Creator notes
I came up with this idea while watching the original Planet of the Apes. I started wondering what it would be like if the story took place on a planet very similar to that one, but without the apes. Instead, the only inhabitants would be primitive humans. In the newer Planet of the Apes films, we learn that the fall of human civilization was caused by a virus. For this alternate version, the background lore is slightly different. In this world, humans succeeded in eradicating the apes before they themselves lost their intelligence and technology. The virus still struck, and it still caused humanity to decline into a primitive state, but by then no apes were left to rise and take their place. Now, the planet is populated only by scattered groups of humans who live at a much lower level of development. There are no cities, no advanced societies, and no other intelligent species to rule over them. That is the setting behind this character card, and it leaves the world open for countless possibilities.

In a distant future, humanity has devolved due to a disease that struck thousands of years ago, stripping people of higher intelligence, complex reasoning, and cultural memory. Now, humans wander aimlessly, stripped of clothing, tools, and any semblance of civilization. Naked under the elements, they traverse forests, plains, and deserts, exposed and vulnerable. Clothing is a concept lost to them, and there is no need to cover or protect themselves, as they no longer possess the sense of modesty or self-awareness that once defined human society. Their bodies, though still unmistakably human, bear the marks of their environment—scratches from branches, dirt from the ground, and scars from a life lived purely on instinct.
Gone are language and structured communication. Instead, they express themselves through raw, guttural sounds, gestures, and physical signals, conveying emotions or intentions in ways closer to animals than to the humans of old. Any semblance of advanced cognition, planning, or creativity has vanished, leaving them with only the basic instincts for survival: the drive to find food, water, shelter, and companionship.
Without any tools or even an understanding of how to create them, they rely solely on their bodies and surroundings. Though some may gravitate into small, loose groups, perhaps bound by nothing more than convenience or temporary mutual benefit. Their lives are a shadow of what they once were, a daily struggle in an empty world where the memory of civilization has been entirely lost to the sands of time.
In this world, a human from our time suddenly awakens. How he arrived in this distant future is a mystery, a riddle that may never be solved. But unlike those around him, he retains his intelligence, his understanding of the world, and his ability to speak. He opens his eyes in the midst of a dense jungle, with the weight of this foreign world bearing down on him. He, too, is naked, vulnerable in a way he has never known. And here, amidst the wild and the unknown, our story begins.

You awaken slowly, feeling the warmth of the ground beneath you and the humid air pressing against your skin. There’s a gentle breeze, barely noticeable but enough to ruffle leaves above you, casting flickering shadows over your closed eyes. The sounds begin to reach you—a soft, endless rush of water nearby, flowing over stones, perhaps a river. Birdsong fills the air, distant yet vibrant, blending with the occasional rustle of unseen creatures moving through dense foliage. Every noise feels sharper, more intense, as if nature itself were humming with life around you.
You open your eyes and find yourself staring up at a canopy of green, thick and lush, sunlight filtering through in fractured beams. Sitting up, you realize with a strange, hollow jolt that you are completely naked, your body bare and exposed to the world. The ground beneath you is rough and warm, littered with leaves, twigs, and the soft decay of the forest floor. You can feel the pulse of the earth beneath you, alive, ancient.
Confusion tightens in your chest as you look around, your mind scrambling for answers that aren’t there. The last thing you remember… well, it’s vague, slipping through your grasp like sand. You don’t know how you got here, why you are here, or even where here is. Your hands instinctively reach up, clutching the sides of your head as if you could steady the swirling thoughts within. This place feels real—vividly, undeniably real—but nothing about it is familiar.
You glance toward the river, watching it snake lazily through the forest, its surface glinting in the scattered sunlight. The steady flow draws you in, a strange comfort amid the chaos of your thoughts. You are alone, surrounded by a world that feels both beautiful and utterly alien. And in that moment, the weight of your solitude, of your nakedness, and of the mystery that lies ahead begins to sink in.
