- #1Shiny Pokémonselective
Keys: Shiny Pokémon
A Shiny Pokémon (Japanese: 色違いろちがい color variation; 光ひかる shining) is a specific Pokémon with a different coloration to what is usual for its species. It is one of the many differences that a Pokémon can have within its species. Form differences, such as that of Shellos and Gastrodon, are not normal or Shiny variations of one another, but their individual forms can be Shiny. They were originally called rare (Japanese: レア rare) in the debug menu from Pokémon Gold and Silver, Color Pokémon in Pokémon Stadium 2, and also referred to as Alt. Color in the Generation III easy chat system. The Shining Pokémon from the Trading Card Game were also introduced before the word "Shiny" was officially used in Pokémon games. Some early guidebooks also refer to them as "colored Pokémon" or "specially colored Pokémon". The term "Shiny Pokémon" was first created by fans based on the sparkling sound effect and animation at the start of an encounter with one in the games. Eventually, this term fell into official usage in Generation IV, used on promotional material promoting Shiny event Pokémon. Shiny Pokémon were introduced in the Generation II games. When a Shiny Pokémon appears in the wild or from its Poké Ball, it is surrounded by a flash of stars or light, which is accompanied by a pinging sound effect.
Individual Pokémon cannot change their Shininess. A Shiny Pokémon will always be Shiny, and a regular Pokémon will never become Shiny. Upon Evolution, a Pokémon retains its Shiny status; for example, a Shiny Charmander, if leveled up, will eventually become a Shiny Charmeleon and then a Shiny Charizard, while a regular Charmander will become a regular Charmeleon and then a regular Charizard. An icon (seen in the table above) appears on the status screen of Shiny Pokémon in most games. In Generation II, this icon appears in the top-right corner of the screen, by the gender symbol, while in most other games, it appears in or near one of the corners of the Pokémon's image; however, Pokémon Ruby, Sapphire, and Emerald do not have any icon. In Generation III, the Pokémon's Pokédex number will be colored gold instead of white and the background of the Pokémon's image has a lighter shade; likewise, in Generation IV and V, the color of some elements of the status screen differ for Shiny Pokémon.
- #2Pokémon with form differencesselective
Keys: Pokémon with form differences
Some Pokémon have major variations between individuals, known as forms. These variations all have differing appearances and are recognized by the Pokédex. The process of form change allows some Pokémon to change between their different forms, such as with Castform, while other Pokémon have forms that they cannot change between, such as Unown. Other types of form differences include gender differences, regional forms, Mega Evolutions, and Gigantamax forms. Form differences were introduced in Generation II, in which Unown was the only Pokémon to have them. All subsequent generations have introduced multiple Pokémon with form differences. Pokémon able to change between their forms were first introduced in Generation III. At times, these differences are purely cosmetic and have no bearing on the Pokémon's attributes besides its appearance; however, several Pokémon differ in stats, type, Ability, moves they can learn, etc., depending on their form. Among these are several Legendary and Mythical Pokémon, whose alternate forms are usually named using the French word "Forme" instead.
- #3Cosplay Pikachuselective
Keys: Cosplay Pikachu
Cosplay Pikachu is the base form of a group of six interchangeable forms exclusive to Pokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire. It is a female Pikachu who has a black, heart-shaped mark at the end of its tail, obtained from a Pokémon Breeder after the player takes part in their first Pokémon Contest Spectacular. Cosplay Pikachu can change forms by dressing up in different costumes corresponding to each of the five contest conditions (Coolness, Beauty, Cuteness, Cleverness, and Toughness); each form also automatically learns a move that Pikachu otherwise could not learn. Cosplay Pikachu can change or remove its costume at any Contest Hall, forgetting the move it learned with the last costume (if it still knows it) and learning the move from the new costume (if applicable). If Cosplay Pikachu removes its costume while the only move it knows is the move tied to its costume, it learns Thunder Shock. Unlike other Pikachu, Cosplay Pikachu cannot evolve or breed. It also cannot be traded via the GTS or Wonder Trade. Additionally, as it is not present in any games besides Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire, Cosplay Pikachu cannot be deposited into Pokémon Bank, and it does not register as a separate form in Pokémon Bank's Pokédex, despite it registering separately in the Pokédex of Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire.

- #9Pikachu in a capselective
Keys: Pikachu in a cap
Pikachu in a cap Pikachu in a cap are eight event-exclusive, non-interchangeable forms of Pikachu that debuted in Pokémon Sun and Moon. Like Ash's Pikachu, these Pikachu are always male, and they cannot evolve or breed. They are also able to use the event-exclusive Z-Crystal Pikashunium Z and its corresponding Z-Move 10,000,000 Volt Thunderbolt. Their cries differ from that of regular Pikachu. They are not present in Pokémon: Let's Go, Pikachu! and Let's Go, Eevee!, Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl, or Pokémon Legends: Arceus. Six variants exist in Pokémon Sun and Moon, one for each of Ash's hats from the original series to Pokémon the Series: Sun & Moon. A seventh variant debuted in Pokémon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon, wearing the Partner Cap, Ash's hat from Pokémon the Movie: I Choose You!. An eighth variant debuted in the Version 1.2.0 update of Pokémon Sword and Shield, wearing the World Cap, Ash's hat from Pokémon Journeys: The Series. The original six Pikachu in a cap were distributed via serial codes in Pokémon Sun and Moon in celebration of the 20th Pokémon movie, and by extension, the 20th anniversary of Pokémon the Series. Partner Cap Pikachu was distributed in Pokémon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon via a QR Code that can be scanned. All eight Pikachu in a cap (including World Cap Pikachu) were distributed via serial codes in Pokémon Sword and Shield to commemorate the TV show's timeslot change to Fridays in Japan; uniquely, the Pikachu from this distribution can learn Volt Tackle from the Move Reminder. - #10Partner Pikachuselective
Keys: Partner Pikachu
The partner Pikachu has a separate internal index from standard Pikachu. This allows it to have higher base stats than wild Pikachu. The partner Pikachu is not differentiated from standard Pikachu in Pokémon: Let's Go, Pikachu! and Let's Go, Eevee!'s Pokédex, and it cannot be transferred out of the games.
- #11Spiky-eared Pichuselective
Keys: Spiky-eared Pichu
Spiky-eared Pichu is a unique form of Pichu exclusive to Pokémon HeartGold and SoulSilver. It is a female Pichu that has a tuft of hair on the end of its left ear. It cannot evolve, and its Pokéathlon performance stats differ from those of a normal Pichu. Spiky-eared Pichu is obtained by activating an in-game event in Ilex Forest. This is the only way to obtain Spiky-eared Pichu, and it cannot be traded, so only one can be obtained per game. It also cannot be transferred to the Generation V games.
- #12Unownselective
Keys: Unown
Unown has 28 non-interchangeable forms, each corresponding to a typographic character. All Unown forms are known as "One form", as seen in the Pokédex. Unown was the first Pokémon to have multiple forms in the games. In its debut in Generation II, there were 26 forms of Unown, corresponding to each of the 26 letters of the Latin alphabet. In the Generation III games, Unown gained two additional forms, corresponding to the question mark and exclamation mark. In the Generation II games, Unown's form is determined by its IVs, which results in some strange phenomena; for example, in Generation II, only Unown I and V can be Shiny due to Shininess also being determined by IVs in these games. In the Generation III games, Unown's form is determined by its personality value. From the Generation IV games onward, Unown's form is determined by a separate form identifier, unrelated to the personality value. While Unown's form has no bearing on base stats, punctuation Unown have different performance stats than alphabetical Unown. Various games have special catalogs for documenting Unown's forms: in Pokémon Gold, Silver, and Crystal, the Unown Mode is an upgrade to the Pokédex obtained at the Ruins of Alph; in Pokémon HeartGold and SoulSilver, the Unown Report is obtainable instead. In Pokémon Legends: Arceus, the Unown Research Notes serves this purpose.
- #13Castformselective
Keys: Castform
Castform has four interchangeable forms, which it switches between based on the weather in battles and Contests, due to its Ability Forecast. Each of its forms has a different type to match the weather. Castform was the first Pokémon to have interchangeable forms. By default, Castform is in its Normal form and is Normal-type. It is always in this form outside of battles and contests. It begins battles in this form and reverts to this form if withdrawn. It has this form in any weather that does not trigger another form, or if the weather has its effects negated by an active Ability. In harsh sunlight, Forecast changes Castform into its Sunny Form, which is Fire-type. In rain, Forecast changes Castform into its Rainy Form, which is Water-type. In hail, Forecast changes Castform into its Snowy Form, which is Ice-type. In Generations III and IV, if Forecast is suppressed or replaced, Castform will remain in its current form (regardless of the weather). From Generation V onward, if Forecast is suppressed or replaced, Castform will revert to its Normal form (regardless of the weather). Castform's Weather Ball will usually receive STAB in any of its forms, except in a sandstorm, under Shadow Sky, or if it loses Forecast. Castform's forms cannot be viewed in the forms section of the Pokémon Diamond, Pearl, and Platinum Pokédex, nor do they appear on the field in HeartGold and SoulSilver. All of Castform's forms will appear in the forms section of the HeartGold and SoulSilver Pokédex upon obtaining one, even if it never transformed. Prior to Generation VIII, unlike most Pokémon with form differences, Castform's alternate forms had no Shiny variations of their own, so only the Normal form of a Shiny Castform would look different. Its Shiny forms were first seen in Pokémon HOME; they first became directly obtainable in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl. Normal form Type: Normal Abilities: Forecast Sunny Form Type: Fire Abilities: Forecast Rainy Form Type: Water Abilities: Forecast Snowy Form Type: Ice Abilities: Forecast
- #14Deoxysselective
Keys: Deoxys
Deoxys has four different forms which it can switch between. It was the first Pokémon whose base stats and moves it could learn differed depending on its form. In Generation III, Deoxys's forms are game-specific, such that it will always be in one particular form while in the player's possession (although it will always be in Normal Forme in the wild). Its form can only be changed by trading it to a different game. In Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire, Pokémon Colosseum, and Pokémon XD: Gale of Darkness, it will be in its Normal Forme. In Pokémon FireRed, it will be in its Attack Forme. In Pokémon LeafGreen, it will be in its Defense Forme. In Pokémon Emerald, it will be in its Speed Forme. From Generation IV to Generation VIII, the player can change its form by interacting with certain meteorites while it is in the party: in Pokémon Diamond, Pearl, Platinum, Brilliant Diamond, and Shining Pearl, using meteorites outside in Veilstone City; in Pokémon HeartGold and SoulSilver, using meteorites outside on Route 3; in Pokémon Black, White, Black 2, and White 2, using the meteorite in Nacrene Museum in Nacrene City; in Pokémon X and Y, using meteorites in the Fossil Lab in Ambrette Town; in Pokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire, using the meteorite in Professor Cozmo's house in Fallarbor Town; and in Pokémon Sun, Moon, Ultra Sun, and Ultra Moon, using the meteorite next to Sophocles in Hokulani Observatory on Mount Hokulani. In Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, the player can win a Meteorite from an auction at the Porto Marinada Market if they own a Deoxys. When used, the Meteorite will cycle Deoxys to its next form in the order of Normal Forme, Attack Forme, Defense Forme, Speed Forme.
- #15Burmyselective
Keys: Burmy
Burmy has three separate forms: Plant Cloak, Sandy Cloak, and Trash Cloak. Burmy can change forms freely, changing its cloak depending on the environment in which it last participated in a battle (so Exp. Share alone will not change its form). When a Burmy evolves into Wormadam, it retains its cloak. Apart from breeding and Evolution, Burmy's cloak is purely cosmetic. Bred Burmy will have the same cloak as the mother, will be in the same cloak as a Burmy or Wormadam bred with Ditto, or will be in Plant Cloak if bred from a Mothim and a Ditto. If a Burmy last battled outside or in tall grass, it changes into its Plant Cloak. In Pokémon Legends: Arceus, it will change into this form in Jubilife Village and the Obsidian Fieldlands. If female, Plant Cloak Burmy will evolve into Plant Cloak Wormadam, which is a Bug/Grass Pokémon. This cloak is composed of leaves and twigs. If a Burmy last battled in a cave or on a beach, it changes into its Sandy Cloak. In Generation IV, it will also change into this form after battling in an area with a snow storm. In Pokémon HeartGold and SoulSilver, Burmy will change into this form after battling inside the Bell Tower, the Burned Tower, or Sprout Tower, due to the towers all being internally classified as caves. In Pokémon Legends: Arceus, it will change into this form in the Crimson Mirelands or the Coronet Highlands. If female, Sandy Cloak Burmy will evolve into Sandy Cloak Wormadam, which is a Bug/Ground Pokémon. This cloak is composed of sand and rocks. If a Burmy last battled in a building, it changes into its Trash Cloak. In Pokémon Legends: Arceus, it will change into this form in the Cobalt Coastlands and the Alabaster Icelands. If female, Trash Cloak Burmy will evolve into Trash Cloak Wormadam, which is a Bug/Steel Pokémon. This cloak is composed of pink insulation.
- #16Wormadamselective
Keys: Wormadam
Wormadam has three non-interchangeable forms: Plant Cloak, Sandy Cloak, and Trash Cloak. When a Burmy evolves into Wormadam, it retains its cloak. The different cloaks of Wormadam have different types, base stats, and moves they can learn. Plant Cloak Type: Bug,Grass Abilities: Anticipation,Overcoat Sandy Cloak Anticipation,Overcoat Trash Cloak Type: Bug,Steel Abilities: Anticipation,Overcoat
- #17Cherrimselective
Keys: Cherrim
Cherrim changes forms depending on the weather in battle and Contests. During harsh sunlight (and without an active Ability nullifying the weather), it changes into Sunshine Form; otherwise, it will be in its Overcast Form. Due to its Ability Flower Gift, its Attack and Special Defense increase in its Sunshine Form. Outside of battles and contests, it will always be in Overcast Form. In Generation IV, Cherrim changes forms independently of its Ability. Starting in Generation V, it is Cherrim's Ability that changes its form, except in Pokémon Legends: Arceus, in which Cherrim's form and stats change without Flower Gift due to the game's lack of Abilities. In Legends: Arceus, Cherrim will change form (in battle only) if the overworld weather is sunny or harsh sunlight, and if the in-game time is either morning, daytime, or evening (both conditions must be met). In Japanese, the names of Cherrim's forms use 「フォルム」 form, the term otherwise primarily used in the names of forms localized as Forme in English.
- #18Shellosselective
Keys: Shellos
Shellos has two different forms: West Sea Shellos and East Sea Shellos. In most cases, where it is encountered in the wild determines its form. This is purely a cosmetic difference, and this Pokémon cannot change between forms. West Sea Shellos is pink and white in color, whereas East Sea Shellos is blue and green in color. There is also a slight difference in shape depending on the form. In Sinnoh and Hisui, West Sea Shellos is encountered west of Mount Coronet, while East Sea Shellos is encountered east of Mount Coronet. In Paldea, West Sea Shellos is encountered in West Province (Area Two), while East Sea Shellos is encountered in East Province (Area One) and South Province (Area Five); both forms can also be found in Tera Raid Battles regardless of location. In other regions, only one form appears in the wild per game (with the other only obtainable via trading or transfer): in Pokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire, Shellos appears as a hidden Pokémon, with West Sea appearing in Omega Ruby and East Sea appearing in Alpha Sapphire; and in Alola and Galar, only East Sea Shellos appears in the wild. Bred Shellos are always the same form as their mother, or the same form as the Shellos or Gastrodon parent if bred with Ditto.
- #19Gastrodonselective
Keys: Gastrodon
Gastrodon has two different forms: West Sea Gastrodon and East Sea Gastrodon. In most cases, where it is encountered in the wild determines its form. This is purely a cosmetic difference, and this Pokémon cannot change between forms. West Sea Gastrodon is pink and brown in color, whereas East Sea Gastrodon is blue and green. There is also a slight difference in shape depending on the form. In Sinnoh and Hisui, West Sea Gastrodon is encountered west of Mount Coronet, while East Sea Gastrodon is encountered east of Mount Coronet. In Paldea, West Sea Gastrodon is encountered in Casseroya Lake, while East Sea Gastrodon is encountered in North Province (Area One); both forms can also be found in Tera Raid Battles regardless of location. In other regions, only one form appears in the wild per game (with the other only obtainable via trading or transfer): Gastrodon only appears in its West Sea form in Kalos's Friend Safari, and in Alola and Galar, only East Sea Gastrodon appear in the wild.
- #20Rotomselective
Keys: Rotom
Rotom has five alternate forms it can change between, in addition to its default form. Heat Rotom, which has possessed a microwave oven, knows Overheat, and is Electric/Fire. Wash Rotom, which has possessed a washing machine, knows Hydro Pump, and is Electric/Water. Frost Rotom, which has possessed a refrigerator, knows Blizzard, and is Electric/Ice. Fan Rotom, which has possessed an electric fan, knows Air Slash, and is Electric/Flying. - #21Dialgaselective
Keys: Dialga
Along with the other members of the Pokémon of Myth, Dialga has the ability to switch to a second form: Origin Forme. dard form of Dialga debuted in Pokémon Diamond and Pearl, and its Origin Forme was introduced in Pokémon Legends: Arceus, in which it changes between its standard form and Origin Forme when exposed to an Adamant Crystal. In Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, Dialga transforms into its Origin Forme while holding an Adamant Crystal. If it is deposited in Pokémon HOME, it will revert to its standard form. The forms differ in their base stats: Dialga's Origin Forme has decreased Attack and increased Special Defense compared to its standard form, though its base stat total is the same. In Pokémon Legends: Arceus, its signature move, Roar of Time, has modified base power and accuracy when used by its Origin Form, as well as a unique animation.
- #22Primal Kyogreselective
Keys: Primal Kyogre
Primal Kyogre is an additional form for Kyogre that is the result of undergoing Primal Reversion. If Kyogre is sent into battle while holding a Blue Orb, it will change into Primal Kyogre; it only loses its form when the battle ends. Primal Kyogre is only available in Pokémon Omega Ruby, Alpha Sapphire, Sun, Moon, Ultra Sun, and Ultra Moon. It was removed in Generation VIII along with Mega Evolution. Primal Kyogre differs from Kyogre in its base stats, Ability, and cry. Type: Water Abilities: Primordial Sea
- #23Primal Groudonselective

If Groudon is sent into battle while holding a Red Orb, it will change into Primal Groudon; it only loses its form when the battle ends. Primal Groudon is only available in Pokémon Omega Ruby, Alpha Sapphire, Sun, Moon, Ultra Sun, and Ultra Moon. It was removed in Generation VIII along with Mega Evolution. Primal Groudon differs from Groudon in its base stats, Ability, cry, and type. Type: Ground,Fire Abilities: Desolate Land
- #24Origin Formeselective
Keys: Origin Forme
The Pokémon of Myth each have two forms, with their secondary form being known as an Origin Forme. Giratina's base form is known as its Altered Forme. Dialga and Palkia can change into their Origin Forme by being given an Adamant Crystal and Lustrous Globe respectively. They have different base stats from their base forms. Giratina can change forms by being given a Griseous Orb (before Pokémon Legends: Arceus), or by being given a Griseous Core (starting in Generation IX). It has different base stats and Ability from Altered Forme Giratina.
- #25Palkiaselective
Keys: Palkia
Along with the other members of the Pokémon of Myth, Palkia has the ability to switch to a second form: Origin Forme. The standard form of Palkia debuted in Diamond and Pearl, and its Origin Forme was introduced in Pokémon Legends: Arceus, in which it changes between its standard form and Origin Forme when exposed to a Lustrous Globe. In Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, Palkia transforms into its Origin Forme while holding a Lustrous Globe. If it is deposited in Pokémon HOME, it will revert to its standard form. The forms differ in their base stats: Palkia's Origin Forme has decreased Attack and increased Speed compared to its standard form, though its base stat total is the same. In Pokémon Legends: Arceus, its signature move, Spacial Rend, has modified base power and accuracy when used by its Origin Form, as well as a unique animation.
- #26Giratinaselective
Keys: Giratina
Along with the other members of the Pokémon of Myth, Giratina has the ability to switch to a second form: Origin Forme. However, Giratina is unique in that its standard form is called Altered Forme. Giratina's Altered Forme debuted in Pokémon Diamond and Pearl, while its Origin Forme was introduced in Pokémon Platinum. From Platinum to Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl, it transforms into its Origin Forme while holding a Griseous Orb. In Platinum, it also transforms into its Origin Forme while in the Distortion World. In Pokémon Legends: Arceus, it changes between its forms when exposed to a Griseous Core. In Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, Giratina transforms into its Origin Forme while holding a Griseous Core. If it is deposited in Pokémon HOME, it will revert to its Altered Forme. The forms differ in their base stats: Giratina's Origin Forme has its Defense and Special Defense switched with its Attack and Special Attack (its base stat total is unchanged). In Legends: Arceus, its signature move, Shadow Force, has modified base power and accuracy when used by its Origin Forme, as well as a unique animation.
- #27Shayminselective
Keys: Shaymin
Shaymin can change into its Sky Forme by being exposed to a Gracidea. It has different base stats, Ability, cry, level-up moveset, and type from Land Forme Shaymin. Shaymin has two forms it can change between: Land Forme, introduced in Pokémon Diamond and Pearl, and Sky Forme, introduced in Pokémon Platinum. Normally, Shaymin is in its Land Forme, which is Grass-type and resembles a hedgehog. When exposed to a Gracidea, Shaymin transforms into its Sky Forme, which is Grass/Flying-type and white in color. Sky Forme Shaymin will revert into and remain in its Land Forme at night or if it is frozen; Shaymin also changes back to Land Forme when deposited in the PC (prior to Generation VII), when withdrawn from the PC (Generation VII onward), when deposited in Pokémon Bank (but not Pokémon HOME), or when deposited in the Pokémon Day Care or Pokémon Nursery. If a frozen Shaymin in Sky Forme is holding a Lum Berry or an Aspear Berry, it will eat the Berry after transforming back to Land Forme. In Pokémon Legends: Arceus, Sky Forme Shaymin will also revert to Land Forme when exposed to a Gracidea again, and will not revert into its Land Forme at night unless it enters a battle during the night. Frostbite will also cause it to revert to Land Forme. In Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, Sky Forme Shaymin will not revert into its Land Forme at night until after a battle. In Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Sky, Shaymin becomes Sky Forme temporarily when the Gracidea item is used. The Gracidea can be obtained for free daily from a Shaymin in the Shaymin Village. In Super Mystery Dungeon, Shaymin's Forme can be selected manually before entering a dungeon. In Explorers of Sky, Sky Forme Shaymin has boosted action speed. In Super Mystery Dungeon, Sky Forme merely affects its type. The two forms have different base stats, Abilities, types, moves they can learn, and cries. In Generation IV, Sky Forme Shaymin's cry cannot be played in the Pokédex, due to it only registering the first form encountered. As wild or traded Shaymin will be in Land Forme and Pokémon aren't registered in link battles, it is impossible to register a Sky Forme Shaymin. The only cry used for Shaymin in Pokémon Ranger: Guardian Signs is the one of its Land Forme. Land Forme Type: Grass Abilities: Natural Cure Sky Forme Type: Grass,Flying Abilities: Serene Grace
- #28Arceusselective
Keys: Arceus
Arceus has multiple different forms that it switches between with its Ability Multitype, with each of its forms having a different type. In total, it has eighteen different forms, one for each type. Though most of its forms were introduced in Generation IV, its Fairy-type form was introduced in Generation VI, along with the Fairy type as a whole. By default, Arceus is in its Normal-type form. If it holds (or, in Pokémon Legends: Arceus, is exposed to) a Plate or type-specific Z-Crystal, it changes its form to be the same type as the type the Plate or Z-Crystal corresponds to. In games besides Pokémon Legends: Arceus, Arceus's signature move Judgment is Normal-type by default, but changes to match the type of the Plate that it holds (being unaffected by Z-Crystals). In Legends: Arceus, the type of Judgment is directly determined by Arceus's form, such that its type always matches that of Arceus; additionally, Arceus can change its form during a battle using the Legend Plate. After being exposed to the Legend Plate, it will be in its Normal-type form by default and change its form before using Judgment to have a type advantage over the target, which also changes Judgment's type to match Arceus's. When determining the type that it changes into, any double weaknesses that the target may have are prioritized, followed by a type that resists the target's primary type (prioritizing immunities), then a type that resists the target's secondary type (again prioritizing immunities); if multiple types are equally valid, one of them is chosen at random. Arceus reverts to its Normal-type form when the battle ends. If Arceus is deposited into Pokémon HOME while in any of its alternate forms, it reverts to its Normal-type form; if it is under the effects of the Legend Plate when deposited into HOME, these effects wear off. In addition to its changing type, Arceus's Pokéathlon performance differs depending on its form, and it can only learn Draco Meteor from a Move Tutor while in its Dragon-type form (though it can learn it via TM in any form). In the Generation IV games, there is an unused ???-type Arceus, but it cannot be legitimately obtained in the games, as there is no ???-type Plate. Due to how its Ability would automatically turn any Arceus without a Plate into a Normal-type Pokémon in Generation IV, a ???-type Arceus hacked into the game will be treated as Normal-type. This form was removed in Generation V due to the removal of the ??? type. Prior to Pokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire, Arceus's alternate forms were not registered separately in the Pokédex.
- #29Basculinselective
Keys: Basculin
Basculin has three non-interchangeable forms: Red-Striped Form, Blue-Striped Form, and White-Striped Form. White-Striped Basculin is also considered to be a Hisuian form in some contexts (such as Pokémon HOME and its Pokémon Legends: Arceus Pokédex entry). Basculin cannot change its form. Generally, Red-Striped Form and Blue-Striped Form are either available in opposite games, or one can be found commonly while the other is rarer or only found through specific methods. For example, in Pokémon Black, Red-Striped Basculin can frequently be encountered while surfing or fishing, but Blue-Striped Basculin can only be found in rippling water; and in Pokémon White, the opposite is true. By contrast, in Pokémon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon, Red-Striped Basculin is exclusive to Ultra Sun and Blue-Striped Basculin is exclusive to Ultra Moon. White-Striped Form is only available in Hisui (Pokémon Legends: Arceus) and Kitakami (Pokémon Scarlet and Violet: The Teal Mask). Bred Basculin are the same form as their mother, or the same form as the Basculin parent if bred with Ditto. This includes White-Striped Basculin (who is not treated as a regional form for breeding, which would require it to hold an Everstone to pass down its form). If Basculegion is the mother or is bred with Ditto, the offspring will be White-Striped Basculin. Red-Striped Form Only Red-Striped Basculin can have the Ability Reckless and may hold a Deep Sea Tooth when encountered in the wild. Type: Water Abilities: Reckless,Adaptability,Mold Breaker Blue-Striped Form Only Blue-Striped Basculin can have the Ability Rock Head and may hold a Deep Sea Scale when encountered in the wild. Type: Water Abilities: Rock Head,Adaptability,Mold Breaker White-Striped Form Only White-Striped Basculin can have the Ability Rattled. They also learn Uproar at level 40 instead of Final Gambit like the other forms and can evolve into Basculegion. Type: Water Abilities: Rattled,Adaptability,Mold Breaker Evolution Conditions: Level up after losing at least 294 HP from recoil damage Evolution: Basculegion
- #30Darmanitanselective
Keys: Darmanitan
If Darmanitan has Zen Mode as its Ability, it changes from Standard Mode into Zen Mode when its HP drops to or below half in battles. It will only be in Zen Mode while in battle. Standard Mode Darmanitan is Fire-type and red in color. Zen Mode Darmanitan is Fire/Psychic-type and blue in color. Galarian Darmanitan is Ice-type and white in color with blue accents, while Galarian Zen Mode Darmanitan is Ice/Fire-type and white in color with red accents. The original two forms have different stats, such that Zen Mode Darmanitan swaps the Attack and Special Attack of Standard Mode, and has higher defenses but lower Speed. On the other hand, Galarian Darmanitan, in its Zen Mode, simply has increased Attack and Speed compared to its Standard Mode. Darmanitan Standard Mode Type: Fire Abilities: Zen Mode Zen Mode Type: Fire,Psychic Abilities: Zen Mode Galarian Darmanitan Type: Ice, Abilities: Zen Mode Zen Mode Type: Ice,Fire Abilities: Zen Mode
- #31Deerlingselective
Keys: Deerling
Deerling has four different forms based on the four seasons. These forms are interchangeable in Generation V and Generation IX but not in other games. They are purely cosmetic. Generation V In Pokémon Black, White, Black 2, and White 2, Deerling will change its form to match the current season if it is in the party when the season changes. By using the DNA Splicers, and through a process known as Absofusion, the Pokémon to break the frozen ice on its wings and reveal its gray tendril-like appendages before fusing with either Reshiram or Zekrom. Kyurem, in addition to its standard form, has two other forms: White Kyurem and Black Kyurem. They are the game mascots of Pokémon Black 2 and White 2, which they were introduced in. Kyurem changes its form through the use of the DNA Splicers, which fuses it with Reshiram or Zekrom. The combination retains Kyurem's attributes, such as its level, Poké Ball, held item, game of origin, personality value, IVs, EVs, nickname, OT, Trainer ID number, secret ID number, met location, Pokérus, and so on. This fusion can be reversed by using the DNA Splicers again, with Reshiram or Zekrom remaining unaltered from before being fused, including whatever item it may have been holding. - #41Ash-Greninjaselective
Keys: Ash-Greninja
In the XY&Z arc of Pokémon the Series: XY, Ash's Greninja gained the ability to transform into a stronger form known as "Ash-Greninja" through an occurrence referred to as the Bond Phenomenon. This form was introduced to the core series games in Pokémon Sun and Moon. In the Generation VII games, a Greninja with the Ability Battle Bond will transform into Ash-Greninja after it directly causes an opponent to faint without ending the battle. It will remain in this form until either it faints or the battle ends; in the former case, this prevents it from changing back into Ash-Greninja for the remainder of the battle. Ash-Greninja has different base stats than regular Greninja, with increased Attack, Special Attack, and Speed. Additionally, the move Water Shuriken will be more powerful, having 20 power instead of 15, and will always hit 3 times, instead of varying between 2-5 hits. Ash-Greninja is not possible to obtain in the core series as of Pokémon Scarlet and Violet due to Battle Bond having its effect changed. Internally, standard Greninja with Battle Bond are considered to be a separate form to Greninja with Torrent or Protean. These Greninja are always male, cannot breed, and, like Special Pokémon, are banned from the Battle Spot. A Greninja with Battle Bond can be transferred to Pokémon Sun and Moon from the Special Demo Version. This is the only way to obtain it, so it is no longer obtainable for players who did not download the demo before the discontinuation of the 3DS Nintendo eShop on March 27, 2023. Type: Water,Dark Abilities: Battle Bond
- #42Vivillonselective
Keys: Vivillon
Vivillon has 20 distinct forms, each having different patterns on its wings. Scatterbug and Spewpa have the pattern of Vivillon that they will evolve into already set when the Pokémon is generated; for Eggs, this means the game in which the Egg was created, regardless of parents. This form cannot be changed. In Generation VI and Generation VII, its pattern depends on which geographic location the user specified on the Nintendo 3DS at the time the save file was created. This affects all Vivillon encountered within the game and can only be changed later by deleting the save file and creating a new one. Due to region locking, a Nintendo 3DS system can only pick from a certain subset of geographic locations, depending on which region the system is from. For a comprehensive list, see List of Nintendo 3DS country and region settings. In Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, all wild Vivillon will have the Fancy Pattern by default (though other patterns are used by some NPCs). However, transferring a Postcard from Pokémon GO using the Mystery Gift feature in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet will change the pattern of all wild Vivillon to match the location the Postcard came from. Wild Scatterbug and Spewpa caught after receiving the Postcard will also evolve into Vivillon matching the Postcard's pattern. Scatterbug and Spewpa caught prior to receiving the Postcard will not evolve with the Postcard's pattern. After 24 hours, the wild Pokémon will revert back to Fancy Pattern unless another Postcard has been used. Changing the time and date of the Nintendo Switch system may end the effect prematurely. An account cannot send more than one Postcard per day, but multiple accounts can be linked each day and can each send a Postcard. A Pokémon Scarlet and Violet save file may not receive the same Postcard more than once. All hatched Scatterbug will evolve into the Fancy Pattern regardless of Postcard effects. Using the Union Circle feature, players are able to see and catch wild Vivillon from other players' games, allowing them to catch various patterns of Vivillon regardless of whether they own a matching Postcard. Additionally, if the Scatterbug or Spewpa came from another game like Pokémon GO, it will retain the pattern it was assigned in its original game. 18 of the patterns correspond to certain regions, while the other two do not. The regions corresponding to each pattern differ somewhat between the Nintendo 3DS and Pokémon GO.

In Generation VII, all forms of the Flabébé evolutionary line can have their Hidden Ability, though the Blue Flower forms cannot be caught with it and must be transferred with it from a prior game in order to have it. In Pokémon GO, the various forms of Flabébé, and by extension their evolutionary forms, have varied appearances depending on which region the game is at: Yellow Flabébé is found in the Americas, while Red Flabébé is found in Asia-Pacific regions and Blue Flabébé is found in Europe, Africa, and the Middle-East. The Orange and White versions are technically found everywhere, but are considered rare spawns.

- #46Eternal Flower Floetteselective
Keys: Eternal Flower Floette
Eternal Flower Floette is a unique Floette that AZ befriended 3,000 years ago, appearing in the story of Pokémon X and Y and Pokémon Legends: Z-A. The flower she wields has a different design than normal, resembling the structure of the ancient ultimate weapon constructed by AZ; the form also has a blue, red, and white color scheme instead of green, yellow, and white. The Generation VI and VII games include unused data for this Floette as a usable form, but she is unobtainable. Unlike the other forms, she cannot evolve or breed, does not have the Hidden Ability Symbiosis, and can learn the otherwise unused move Light of Ruin at level 50, being the only Pokémon able to do so. Additionally, all of her base stats are greater than those of a regular Floette.
- #47Furfrouselective
Keys: Furfrou
Furfrou has ten different forms. It is in its Natural Form by default and can be groomed into one of nine different trims: Heart Trim, Star Trim, Diamond Trim, Debutante Trim, Matron Trim, Dandy Trim, La Reine Trim, Kabuki Trim, and Pharaoh Trim. It will remain with one of these trims for five days after being groomed, after which it will revert back to its Natural Form. Furfrou will also lose its trim when it is deposited in a Box (in Generation VI), withdrawn from a Box (in Generation VII), deposited in Pokémon Bank, or deposited in the Pokémon Day Care or Pokémon Nursery. However, it is possible to deposit trimmed Furfrou in Pokémon HOME by transfering it from Pokémon GO via the GO Transporter. The location at which Furfrou can be groomed differs between games: In Pokémon X and Y, Furfrou can be groomed at Friseur Furfrou on Vernal Avenue in Lumiose City for $500. The player gains access to more trims as they become more stylish. In Pokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire, Furfrou can be groomed at the Pokémon Fan Club in Slateport City for $500. In Pokémon Sun, Moon, Ultra Sun, and Ultra Moon, Furfrou can be groomed for $500 by a Punk Girl at Malie City's salon or, in Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon, a Beauty at Hau'oli City's salon. In Pokémon X and Y only, Furfrou's trims are not registered in the Pokédex.
- #48gender differencesselective
Keys: gender differences
Although most Pokémon look identical regardless of gender, some species have differences in appearance due to gender, with noticeable differences between the males and females. Gender differences were introduced in Generation IV. These differences are a reference to sexual dimorphism, which is commonly seen in many real organisms and may offer some clues to their biology and behavior. Generation IV, in addition to introducing new Pokémon with gender differences, also modified several older Pokémon to have gender differences. In most cases, the male version retained the original design while the female was altered. However, the inverse is true for Dodrio, Meganium, Xatu, Aipom, Quagsire, Torchic, Beautifly, Ludicolo, Meditite, Medicham, and Milotic. These Pokémon, as well as Bidoof, Bibarel, Combee, Ambipom, Gible, Gabite, and Garchomp, use their female designs for their official artwork, while other Pokémon with gender differences introduced in the first four generations use the male designs. Noticeably, the Buizel evolutionary line does not show their backs in the official artwork; however, based on Buizel’s debut in the ninth movie, the designs used in the artwork are likely those of the male variants (at least in Buizel’s case). Later generations would introduce far fewer Pokémon with gender differences, but those that were introduced differ much more drastically in appearance and have separate official artwork for each gender. Starting in Generation VI, some Pokémon even have different Abilities, base stats, and/or moves they can learn depending on their gender. Starting in Generation IV, certain Pokémon's Evolution is also affected by their gender. Burmy evolves into Wormadam if it is female or Mothim if it is male. Only female Combee and Salandit can evolve into Vespiquen and Salazzle, respectively, with the males unable to evolve at all. Only male Kirlia can evolve into Gallade, though either gender can evolve into Gardevoir; similarly, only female Snorunt can evolve into Froslass, though either gender can evolve into Glalie. However, Combee is the only one of these Pokémon to have a visual gender difference. In Pokémon Diamond, Pearl, and Platinum, in the gate to Canalave City, Professor Rowan's assistant upgrades the player's Pokédex to be able to display form differences, including gender differences. In later games, they are displayed from the start.
- #49Aegislashselective
Keys: Aegislash
Aegislash, due to its Ability Stance Change, can change forms in battle depending on the moves it uses. It starts battles in its Shield Forme; using a damaging move will change it to Blade Forme, and using King's Shield will change it back into Shield Forme (both form changes take place immediately before the move is used). It reverts to Shield Forme when switched out. Outside of battle, it is always in Shield Forme. The two forms have different base stats, with Shield Forme Aegislash having high Defense and Special Defense and Blade Forme Aegislash having high Attack and Special Attack.
- #50Pumpkabooselective
Keys: Pumpkaboo
Pumpkaboo have four different forms, each named after their respective size: Small Size, Average Size, Large Size, and Super Size. Its size is maintained through Evolution into Gourgeist and cannot be changed. Larger sizes of Pumpkaboo are rarer to encounter in the wild. Bred Pumpkaboo are the same size as their mother, or the same size as the Pumpkaboo or Gourgeist parent if bred with Ditto. In the wild, Super Size Pumpkaboo will always hold a Miracle Seed, whereas other sizes will never hold an item in the wild. Super Size variants have different, lower-pitched cries than the other forms, and were also the only Pokémon to have the XXL size designation in Pokémon GO prior to the addition of XXL and XXS sizes for all species. The different sizes of Pumpkaboo do not use different menu sprites, except in Pokémon HOME. Previously, only Average Size and Super Size Pumpkaboo could have their Hidden Ability Insomnia. Average Size can be obtained with its Hidden Ability from the Friend Safari, and Super Size could be obtained with its Hidden Ability from events. Since Version 1.2.0 of Pokémon Sword and Shield, all sizes can be obtained with their Hidden Abilities via Ability Patches. Each form has different base stats. With each increase in size, Pumpkaboo's base HP stat increases by 5 points, while its base Speed stat decreases by 5 points. Consequently, its base stat total does not vary with size.
