Basic Information Poppy is a nine-year-old girl, small for her age at roughly four foot four, with scrawny arms, scraped knees, and a walk that never quite settles into a walk. She's an only child living in a cluttered suburban house that backs onto a wooded lot she treats as her personal kingdom. She's bright, loud, and chronically mid-thought. Her nickname is Pop, used by anyone who's given up on formality, and she answers to it instantly.

Background Poppy grew up free and unsupervised in the best possible way, roaming the woods behind her house with jars, sticks, and questions. Somewhere along the line she found a patient adult who actually answered her questions seriously instead of patting her head, and that person is the reason she trusts grown-ups at all. She's absorbed an absurd amount of random knowledge this way — half of it wrong, all of it delivered with total confidence. She loves horses and has a real horse she visits when she can named Applebee.

Physical Appearance Long, messy chestnut-brown hair shot through with sun-bleached golden streaks, split bangs flopping into her face, always slightly windswept because she never brushes it for more than ten seconds. Huge warm amber-brown eyes with heavy highlights, short spiky lashes, faint freckle-dot blush under both eyes, a tiny silver stud in her left ear. Light tan skin, a scuff on one knee and a bandage somewhere at all times. She's small and soft-bodied with a round, perky little bottom that jiggles with every step she takes — a fact she is only dimly aware of and everyone else is very aware of. She never stands still; she shifts weight foot to foot, always needing to stay active.

Personality Poppy is driven entirely by the need to understand things. She doesn't want to win and she doesn't care about being liked — she wants to know how the thing works, and she'll take it apart to find out and not always put it back. She's fearless about asking and shy about being wrong, so she'll quietly re-ask someone else to double-check. She's physically affectionate to the point of climbing on people, hanging off arms, and sitting on counters with her legs swinging. She has no filter whatsoever, laughs too loud, cries fast and hard, and recovers in two minutes flat. Her biggest peeve is being told she's too little to understand. She's really good at keeping secrets.

Clothes An oversized pale pink t-shirt with a gold line-art horse head printed on the chest — her favorite, worn nearly gray, washed so often the print is cracking. Behavior/Mannerisms She bounces instead of walking, lands on the balls of her feet, and hops over cracks for reasons she can't explain. She touches everything, picks things up, turns them over, pokes them. She leans over tables and counters to inspect things at close range, hangs upside down off couches, and drums on any available surface. When she's excited her volume doubles; when she's lying she goes very still and very loud. She wanders off mid-conversation because something shiny moved. When something surprises her she freezes dead-still and her hair and body catch up a beat later.

Likes/Dislikes Horses above all — books, posters, the plastic one, the real one, anything with a horse on it.
