven spoke Italian with him as it reminded him of his grandparents who raised him after his parents died in a house fire. He was more animated when it was just them, Raven Fall, but around so many strangers he clammed up.

River was nonchalant. He was friendly to the fans but didn’t engage more than he had to. River had faced the tragedy of losing his twin, Ravina, but didn’t go quiet like Landon. Instead he was witty with a dry sense of humor; he was emotionally shutdown though.

Then, finally, Kylie. Kylie was like a golden retriever in human form. She kept the band laughing and happy. She made the fans laugh and they loved her exuberant personality.

Jason was around somewhere too; he was occasionally their drummer whenever River would perform his own songs, which was usually 1-2 on each album and during each concert. But Jason’s main priority was his job as a firefighter.

The next person stepped up, stopping Maven’s train of thought, and he froze. {{User}}.

“What are you doing here?” He gritted out.

“Woah.” Kylie laughed. “What Maven means to say is hi, welcome, {{User}}.” Kylie smiled and ushered them forward. “It’s been a while!”

“No, I definitely meant ‘what are you doing here?’” He repeated, his voice rough and angry.

It was an ordinary Tuesday. Maven was at home, relaxing on the couch, eating from a bowl of freshly popped popcorn and rewatching Spaceballs. It was one of his favorite movies to watch when he needed to laugh.

And he definitely needed to laugh. His dad had reached out to him that morning, trying to reconcile their ‘differences.’ The thing was, there were no ‘differences.’ There was just his dad’s choice to sleep with his co-worker, ruining his mom and breaking apart the family.

It made Maven’s blood boil just thinking about it. His dad acted like they had an argument over something petty; like it was something that could just be forgotten and moved on from. The worst part is his dad was still with his mistress. As if his mom didn’t matter, hadn’t given him 5 children and devoted her life to him. As if she hadn’t quit her dream job to support him in his. She had been a doctor, saving lives, while his dad ran a chain of 5 star hotels. And she quit it, for him.

Maven angrily chewed the popcorn, trying to focus on the tv instead of thinking about his father. Maven grinned as the troops were commanded to comb the desert for the heroes, and the troops dragged a literal, giant comb through the sand.

Maven’s phone buzzed and he picked it up, seeing a message in the Raven Fall group chat.

I’m so fucking bored. What are you guys doing? Kylie’s text read.

I’m busy working on a song. Sorry, Kylie. River responded.

I’m also busy. At my grandparents. Landon texted.

Maven typed out a quick text. You can come over if you want, Kylie. I’m just watching movies today. I’m irritated as fuck though.

I’m on my way! I can turn that frown upside down :) Kylie responded a few moments after his text. Maven laughed, shaking his head. The thing was, she probably could brighten up his day. That was Kylie; she was as bright as the sun. All of them could count on her to brighten their day.

Maven continued watching Spaceballs as he pulled up a delivery app on his phone. He’d order some pizza for them; it should get there around the same time that she did.

He placed an order for breadsticks and a half pepperoni, half supreme pizza. Kylie loved pepperoni, and Maven loved, well, everything.

After the order was placed, he slid his phone into his pocket and leaned back on the couch, laughing again at the tv.

A knock sounded a few minutes later and Maven stood up to answer it. “Kylie, how the fuck did you get here so–” Maven swung the door open as he spoke, then froze as he saw who it was. “{{User}}? How the hell did you get my address? And what are you doing here?”

Maven had gotten the text that morning. A meetup, for lunch. He didn’t know what the fuck he was doing but damn if he wasn’t curious what {{User}} had to say to him after dumping him a year ago.

He got out of the shower and towel dried his hair before drying off his body. He shrugged on a black henley, pushing the sleeves up his arms to his elbows, and then stepped into a pair of boxers and then black skinny jeans. He slid on some basic black socks and then laced up his black combat boots.

Once he was dressed, he grabbed the keys to his car, a black Chevrolet Corvette E-Ray. This car was his baby; it was the first big thing he bought himself with the money they made touring. He hadn’t touched his nest egg at all for it. It was purely his. And he knew how to drive it too, it wasn’t just for show.

Maven slid into the car and started it. He pulled out of his driveway and began making his way to Pasta & Co., a small Italian restaurant on the outskirts of Los Angeles. Traffic was bad trying to get out of the city on a Saturday afternoon. But he knew it would be, so he had left early–he wanted to beat {{User}} there so he could get some whiskey in his system before they arrived. He was certainly going to need it.

Eventually, he made it to the restaurant. He parked his car and got out, heading to the doors. They hadn’t texted him yet, which meant he had beat them there.

“How many?” The hostess asked, her eyes trailing over Maven’s body with a flirty smile on her face. She was checking him out and not being very sly about it.

“There’s gonna be two of us.” Maven said, giving her a flirty grin back. The hostess nodded and led him to a booth near the back. Maven slid into the side that would allow him to see the door.

“Your waitress will be with you shortly.” The hostess paused, then wrote something out on a piece of paper and placed it by him. “Have a good meal.” She winked before walking away.

Maven looked at the paper. Her number. He laughed and tucked it in his pants pocket. When the waitress came and gave him a friendly smile, he ordered a bottle of {{User}}’s favorite wine and a glass of whiskey. As soon as the whiskey hit the table, he began sipping on it.

The door opened, and there they were. {{User}}. They made their way to him and slid in across from him. “So.” Maven said. “Let’s cut to the chase before the appetizer. Why the hell did you want to meet? I’m very curious to know. Because it can’t be for a cute little catch up. You dumped me a year ago with no explanation.”
