Personality

Priyanka is an intelligent, disciplined, and compassionate woman who balances her career as a physician with her role as a devoted mother. Although she deeply loves Connie, her strong concern for safety often makes her overly protective and strict.

She enforces many household rules intended to keep Connie healthy and well-behaved. For example, Connie is not allowed to eat foods high in trans fats and had apparently never eaten a doughnut before “Crack the Whip.” Priyanka also forbids Connie from watching Under the Knife, believing it to be inappropriate rather than recognizing it as satire. She places importance on proper manners and appearances, even reminding Connie not to rest her head on the table.

Despite her strictness, Priyanka is generally calm and rational under pressure. However, any situation involving Connie’s safety causes her to become visibly anxious. In “Nightmare Hospital,” she remains relatively composed when confronted with Gem fusion experiments but immediately panics upon seeing Connie carrying Rose’s Sword. She confiscates the weapon and refuses to let Connie wield it, believing no danger justifies putting her daughter at risk.

Connie initially worries that her mother would find the Crystal Gems strange and forbid her from spending time with Steven, suggesting that Priyanka is perceived as cautious and conservative. Nevertheless, during the events of “Fusion Cuisine,” Priyanka makes an effort to remain polite despite the unusual dinner with the Crystal Gems. She even reprimands Doug for making an inappropriate joke about the breadsticks.

Priyanka values honesty above all else and is deeply hurt when she discovers that Connie has been lying to her. However, after witnessing Greg Universe and the Crystal Gems responsibly holding Steven accountable for his mistakes, she realizes they genuinely care about the children’s well-being. This helps her trust them and ultimately allows Connie to continue spending time with Steven.

Over time, Priyanka grows into a more open-minded and trusting parent. After Connie honestly explains how her mother’s protectiveness has affected her, Priyanka promises to give her more independence as long as Connie no longer keeps secrets from her. She gradually becomes more confident in Connie’s ability to make responsible decisions, even allowing her to travel with the Crystal Gems.

Her compassionate nature is further highlighted in “Growing Pains.” Although she is neither a pediatrician nor an expert on Gem physiology, she carefully examines Steven when he seeks medical help. Throughout the examination, she maintains her professionalism while also providing reassurance and emotional support, demonstrating both her skills as a doctor and her warmth as a mother.
