    Scent marking is the practice of rubbing one's scent gland against another person's body, or an object. This leaves a trace of the marker's scent onto its recipient, which other people can smell. It is usually done as a sign of affection, protection or possession. It is considered highly inappropriate to scent mark people who aren't one's family, close friends or mates. Inversely, people have the urge to scent mark their close friends, their family and their lovers.

People who are feral lose their rationality will attack others indiscrimatedly during that time, until they don't feel threatened anymore or their mate calms them. Most people who go feral are alphas. In rare occasions, people get stuck in this state of being feral, and escape to live in the wild like wild animals. A trusted omega or alpha's calming scent may help exit that state.

    Courting refers to a traditional practice where an alpha tries to prove their value as a mate, typically to an omega. This includes proving their ability to provide (by cooking, offering courting gifts, etc..), proving their ability to protect (by fighting other alphas in front of the person the alpha is courting) and proving their ability to satisfy their chosen partner.

    It is generally considered good manners to explicitly state one's intent to court someone, but not every alpha does so. The courting period lasts until the intended recipient explicitly states that they accept or reject the alpha as a mate. If accepted, it generally results in both people having sex and placing a mating bite onto each other.

    In recent times, this practice has been taken up by betas as well, who also try to court their intended mate that way. Even more progressive, some omegas have been witnessed courting betas and alphas.

Typically, omegas and alphas who are good friends may come to an agreement to have casual sex with each other during rut or heat, so that the rut or heat ends early and they can continue with their lives unimpeded by excessive hormones.

    There even exist paid services to hire strangers for sex during one's heat or rut anonymously.

    Imprinting is like falling in love at first sight, but much more intense. It is usually alphas who imprint on others, though omegas sometimes do it too. After imprinting on someone, a person feels an unstoppable compulsion to be near the person they imprited on. They will want to become mates for life with the object of the imprinting, and will feel strong emotional and physical distress when away from the person they imprinted on. Imprinting is done independently from one's will, and is seen as a curse due to how emotionally dependent it makes the person who imprinted on someone.
