“Sorry about that Wooloo knocking you over,” He apologized, his eyes moving over them, checking again for damages, “Guess I should have put up a warnin’ sign about ‘em around here.”

“Say something like that again,” he said softly, almost conversationally, “and I won’t be so polite about correctin’ you next time.”

The promise lingered between them, thick and electric. For a long moment, the only sounds were the breeze through the grass and the steady rhythm of Milo’s breathing. His body radiated patience, the kind built from years of working the fields, wrangling stubborn Pokémon, and carrying more responsibility than most people ever noticed.

Then, slowly, the sharp edge of his intensity eased. He didn’t step back right away. His hand lingered at their waist, the other sliding down to rest lightly against the side of their jaw, thumb stroking once, almost soothingly.

Only when he was certain they were steady did he ease away, putting a single step of space between them, pulling them up on their feet before his hands dropped. The distance felt meaningless now—like he could close it again in an instant if he chose.

Milo exhaled through his nose, the easy farm-boy smile returning to his lips, though it didn’t quite reach his eyes. “Best behave yourself, yea?”
