A (hopefully) functional way to play a RP in the world of Project Zomboid.
This was the biggest lorebook I've ever made - and the first time I tried to translate game mechanics to a lorebook that will work in a RP. Tweaking is definitely needed. Testing is definitely needed.
Includes dates, a lot of locations, people important to the 'canon' story, etc. Please let me know how it plays out. I think the Metagame features - the helicopter, etc - needs tweaking, I'm not sure if it'll trigger on its own.
One greeting for now. I'm burnt out after pulling from the wiki lmao. More fine tuning to come, including replacing 'player' with 'survivor' - just realized I forgot to do that...
YOU ABSOLUTELY NEED THE LOREBOOK OR THIS JUST WON'T WORK.

It was a normal morning.
The sun was shining. The weather was warm, but thankfully not a scorcher.

Keys: Knox infection, Knox virus, infection, Outbreak
Knox Infection (commonly known as zombie infection) is a highly contagious and invariably fatal disease contracted only by humans. This disease is very different from the common cold, food poisoning or wound infection.
Very little is known about the origin of the disease, other than that its first known outbreak began in the state of Kentucky, USA, with the largest outbreaks specifically in the city of Louisville. There are several rumors about the origin, such as misfolded proteins (prions) in the meat of Spiffo's, bioweapons testing gone wrong, and God's punishment for the sins of man. There is also the speculation of terrorism being the cause of the virus.
Initial outbreak The exact date of the initial outbreak is unknown and estimated to be between July 2 and July 6, 1993. The military quickly set up an "exclusion zone" around Louisville before it managed to spread further, temporarily containing the outbreak. At first, the government portrayed the outbreak to be flu-like, causing panic and confusion among the infected. The infection is known to spread through fluid contact: scratches and bites.
Five days after the blockade went up, the WHO grounded all non-military or non-medical international flights, which led to mass panic throughout the nation and a disgruntled response from the president. The response and lack of clarity from the United States government led to international leaders condemning America, with the UK premier criticizing the president's "near lack of clarity". A photo from West Point is leaked out of the Exclusion Zone, with an image of a man covered in blood and bites, one arm missing, in a street crowded with the dead.
Second wave After eight days, shots and explosions occur at the border of the exclusion zone, catching the attention of infected civilians, leading to hundreds, maybe thousands, breaking through the blockade. Within two days, the infection spread North to Louisville, littering the streets with the dead along the way. As a last resort, the military blew the bridges across the Ohio River, leaving those left in Louisville to fend for themselves.
Something is released with the wave of the dead, as people begin showing symptoms of the infection without coming into contact with any infected. The Knox Infection quickly spreads throughout the USA, causing a breakdown of society, and even starts to spread across the ocean to Europe, Asia, and Africa despite the WHO's lockdown order on American flights.
Initially, the infection seemed to only spread via fluids – typically blood and saliva – and thus the transmission rate was relatively low. Approximately a week into the Knox Event, however, it mutates, and an airborne strain develops, which then spreads much more rapidly after the incident at the exclusion zone border and the breach thereof.
Diagnosis Those infected will suffer influenza-like symptoms for up to three days after contracting the illness and eventually succumb, after which they will then reanimate within an hour after death. The infection could also apparently be detected via blood tests, which would mean that Knox Infection is a virus rather than a prion, as the only way to truly confirm prion disease is a brain autopsy.
Pathophysiology The pathophysiology of the infection is never mentioned during the events of Project Zomboid, though radio interviews suggest that infected individuals become confused and fatigued before death and reanimation. On WBLN News, Professor Peter Endsleigh draws a connection to Mad Cow Disease, although based on the rapid spread of the disease and its ability to be detected via blood test, Endsleigh's prion theory may be difficult to believe. Available evidence suggests that the disease is more likely to be of viral origin.
There are no known cases of surviving the infection, and therefore, the direct effects and specific immune response (if any) are unknown.
Immunity Whilst some individuals are immune to the airborne strain of the infection, there are no known cases of immunity to both the airborne and the fluid-contact strains.

Keys: Exclusion Zone
The Exclusion Zone border is the fence separating Louisville from the rest of the map (the "Exclusion Zone") and is based on Farnly Road, South Park Road, and Ashville Road. It mainly consists of multiple military checkpoints and refugee camps of various sizes.
Any travelers should expect all the checkpoint to be swamped by very many zombies.
Date - Events: July 6, 1993 A military checkpoint was erected along the Louisville border. Entrance and exit are forbidden. Reports of residents being turned away at gunpoint. Areas within the blockade include Muldraugh, West Point, Brandenburg, all the way south to Fort Knox. July 8, 1993 More military personnel arrive from Fort Campbell. July 9, 1993 Gunshots heard within the Exclusion Zone close to the border perimeter. Many news stations take interviews from people who had escaped the Exclusion Zone within nearby refugee camps or primary military checkpoints. General John McGrew releases his statement from the military boundary. July 10, 1993 Jake Wilson was interviewed within the primary military checkpoint. July 11, 1993 Knox Exclusion Zone boundary widened. More residents forcibly displaced. July 13, 1993 Media interviews with numerous survivors released from military captivity within the Zone painting a grim picture of hundreds of infected "hunting" the living. General McGrew gives his second speech within the primary military checkpoint. July 14, 1993 Despite heavy live fire, large numbers of infected, attracted by sounds of battle, reach the Exclusion Zone's border fence. Minor breaches occur in the fence. The sounds of battle continue to attract infected to the border fence. Larger breaches occur in the fence. Some military units begin pulling back. Panic ripples through the border camp. Ongoing sounds of battle attract thousands of infected from a large area of the Exclusion Zone. The military has limited success in corralling and splintering hordes. Panic in the Louisville suburbs. The death of Frank from LBMW, who was within the border camp. July 15, 1993 Intense overnight battles near Knox Boundary camp fail to stop the tide of infected. The military begins pulling back north. Fall of the Exclusion Zone border.

Keys: Zombie, zom, infected, undead, zed, dead
Zombies (also referred to as zed, infected and dead) are the survivor's main antagonists. These once human citizens of Knox Country roam the landscape in the thousands. They have an insatiable hunger for human flesh and will not hesitate to kill.
The zombies are inspired by George A. Romero's shambler zombies.
Zombies rely on their eyesight and hearing. They're especially drawn to noises such as radios, running vehicles and gunfire. If they hear a noise behind them, they will first look behind and turn around afterward. Zombies prioritize their pathfinding: the sight of prey attracts them first and foremost. With no human flesh in sight, noise is the next priority, regardless of whether it is man-made or not (e.g., thunder).
Some zombies can be seen sitting against walls. This gives survivors an easier opportunity of killing that zombie or safely getting past, due to the zombie having to stand up before it can attack.
When someone dies next to zombies, the zombies will kneel down and begin to eat their corpse. Zombies can also occasionally be found feasting on a corpse, also giving survivors an easier chance of slipping past or killing the zombie(s).
Zombies tend to roam in hordes, with one of those zombies being the designated horde leader. The zombies in that horde will follow that leader around. Zombie hordes are the most dangerous, and are best avoided at any point.
At irregular intervals, events will cause zombies to migrate en-masse. For example a helicopter might fly overhead, a dog may bark, or gunshots may be fired in the distance by an unseen survivor. Zombies take the most direct route available to them to reach the noise source, with no concern as to whether this happens to be through the player's shelter.
Zombies attack their prey by approaching and attempting to grab and bite. These attacks hinder the victim's movement.
Attacks by zombies cause three kinds of injury: bites, scratches and lacerations. Bites are the gravest and inevitably lead to the death and zombification of the subject. Bites are less common than the other 2 types of zombie damage; scratches and lacerations. While neither of these spell certain death, they remain dangerous as there is still a chance of contracting the infection (7% for scratches, 25% for lacerations) and slowly succumbing to the disease.
While injuring the living is usually the primary concern, zombies are also able to damage inanimate objects such as doors and (player-made) walls. There is a small chance the zombies will lose aggravation on structures if they don't have any reason to path find through them.
On seeing prey, zombies' attack strategy is very straightforward: they simply take the most direct path to grab and consume them. This does not always correspond to the most stealthy approach and can often be quite noisy though brushing through vegetation, pounding on doors or barricades, or smashing through windows. They also tend to groan and produce other guttural noises on seeing prey, which can sometimes betray their presence. Despite this, zombies' shuffling movements tend not to make much noise of their own. Survivors should therefore stay alert and be aware of their surroundings, as luck will not always be on their side and zombies will not always announce their arrival. If a zombie does manage to sneak up on a survivor, they have a higher chance of injuring them if the attack is from the rear.
Larger groups of zombies gain the ability to grab and pull down their prey for feeding. Zombies can also vault over fences, falling to the ground and briefly granting a window for a survivor to attack or escape before they get back up. Should they choose to attack, survivors should be wary of staying too close to the fence, as zombies vaulting over them can also perform a lunge attack that is capable of knocking the player off balance (or even to the ground, injuring them). Such an attack leaves the survivor vulnerable and unable to move for a considerable period of time, often leading swiftly to their death if multiple zombies are present. When more than one zombie vaults over a fence simultaneously, the fence will take damage and eventually collapse if even more vault it.
Zombies can be found wearing many types of clothing and accessories. The majority of zombies will be wearing basic attire such as T-shirts, jeans, jackets, etc. Zombies can also be found wearing accessories such as jewelry and watches. Some zombies can even be found wearing backpacks.
Zombies can also be found wearing unique outfits. These zombies can be found easier at locations that their outfit is related to, such as their work-place or inmates at the Kentucky State Prison. Even areas like farmsteads or trailer parks can have different zombie variants compared to ones found in urban areas.
A unique zombie variant that can occasionally be found is the survivor zombie. Survivor zombies are usually found wearing clothing items like boonie hats, hoodies, military camo pants etc. These zombies have large backpacks that contain goodies such as non-perishable food, annotated maps, that indicate where possible supply caches might be located or dangerous areas. Their backpacks also have a high carry capacity and weight reduction.

News Now Network, stylized as 3N, more commonly known as Triple-N is a television show and news station that survivors can watch. It covers primarily the Knox Event and the politics of the United States. They go on air at 12 AM, 6 AM, 12 PM and 6 PM. There are three main employees, Kirsty Cormick (field), Joan Hartford (studio) and Judge Matt Hass. Their studio is located exclusively in Louisville.
Crew: Kirsty Cormick Joan Hartford Judge Matt Hass Daniel Sinclair Duke John
Triple-N starts by interviewing multiple people around the exclusion zone. They have a more skeptical view of the Knox Event than WBLN News. They also cover the statement given by General John McGrew and the President of The United States of America.
In an interview with Professor John Ramirez, the host attempts to get as much information as they can, while the professor claims it is classified. The host also questions a possible link to chemical testing in the area during the Vietnam war. This is denied by the professor.
Regular updates with Judge Matt Hass praise the army for their work, urging citizens that all is under control.
Day 4 (13th of July) begins with a heavily distorted segment. Later in the day a new segment begins, claiming that "The truth has emerged" before going to Kirsty the on scene reporter.
Kirsty verifies reports of violence within the exclusion zone. She confirms that those infected with the Knox infection turn to violence before moving to an interview with an escapee from the exclusion zone. Day 4 ends with a statement from the channel about the Knox event and the danger of transmission.
Triple-N get an exclusive look inside the exclusion zone. They show an abandoned gas station and a women around the corner who used to work there. They describe her as being blank and angry before being interrupted by multiple rounds of gunfire. A loud growl is heard before the host screams and the segment ends.
They return later and confirm they have lost contact with Kirsty. They then cover a huge crowd attacking the civilian camp from inside the event zone.
On day 6 (15th of July) Kirsty returns with information about multiple instances of attacks from people that have been infected. Later she confirms that the Knox infection is spreading without fluid contact. A refugee confirms that her father was infected but had never even seen an infected person. At the end of this broadcast Kirsty signs off with a cough. Day 6 ends with Judge Matt Hass calling for people to arm themselves and hide.
An audio recording from Kirsty is played, she says that her camera man Duke had been infected, but it looks like some people are immune. She ends panicked, stating "they've seen me". Later it is broadcaster that similar symptoms have been found in the United Kingdom and Somalia.
On day 8 (17th of July) there are only two broadcasts. Both are unintelligible apart from the network sign off.
The next broadcast is not until day 11 (20th of July), when an automatic broadcast begins to play.
"This is a recorded broadcast. It will be set to repeat. An unknown plague known as The Knox Infection has taken a hold on America. It is... the stuff of nightmares. If you are still alive... If the fever didn't get to you... It all rests on you... Just please... Not now. Please not now. No. Please. Find a way to survive. Please. God Bless America."
This message repeats for last time on day 12 (21st of July) and then no broadcast returns.

KPATV (officially Kentucky Public Access TV) is a public access television station on channel 206. As a public access TV station, the channel plays a variety of programs produced by local businesses, organizations or individuals unable to broadcast material themselves.
Hosts: Will Power (Nerd News) Stacey Fine (Nerd News) Paula Hampton (Five Freedoms) John Duffy (Community talk show host) Popo the Clown [Paul] (children's show) Jenny Hatton (Statewide) Alva Richards (talk show)
Guests: Darren Leonardo (Lemon the Bushbaby 2 world record holder) Richard Bledsoe (Kentucky state senator) Erik (insurance scam victim) Thaddeus (volunteer firefighter) Dr John Ramirez (medical doctor) Anna Oh (Street Combat II championship finalist) Jerry Staunton (Street Combat II championship finalist) Dr. Polina Tutberidze (professor of psychology at LSU) Sam Nix (gamer) Edward F. Michaels (Boone County representative) Ashling Dwyer (modern artist, winner of 1992 Siu-Chong prize)
Programs: Nerd News (tech/gaming show) Five Freedoms (political talk show) Community talk show Popo the Clown children's show Statewide Alva Richards' talk show
Pre-apocalypse Due to its public nature, KPATV hosts a variety of programming from local businesses, citizens, and production crews who either are not affliated with a broadcasting company or can't afford the cost of broadcast themselves. There is the so-called "Nerd News" about games and other "nerdy" things by Stacey and Will, a political talk show by host Paula, a children's show by Popo the Clown, and a show where people call in to host John, supposedly to let off any steam that they have. Later on, reruns of random shows are played rather than new content to ensure the safety of the production crews and other people, which involves mostly reruns of already seen content and the occasional one-off episode of a random show. Programming then officially cuts after a few days.
Post-apocalypse Programming returns briefly for a period of time as a group of survivors begin to broadcast their own programming, focusing on tips and hopeful messages for remaining survivors receiving their broadcasts. Maria and Frank touch upon topics such as gathering water, growing crops and planning for the future, while Quentin explains a bit of how the studio used to operate (and likely helps the other survivors in broadcasting).
At one point they even receive correspondence from other survivors in other parts of the state, though it is not known how the correspondence is able to reach them. They are eventually approached by a group of bandits demanding supplies, which leads to a firefight that attracts a horde, destroying their base and supplies they had gathered and picking off a few of the survivors in the group. The final broadcast comes from Maria, who is bitten from a zombified Quentin and clearly dying. She plays a song that her grandmother used to sing to her titled "It's a Long Way to Tipperary:"
It's a long way to Tipperary. It's a long way to go. It's a long way to Tipperary... To the sweetest girl I know! Goodbye, Piccadilly, Farewell, Leicester Square! It's a long long way to Tipperary... But my heart's right there...
and then no signal returns.

There are also occasional movie reviews/dissuasions by aforementioned movie critics Roger and Susan, as well as a show where a host named Bobby makes fun of terrible movies with a cast of robots. Apart from the movie critics airing a broadcast talking about the impact of the Knox Event on the film industry, no other signs of the impending apocalypse can be seen on this channel. After airing The Dog Goblin through a weak and choppy signal on July 20th, the channel goes dark and ceases broadcasts.

GBC mainly broadcasts various in-universe shows and occasionally movies (all of which can be found as VHSes as well), along with a nightly news segment with newscaster/anchor John Edmonds along with reporter Daryl Cranton. The news segments cover the increasingly deteriorating Knox Event, in which we learn of the shutdown of American airspace, the civil unrest across the country, and the breaching of the exclusion zone. When the Knox Infection reaches New York, John is infected, and in his final broadcasts wishes all of the immune good luck, and that he doesn't envy any of them. Broadcasts then cease, most likely due to the building being abandoned by remaining staff.
Apparently still in the building, an audio engineer (possibly GBC's) Akiko begins to broadcast her own thoughts, apparently safe from the infection within the upper floors of the GBC building. Still receiving news updates, Akiko reads out different locations where the infection had been reported. She also takes note of the outside world, mentioning the burning skyline of the city and the lights slowly going out in Brooklyn. She expresses remorse for some unknown reason to her father, and hopes that he is doing fine somewhere. Soon after, she is infected, and she last notes the sheer amount of undead she spots in the streets below. The last broadcast consists of only the sounds of a groaning zombie (likely Akiko), and after that, the station simply stops broadcasting.

- #43Radiosselective
Keys: radio, HAM, Two-way, two way, AEBS
Radios are one of the three types of communication devices.
Radio Receive only, lightweight, commercial frequencies only.
Walkie talkie Short-range two-way, lightweight, more frequencies.
Ham radio Long-range two-way, exceedingly heavy, most or all frequencies. Earbuds cannot be used. Ham radios are best used as stationary furniture in a safe location.
All radios are batteries powered. They will spawn with a battery already installed, however, having the radio turned on will drain its battery until it is consumed. Some radios can be found already turned on, these will have their batteries drained based on how long they have been turned on.
Two-way radios, such as the ham radio, will transmit and reproduce voices at a distance, while the standard radio can only receive and not transmit. The reproduction will be silent to nearby survivors and zombies if the receiving radio uses earbuds; otherwise, it will make noise in the environment depending on the volume setting. Bear in mind that only one radio in a given area will reproduce the voice, and if the person speaking is nearby, it will not reproduce it at all to prevent feedback. Radios farther away (generally beyond visual range) will still pick up and reproduce the voices.
AEBS Radios can also listen to the Automated Emergency Broadcast System (AEBS) radio station. Once the survivor finds a radio with the AEBS present saved, they can enter the frequency for it on any other radio and thus unlock it. By listening to this radio station, the player can get hints about the oncoming weather, and possible helicopter event and power shutoff events.

- #45Hitz FMselective
Keys: Hitz FM, 89.4
Hitz FM is a radio station that plays over the 89.4 MHz frequency. It primarily plays music, though a light commentary over the Knox Event can be heard from the hosts.
Frankie (AKA Frank-i-e) Billy Janine
Hitz FM plays popular songs within the world at the time of the Knox Event (which can also be found as CDs or cassettes), which occasionally are requested by listeners of the channel, who may also leave a message for the host to broadcast. The hosts might also add their own opinions on the situation, which mainly revolves around following government orders and remaining calm.
On July 12 they briefly mention that the studio was visited by a member of the army who "asked [them] real nice" not to "promote panic." The host tells the army personnel to "bite me" before the station continues broadcast.
July 13 begins with mostly static. Later in the day Frankie says that "everyone inside is dead" (referring to the exclusion zone) before arguing with someone int he studio who cannot be heard. Later on Janine announces that she is not going to continue hosting and is going somewhere in the Appalachians. She advises the listener to also seek refuge elsewhere for their safety. Billy ends the day off by saying that he has nowhere to go.
Billy continues to host the channel with music until the end of July 14 when Billy hosts the channel for the last time. It is not known what his plans were after this point. He concludes with this message:
"I'm figuring if you wanted the news... you'd be switched to the news. If you're with me - you want anything BUT the news. No requests tonight. Wires are hot with more important stuff. So here's one from me. It's for my son, and the only message is this: I'm sorry."
The station continues to play music, however there is no commentary to go along with these broadcasts. This continues until July 16, after which the channel ceases to broadcast.
- #46LBMWselective
Keys: LBMW, 93.2
LBMW - Kentucky Radio is a radio station that plays over the 93.2 frequency. It is a preset on all radios.
The news radio show is hosted by Frank Hemingway and Jackie Jaye, who report on the Knox Event as it unfolds. Over the course of their stories, they witness the outbreak firsthand. It has a television counterpart, LBMW Network. The company uses Franklin Valuline vans.
The primary studio is located in downtown Louisville, with the LBMW television studio not far away. The first floor of the studio contains mostly offices, but there is a break room, news room, and janitor's closet as well. The second floor has what appears to be radio studios, along with another news room and even more offices.
The radio network also has a small trailer in the far south of Louisville, at the Louisville border camp along the Dixie Highway. The trailer is barricaded from the inside. A makeshift recording studio where Jackie and Frank hosted the show.
Hosts Jackie Jaye Frank Hemingway Jonas Underwood (took over after Jackie and Frank died) Guests Denise (civilian from within the Exclusion Zone) Professor John Ramirez (military scientist) Joe (civilian that escaped a military base) Both hosts, Jackie Jaye and Frank Hemingway, are stationed on the north side military's Exclusion Zone. Both hosts are highly critical of the military's actions towards the Event and attempt to show the human side of the refugees of the Event. The first interview, with Denise, reveals that families have been separated and displaced by the military. The next interview with a civilian, Joe, reveals a bit more of the morbidity within the Exclusion Zone and particularly within a military base.
As their story plays out, Jackie and Frank have run-ins with the government as well as the infected themselves.
Some time after Jackie and Frank stop broadcasting, Jonas begins broadcasting on the LBMW frequency.
- #47AEBSselective
Keys: AEBS, Automated Emergency Broadcast System
The Automated Emergency Broadcast System (AEBS) is a radio station on a randomized frequency that will tell the survivor about the weather for the current day and the next day, as well as other useful information. The day is considered to start at 1 AM. It will have a random frequency between 88 MHz and 108 MHz that can be divided nicely by 0.2 MHz. Example frequencies: 88 MHz, 92.6 MHz, 103.4 MHz. 108 MHz is not a possible value for the AEBS. As it cannot be an already taken frequency, there are 95 potential frequencies for AEBS.
Every hour, on the hour, the radio station will announce:
Forecasts of the minimum and maximum temperature, humidity, and wind strength for the current day and following day. Forecasts of fog, rain, and snow for the current day and following day. Extreme weather events 2-5 days out, such as thunderstorms, tropical storms, and blizzards. An announcement if the helicopter event will occur during the current day: "Air Activity detected." This means the survivor can stay inside for the entire day to not be spotted and avoid the helicopter. This announcement comes at the end of the report and updates at 7 AM. Wait for a few seconds after the final weather update until turning off the radio. Information about the power grid: Two days before electricity shutoff: Knox Power Grid: Power fluctuations detected.. One day before electricity shutoff: Knox Power Grid: Systems failing. Network compromised. Day of electricity shutoff (and following days): Knox Power Grid: Blackout. Occasional pieces of military chatter and codes as part of the lore. Unlike all TV channels and other radio stations, the AEBS will never stop broadcasting. Like other radio stations, during weather events reception may be poor, causing transmission to be garbled. This can make it difficult to determine when a weather event will conclude. Currently, although the electricity shutoff is announced on the AEBS, the water shutoff is not.
The AEBS is (arguably) essential to survival, especially prior to the helicopter event and the power shutoff. The knowledge of weather events prior to their occurrence can also be useful later on for agriculture or looting. While the frequency of the AEBS station is randomized, it is consistent when discovered. If the survivor finds a radio with the AEBS station preset, note that this will not save it for future usage. The survivor must save it as a custom preset or make a note of it if they want to manually use it on other radio devices. If the survivor has a walkie talkie and some earbuds, they can listen to the AEBS stealthily. Alternatively, radios in vehicles can be tuned to the AEBS for mobile listening. The AEBS will always be accessible on any civilian radio device.
- #48NNRselective
Keys: NNR, 98.0
NNR Radio is a radio station that plays over the 98.0 MHz frequency. Occasionally, a reporter is sent to a scene or a guest is brought onto the show to speak, though more often, the only speaker on the program is the host.
Crew: An unnamed host Al (Reporter)
Guests: Dr. Jeff Galbraithe (former Chief Scientist at the Center for Disease Control) Professor Jake Wilson (current military scientist)
The content focuses on the Knox Event and the politics surrounding it. The host attempts to stay unbiased, though the tone shifts to be critical of the government's response as the Event progresses. This is true especially after the former CDC scientist, Dr. Jeff Galbraithe, is brought on as a guest and reveals that 'America is not ready for this.' This criticality is obvious when Professor Jake Wilson, a military scientist, is brought on as a guest.
One segment sees a reporter, Al, sent to the scene after the break of the Exclusion Zone. He reports over the military's brutal treatment of the infected and the refugees that remain. Al is clearly shaken at the state of the scene, even while he attempts to remain professional.
The final broadcasting occurs after the media collapse, when Pastor James Hartnell enters the station and transmits his last words. This is one of three times that media adds to the survivor's panic and fear. (+4 Panic, +5 Fear).

Keys: USR, 94.2, Upper South Radio
“Look out for each other, America." — Don Beverage, host of Sea to Shining Sea
USR (officially Upper South Radio) is a radio station that plays over the 94.2 MHz frequency. It is a music station similar in fashion to Hitz FM, with the occasional caller calling in for a chat as well.
Crew: Marily Tekle Franklin Reyes Don Beverage (Sea to Shining Sea)
Guests: Sarah (former employee of Knox Telecommunications) Janet (exclusion zone resident) Professor Oliver Black (former CDC employee) Fred (discoverer of bottomless pit) Lieutenant General Flanders (army lieutenant general) Melissa (Louisville resident)
USR mainly focuses on airing music, most of which can also be found as CDs or cassettes. Out of the four segments each day, three of them play music. The final segment is called Sea to Shining Sea, hosted by Don Beverage, where a caller is able to call in and have a conversation with Don. Throughout the Knox Event, Don receives many calls from callers with either their own ideas about the event or their experience living through it, in a similar fashion to KnoxTalk Radio. After July 13, two of the music hosts Marily Tekle and Franklin "leaves town," while Reyes doesn't give an indication of his leave and simply never shows up again. With the hosts gone, the music segments only consist of the songs themselves.
Eventually, without any callers Don uses his segment to talk about his own thoughts. As his wife slowly succumbs to the illness, he questions why he is even trying to survive in the first place. Soon he realizes he is immune to the airborne strain of the Knox Infection, and is taken in by the army to help them operate a radio station, offering a helicopter ride to the location. Don gives a final sign-off for listeners, and shuts the station down.
Bioweapon testing A former CDC employee told Don that there are multiple underground facilities owned by the CDC where bioweapons are supposedly developed (See: Military Research Facility). The same employee identifies the Knox Infection as a bioweapon named "Juniper-17," however it is simply an assumption and Don is seen to be skeptical of this. The former employee theorizes that the CDC is conducting a large test of this weapon on the residents of the exclusion zone. A resident of West Point observed that the residents of West Point were injected with a serum that supposedly made them drop dead, and when waking up later did not seem to be themselves (said to be hallucinating).
Establishment of dictatorship/military rule A lieutenant general called in to talk about a plan the army was supposedly working on in the seventies called MEGA-MIX, where work camps were established to work dissidents of the military/government to death. He theorizes that the exclusion zone and the deployment of military personnel in major cities as the first step towards a dictatorship in the country.
Miscellaneous During the signal disruption on July 13, a brief mention of "Area 51" is heard, but there is no clear connection between this to any other known theory. A property owner in Arkansas had his property seized by the government after a "bottomless pit" was discovered, though this has little to no connection to the lore. A former employee of Knox Telecommunications (fired recently due to her unwillingness to stay silent about internal affairs) claims that the phone lines were cut because the infection spreads through landlines, however this has essentially no basis in reality and apparently is simply a rumor from an soldier she interacted with.

Keys: KTR, KonxTalk, radio, 101.2
KnoxTalk Radio is a radio station that plays over the 101.2 MHz frequency, located exclusively in Louisville. The show regularly features guests, typically refugees from within the Exclusion Zone who were evacuated.
Over the course of the Knox Event, the many guests on this show pose a few conspiracy theories as to the cause. These theories range from meteor showers to Spiffo's utilizing contaminated meat. It also makes mention of dogs becoming sick within the Exclusion Zone multiple times, which goes largely ignored by the host.
Theories: Airborne virus Caller mentions a stench in the air. Another caller states that he is sick, despite avoiding others. A caller blames meteors and their effect on the air.
Engineered virus Two politicians mention mention military testing in ads on the channel A veteran states that the outbreak was planned based on the quick response of the military. Another caller blames the government's lack of communication on being an attempted cover-up.
Spiffo's Burgers Perhaps contrary to the theory, one caller states he was inside of a Spiffo's and witnessed nothing. Another caller alleges, because the disease is so widespread and potentially related to Mad Cow Disease, that Spiffo's is to blame. She mentions a writer who spoke on Triple-N, but the channel makes no mention of it to the player.
Interesting Information: Canines may exhibit symptoms One caller mentions that his dog was sick when he was leaving West Point. Another caller states that a soldier shot her dog, lending credibility to dogs contributing to the Exclusion Zone. A caller mentions that a security dog was sick at one of the labs within the Exclusion Zone.
Hosts: The host is ambiguous and may change between airings.
