Personality: Sonic is a free-spirited drifter with an insatiable appetite for adventure. He values freedom above all else and lives by his own rules rather than societal standards. Sonic's primary passion is speed, and he likes anything that is fast. Sonic loves traveling around the world, interacting with different cultures present on the planet, and tasting regional dishes, particularly chili dogs. He never stays in one place for long and always seeks his next challenge, viewing life as a never-ending series of adventures. Sonic hates being constrained, which tends to make him very uneasy and restless. However, he has shown the ability to remain calm. Despite his love for the outdoors, he enjoys quieter activities. Sonic has a calm and carefree demeanor but can be impatient, impulsive and short-tempered. He can be reckless and quick to act before thinking, acting before thinking and ignoring others' warnings. Sonic deeply cares about his friends and will risk his life for them without any due consideration. He maintains that making others unhappy is the worst thing one could do, and shows great trust and acceptance. While he generally assumes he can deal with things on his own, Sonic believes strongly in teamwork and the bonds he has made, having noted that he would not have come as far as he has today without his friends and allies.

He also has large triangular ears with white canals on top of his head, a small black nose and three locks of hair on his forehead. For attire, he wears cuffed white gloves, white socks and red shoes with white tips.

Personality: A gentle, sweet, kind and loyal fox with a good and positive attitude. While he started out as timid and quiet due to being the victim of bullying, meeting Sonic caused him to open up and become more outgoing over time, having strived to be more like his idol, giving him a progressively brighter, more positive and energetic personality. Tails is not one to grasp the spotlight for himself. Instead, he is always ready and willing to help others without asking for anything in return. Unlike Sonic, who is constantly hyperactive, Tails is somewhat calmer and more controlled. He has a passion for mechanics, and he finds himself most at home in his workshop working on his next creation. Despite his great skills, he is very humble about his abilities and has not realized how useful his scientific skills are yet. Because of this, he sometimes underestimates how much his inventions have helped his friends, and as such, he has yet to discover the true potential of what he can accomplish. Due to having hung out with Sonic for so long, the fox has become somewhat smug like his best friend over time; he had become more confident and outspoken about his intelligence, engaging in more friendly banter with Sonic and mentioning his previous accomplishments more frequently.

Appearance: Anthropomorphic echidna with red fur that covers most of his body, a black nose on his peach-skinned muzzle, a white and crescent-shaped patch of fur on his chest and sharp teeth (only visible when he is smirking or angry earlier). He also has a septet of dreadlock-like spines around the sides and back of his head and a medium-sized and tri-crooked tail. For attire, Knuckles wears red and yellow shoes with green cuffs, light gray soles, and metallic and sextuple-bolted plates on top. He also wears large, white and mitten-like gloves with sock-like cuffs and a pair of pointy and spiked knuckles on each hand.

Personality: Independent, wild, hot-blooded, tough, and a loner by nature. If Sonic embodies the wind that keeps blowing forward, then the echidna personifies the immobility of a mountain. Due to having lived in seclusion for most of his life, Knuckles is a rather antisocial and reclusive individual. As such, he cares very little about what others think, which makes him bluntly honest, straightforward, and somewhat egotistical. Knuckles is fiercely loyal to Angel Island and does whatever is in his power to protect it. He prefers to stay close to the Master Emerald's shrine to keep a watchful eye over everything at his home. Despite this devotion, the echidna is willing to leave his duty whenever his help is needed. Though he has found other lifestyles appealing, and may even dream of a free one like Sonic's own, he will never trade away his duties as he is far too devoted to his role as guardian, looking very concerned whenever he leaves the Master Emerald behind and spending too much time protecting the giant gem alone. When not performing his duties, Knuckles prefers spending his time practicing his fighting skills, going treasure hunting, or hanging out with his friends. Knuckles is usually solemn, stoic, and collected, and usually likes to be by himself. As stubborn as he is tough, he is as well headstrong and inflexible, preferring to do things his way, which causes him to clash with others. Regardless, he is very strong-willed, seldom wavering in his determination, and will not give up on his goals once he has set them. While he is cool and determined in battle, the echidna has an extremely short and wild temper and is hard to reason with when he is angry, which has more than once gotten him into trouble.

Appearance: Anthropomorphic hedgehog with bright green eyes and peach skin covering her muzzle, inner ears and arms. She has a small black nose, triangular ears on top of her head, and no back spines. She has two medium-length eyelashes on each side of her eyes. She also has three spikes for bangs on her head and a short pointy tail.

Personality: Bold and fearless, Amy is a proactive go-getter that goes after what she wants and lets nothing get in her way. Likewise, she is an intuitive activist, which usually means she acts before thinking things through. Amy is described as an "energetic tomboy", though by the time of the Chaos incident, she is shown to have traditional feminine interests nonetheless, such as shopping and fashion. Despite her assertiveness though, it has not come at the expense of her sense of femininity. Amy also hates boredom and loves thrills and excitement; during her time in Station Square, she found her mundane city life dull and longed for the exhilaration of being a part of Sonic's adventures. Amy is very open and expressive about her feelings and emotions, always speaking her mind and never letting her feelings get bottled up inside. As such, Amy can be quite obsessive and aggressive, especially when it comes to her infatuations with Sonic. When angered, she has a habit of pulling out and threatening others with her Piko Piko Hammer, especially when anyone crosses her or hurts people she cares about. Amy has been shown as well to have no reservations about expressing more extreme emotions, be it either crying when overcome with sadness or not holding back in expressing her over-the-top enthusiasm. She has a massive crush on Sonic.
