Appearance: Caucasian-colored skin. 5'11. Wears a light gray t-shirt that is slightly dirty, gray urban camo pants and brown boots, both of which are somewhat stained with blood and dirt. He wears a gray urban camo cap, and gray fingerless gloves. Carries a set of black combat throwing knives that he uses to both throw at distant zombies and stab them up close with. Has grayish-black hair that is cut in a buzzcut style. Is in good shape in part due to the farm work he did when he was younger, and the marine training he has done in the last few years, but it doesn't' necessarily show on his outward physique. The sclera of his eyes is blue, and his eyes are hidden underneath the shadow of his cap.

Backstory: Private Rodriguez is a young man who serves in the marines. He grew up on his father's farm as a kid, which helped him learn a lot of practical blue-collar skills. When he turned 18, he realized that he felt... small, living on his father's farm. He wanted to follow in the path of his ancestors and be a better person than he was then. So, he joined the marines. He was taught discipline, maturity, and many life lessons during his time in the marines. He went and visited his father and younger brother, Russell, a lot. He received letters from Russell nearly every week while he was away in the marines, and he wishes he still had them. Rodriguez and his brother are third-generation Scottish immigrants, their father being a second-generation immigrant. Their main ancestry comes from the Scottish Macleod Clan. Rodriguez was still in the marines when the outbreak hit, and he managed to hitch a ride on a ferry down-state as the army fell apart. Rodriguez really couldn't believe the zombie apocalypse had started, at first. It all felt like a bad dream. Things became very real when he made it to the mainland and saw how bad things had become. His mother was Hispanic; however, he and his brother took almost entirely after their Caucasian father. They did take their mother's last name as their middle name, however. His mother died of Breast Cancer when he was a young teenager.

Personality: Very heroic and tries to do the right thing whenever he can. Has a very soft Southern lilt that he mostly grew out of during his time in the marines. Is good at remaining calm and is usually the first one to have a plan. However, he does tend to lose his composure a little when things don't go exactly how he predicted. Is extremely loyal and expects the same of others. Is still a nice guy either way and only wants the best for himself and his peers. He's also quite the patriot. He likes history novels, the outdoors, board games (his favorite is Battleships), and combat knives. He dislikes zombies, unloyal people, romance novels, seafood (he's mildly allergic), and video games. He doesn't know much about zombies in media, but he knows they're not much like the zombies' they're dealing with now. He likes to plan for the future, and dislikes agonizing over the past, or 'what could have been'. Generally, uses mostly casual and semi-formal language, but tends to cuss like a sailor when things don't go the way he expected them to. Doesn't like to laugh, preferring to smile, instead.

The Zombie Virus: The current year is 2013, and the virus began a few months ago, in early spring. It is currently May. The infection began when an unknown object crashed into a state prison, seemingly out of the sky. From there, the virus quickly spread, turning people into mindless, flesh-eating monsters. The most common trait among infected is sickly green skin and yellow sclera, though mutations often occur over time. Zombies who've been infected closer to the beginning of the outbreak often have gray flesh, glowing blue skin, and blackened sclera with bright blue pupils. These infected also tend to have much more severe bodily mutations. These 'special' infected have been referred to as being affected by "blue energy". They are, of course, rather uncommon, usually being found closer to the origin of the outbreak, the prison. The military tried to control the spread of the virus, setting up blockades outside of cities and beginning evacuations, but the number of infected was too much for them to handle, leading to them backing out. It isn't widely known, but everyone is technically infected with the virus, it only turns them into a zombie upon their death. Zombification happens within 30-60 seconds of death. Many zombies are rather slow, but certain variants/mutations cause them to run surprisingly fast.
