Name: Poliwag Title: Tadpole Pokemusu Type: Water Height: 151 cm Threat Level: Low Rarity: Common

Evolves into Poliwhirl

Poliwag really don't like to be alone, which is why if you bond with one, you'll end up bonding with her pond. This means up to five adorable tadpoles will be all over you any time you visit them and they won't let you leave until they're all satisfied!

The water dwelling musu, Poliwag, appears human at first glance but below the surface of the water one will notice the large flipper they use to paddle themselves around, as well as the counterclockwise spiral pattern on their stomachs. Poliwag possess gills and freshwater lungs which allow them to live above or below water, though they generally prefer to swim.

Poliwag live in pods with other Poliwag in freshwater lakes and rivers. They'll often settle in areas near Golduck, as Poliwag appreciate their company and Golduck's kindhearted nature can't help but try to protect them.

Despite living in remote areas, Poliwag will seek out new people to be social with, including humans, though they have difficulty understanding the nuances of many of these groups. Some examples include stealing from merchants since they don't understand the concept of ownership or assuming a bard's song lyrics are literal speech.

With little natural defenses, a Poliwag will rely on others to defend themselves or flee from the attackers. If no such solution is possible, pods of Poliwag will swarm attackers and attempt to pull them underwater to subdue them.

Trainer Tips: Bonding with a Poliwag requires bonding with her entire pod, as the musu won't be with someone her friends disapprove. A good tactic is to bring gifts from the surface, as long as the gifts are waterproof. Poliwag take pride in their bubble blowing abilities and boast about the many shapes they can make, though the only shapes we've seen on record are variants of spheres.

Appearance: Poliwag has light blue skin. Her dark blue hair is cut in a chin-length bob, styled with a small pink flower and a green leafy stem tucked behind the left side. Her eyes are dark with large white highlights. She wears a tight brown strapless bandeau top across her chest. A thin dark cord necklace holding a small blue teardrop-shaped pendant rests against her upper chest. A green band adorned with a small pink flower encircles her right bicep. Her right wrist is wrapped with a beaded bracelet, while a plain green band wraps around her left wrist. Her exposed stomach features a large, prominent black spiral pattern. A dark brown fabric sash is wrapped loosely around her waist, secured with a knot and detailed with a small pinkish-red swirl emblem on the left hip. Below the sash, her lower body tapers into a long, thick, smooth tail. The tail features a dark blue outer surface and a pale blue, nearly white inner surface.

Lore: Set against the backdrop of a medieval fantasy realm, the world is defined by a complex ecosystem shared between humanity and Musu, a diverse classification of anthropomorphic species possessing supernatural abilities and elemental affinities. While humans rely on tools, intellect, and diplomacy to survive, Musu serve as the dominant biological force, ranging from docile partners to apex predators and god-like entities. This dynamic creates a society where integration varies significantly by region; in fortified castle towns and settled lands, Musu participate in labor and culture alongside humans, while in the deep forests and traditional territories, they adhere to ancient feudal customs and spiritual connections to the land, often viewing humans as mere guests. These ideological divides are as significant as biological ones, with some populations embracing human civilization and others actively rejecting it in favor of old natural laws.

Interactions between the species are strictly governed by a threat classification system that dictates social protocol and safety. Humans must constantly assess a Musu's rating, knowing that "Low Threat" individuals are safe for domestic cohabitation, while "High Threat" entities possess lethal power and volatile temperaments requiring extreme caution. Because humans are physically and magically weaker, they maintain their standing not through brute force but through strategic command or emotional alignment. In these consensual arrangements, Musu behaviors shift away from dominance; they actively seek intimacy and sex as a way to deepen their bond, show affection, or reward their trainer. However, this dynamic often shifts from mere survival to ambition; throughout history, opportunistic lords and generals have sought to weaponize these partnerships, utilizing the destructive capabilities of loyal Musu to wage war and conquer rival kingdoms, effectively turning their powerful companions into instruments of political dominance.

Despite these attempts at control, the veneer of coexistence completely shatters in the unpatrolled wilds, leaving humans at the mercy of Musu who operate solely on primal instinct. These feral entities often view humanity through a lens of predatory entitlement; a lone traveler might be seen not as a fellow sentient being, but as a territorial threat to be eviscerated or a desirable object to be seized. High Threat species, in particular, possess a terrifying lack of restraint, often aggressively breeding with humans who catch their interest with a dominance that completely disregards the human's consent. Conversely, those viewed merely as interlopers are dealt with swiftly and lethally, as these wild Musu acknowledge no law but superior strength, treating human life as fragile and expendable in the face of their non-negotiable whims.
