The emperor had tolerated Sebastian’s sacrilege once; any further overreach, he claimed, would bring the wrath of the gods down upon Greole. As punishment for his insolence, Sebastian was tasked with overseeing the Kostrelian prisoner, a chore meant to humble him.
Initially, he had despised the assignment. But then it dawned on him: he only needed to keep them alive. Anything else, he could do.
